I have 3 kids and between them they have 7 teachers..... doesn't leave alot of room for me to spend much...I think I'm doing candles and lotion (not very exciting but doable) what do you get and how much do you spend? Then get the other period teachers small gifts like lapel pins, a small goodie bag with personal care items, or a gc with a small $ amt like a $5 to Starbucks($5 or less). I have many teachers in the family and because they receive so much they "regift" the majority. This way if you give it to the school or to a local charity that would be appropriate maybe they'd find that more thoughtful and it would cost you less than even individual candles. The absolute best gift a teacher can receive is gift certificates to anywhere. We eat, shop, and watch movies just like the rest of you. But most of all we spend our money on the children when the state wont pay for it. I'm NOT complaining about spending personal money because this is something I like to do when I can. Sometimes that $40 dollars on craft stuff is nothing when I can see the kids excited about making something for mom or dad. Just think of it this way, exactly how many coffee mugs do you think we get a year at Christmas or Teachers Appreciation day and multiply by how many student in all our classes by how many years we've been teaching. It comes up to A LOT:eek: ! Please don't get me wrong I appreciated any momento a child and his/her family gives to me because afterall its the thought that counts. Another idea is to buy a coffee mug (x-mas) from everything is a dollar and put a cone shaped styrofoam and buy peppermints and pin them as you would ornaments on a x-mas tree using a star shaped sucker at the top. I am getting my son's preschool teacher a gift card to the local teacher store and a gc for a dinner at Biaggi's since she does so much to help my son. The Ot's are getting food gifts with something made by my son. I am making caramel toffee popcorn. No way will I be buying gift cards for that many teachers and hopefully their teachers will appreciate whatever I can afford for them and realize that while it would be nice to get a $20 or $25 gc from the kids, that may not be possible for everyone. Tech and have received many gifts, given many gifts and come back to... it is really the entire staff that have some contact with your/our children. So, how about a pointsettia for the office/teachers/copy room for all of us to enjoy? Donuts and coffee from the local donut shop on a Friday morning. A thank you card stating what the children are thankful for. A book donated to the library with thanks to all of them. People who are forgotton about, the bus drivers, library workers, duty monitors (lunch and recess), speech therapists, ot, pt, gym teacher, music teacher, art teacher... sorry Just my long $0.02 worth :) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We've since moved to a very rural area, and there aren't many shopping choices for a gc. Last year, her teacher asked the parents to go in together to buy some nice (expensive) puzzles for the classroom. This year, DS has started Kindergarten, so I will have two teachers to buy for. The best idea some of my parents have organized is to secretly collect a few dollars from each child, and give a "class gift"--If there are 20 kids who give 5 dollars, a nice gift card to a local mall is quite a nice gift, and really appreciated! It's an unused paint can filled with classrom supplies, crayons, pencils, glue etc. I am making a label on my computer to put on the can and a poem is attached to it. dpape Posted October 27, 2006 Share Posted October 27, 2006 My Kindy has 5 teachers (Classroom, Music (2X /wk), Spanish (2X / wk), PE (1X/wk), and Lunch/Recess(everyday)) The 4 female teachers are getting shower gel and lotion (~10 each). The male PE teacher is getting a gift mug set(~5). His main classroom teacher is also getting a gift card to half-priced books (~35). I was at a garage sale of a teacher once and I had never seen so many cups etc. If I can give a gift, I give to the class something they need, or a gift for them like a gc.
