  1. I don't think people are realizing what a good deal the xbox-gift card combo is. The only significant difference between the xbox arcade and the Elite consoles is the size of the hard drive. From what I've heard, it's not that difficult to replace the hard drive in an xbox. You can buy a hard drive on ebay or just roll the gift card into a top-of-the-line 120GB hard drive on Wal-mart online for $134.96 http://www.walmart.com/120Gb-Xbox-360-Hard-Drive/ip/5751091 Both the Elite console and the Arcade have an HDMI output. Microsoft is constantly releasing new chips to help with xbox overheating issues, but you cannot rely on a higher-priced model to have a better chip. In fact, I have heard that the Arcades are more likely to be up-to-date because the stores sell more of them and get supplies in more quickly. Xboxes are rarely discounted and I would be shocked if you found a comparable deal anywhere else. If I didn't already own an xbox I would be all over this deal.
  2. Most places will have their sale prices tomorrow also. Check the fine print on CompUSA, OfficeMax, Radioshack. All had it for $99. If those are out, there should be tons of Zunes on ebay. Woot.com had a sale recently and lots of people bought them to resell. Also, I think I've seen it advertised at buy.com? I bought one a while back and didn't like it but my husband loves it. These zunes are first generation but you can update the firmware to the second generation firmware for free.
  3. Ok, so I'd love to take advantage of the Sears Black Friday doorbusters online. But it seems like the details are pretty sketchy. Does anybody know the answers to the following: Will there be a coupon code of some sort for the $10 off $50? Or will it just automatically subtract it from your cart? Do you have to pick-up at the store, or will they ship this stuff to you? If so, are we talking free shipping or whatever they would normally charge? Free shipping would be awesome so I bet they aren't offering it.
  4. I would strongly caution anybody planning to price-match or price-adjust to talk to the manager of their local store beforehand. In general price-matching policies vary widely and even if there is a corporate policy it may be difficult to get a specific manager to honor it. Also, the Navigon at Staples is a 2100T and the Radioshack one is 2100. While this may mean absolutely nothing except different packaging, it's enough for a store to legitimately deny a pricematch.
  5. I'm having real problems deciding on a text-to-voice model. The cheapest are Garmin StreetPilot c340 at $199 @CC, the mysterious Invion 3.5" Text To Voice Touchscreen GPS System for $169.88 @ JCPenney, and the Navigon 2100 for $149.99 @ RadioShack. Garmin has the best name recognition but is available for not much over that on Amazon right now, so not that great a BF deal. The Navigon looks like the best deal based on features, but I'm concerned that the reviews of the Navigon are all based on the specs. Ok, fine, but how does it work? Amazon reviews of the other Navigon models have a fairly high proportion of negatives and many people seem to believe that the company hasn't worked out all the kinks yet. I'd hate to buy the Navigon, find it doesn't work well, and then have no chance to get another deal. Anybody know what the return policies are on GPS units? I'm considering buying several, testing them, and returning the ones I don't like. Would I be looking at a restocking fee?
  6. This guy has some detailed reviews and in this article promises to update his picks on the GPS units available on Black Friday. Will be very helpful if he follows up on this. He seems to be updating fairly well. I have no idea what to look for in a GPS unit so perhaps this resource will help: http://www.gpslodge.com/archives/014211.php Might check out the home page also: http://www.gpslodge.com/
  7. I made Kohl's my first stop last Black Friday. I had a Kohl's card and a 15% off coupon you could use in addition to the doorbusters. I had myself added as an authorized user to my husband's card a few days before. Customer service said I was good to go. But when I got to the register to use the card for the first time it flagged me and they had to call in my information. It took 20 minutes to check out. I was not happy, the people behind me were not happy and the cashier was not happy. But if you pay with cash, no 15% off. The computer system flags you for all sorts of things. If you make a large purchase the computer makes you call the center so the system can offer you a credit increase. I've been flagged EVERY time I use that darn card and you have to stay at the register while they call your information in. Be prepared that if you get a Kohl's credit card specifically to use at Kohl's for Black Friday, it may be a world of hassle.
  8. I don't find the answer confusing. Basically the rep is saying he can't confirm or deny online availablity of certain things. Some stores will have things not available online, but there may be things available online that are not in a particular store. We can assume that everything listed on the front cover of the ad will not be available online, because it says "offers valid in store only" and "applies to items on front cover only." It would be very surprising if they had those items available online at BF prices. What I think we can surmise from this message is that most of the items not on the front cover of the ad will be available both in-store and online but that they may not be available at BF prices immediately at midnight. The page will be updated in the "early morning hours." So keep checking the item until you see the price drop; then you can buy the item at that price.
  9. We got our 15% off coupon today. Looking at the fine print, it says offer good on any sale, regular, and clearance priced merchandise. It lists the things it doesn't apply to, like gift card purchases, then says, not good "in conjunction with any percent-off discounts, including the Senior Citizen discount." Do you think that means you can't combine it with a sale price expressed as a percentage, say a 20% off sale on jewelry, or do you think it means that you can't combine a 10% off discount with a 15% off discount? I think it's probably the latter but I wanted to make sure.
