JoannR Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I've been doing BF since 2000 when my daughter was born. This year is the first year I have to go at it alone. I don't know getting up at 3 am and standing in the cold doesn't seem as exciting as it does when you have some other idiot waiting with you...LOL... Anyone else ever go shopping solo with some words of encouragement?? I'm thinking about staying home!!
mitchandalisha Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Don't stay home! I would go by myself (I go with my mom). You will get so many deals and it will kill you to be at home on that day!! It's worth it, I promise!!
shopping mom Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 My daughter and mom have gone with me the last three years, but mom is not in the states and DD may have to work. So I will go solo too. I need the deals. Don't worry there will others out there and you can make a new friend in line
reportermomof3 Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I've been going alone for about 8 or 9 years now. My husband stays at home with the kids while I shop. My MIL, who needs a wheelchair out in public, doesn't go out BF and no other family around. No co-workers or friends go out on BF either. At times I wished I had a co-hort to help with the deals, but most times I do fine on my own. I don't have to wait around for anyone else and can make up a new game plan on the spur of the moment if needed.
NewDoc Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I go shopping alone most every black friday, unless I am visiting family. I have taken friends with me before, but they are usually not into it as much as I am so I would just hear complaining about wanting to go home or some other stuff. That is why I choose to go it alone. It works best for me. ND

Right now they are 6 and 4...LOL.. My Mom lives kinda far to come with me but she says this year she is heading out to see what the bid deal is all about!! But I bet once those ads come out I'll be singing another tune..
Bunniq Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 For the last few years I have gone alone. The earliest I have gone out is 4AM. I talk to friends and family on the phone, and I always meet nice people to chat with in line. I wear a jacket with inside pockets and I don't carry a purse. I have a little alarm thingie on my keyring that I take off and hold in my hand just in case. I like going out alone, because my time is mine, and I don't have to worry about others not wanting to go to certain stores etc. I like to get in and out. I like to know what I am going in for so I limit my time in the store.
biomajor Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I've gone alone for most of the years. For the last 2 years, I took my daughter, but only because there wasn't anything that I needed for her.

starshine Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 This will be my second solo BF. My mom has a bum knee and can't go with me any more. It's not as much fun but I still have a good time watching all the other fools standing in the cold with me.
bayhaysay Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Nope, I always go with my sister. This year my 11 yr. old daughter wants to go.
stationchief Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 The wife has been goin' with me for the past few years. But even if she didn't I'd still brave the lines alone. Some of these deals are definately worth it. Just bring somethin' to do for a few hours if you're gonna be in line a while.
gisellerol Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I always go with a friend but last year she ticked me off some of her other friends came and waited in the car to stay warm while I froze my butt off and she decided to join them and left me there alone and to top it off it was the coldest day of the year and when they were warm they came right back in line I already told her this year I was going alone :yup:
arieslove Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I always go alone, my sisters don't live in town. Dh won't go plus he has to watch the kids LOL.
alimfp Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I've went twice before by myself. I may be going alone this year as well if DH is mandatory for work.
mesarobins Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I go by myself and don't mind it a bit. I always find someone to chat it up with. My dd is 12 this year and I may take her with me, I figure it is time to start breaking her in, but that would only be if my 9 yo dd can spend the night with grandparents.
d56nut Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I've been going alone since the year after the Fruby frenzy. Got my folks to go with me that year and my mom got hit in the head with a bicycle! That was the end of it for them. Hubby refuses to go. He drove me one year and waited in the truck for me. He said "never again". So, I go it alone. My best friend goes shopping on BF and we keep in touch by cell phone. I pick up stuff for her at one store and she gets my stuff at another store. Michelle
dessenma Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I usually start out alone, but my DH usually meets up with me in time for breakfast/lunch.
oldandintheway Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I don't go alone because my DH is as crazy about this as I am, so he always wants to go too.
MDDavis Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Go for it hon. Wish we could go together.
shanni Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I go shopping alone most every black friday, unless I am visiting family. BFQueenofNY Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I did last year and must admit I liked it. Don't get me wrong I like people to talk to, but I got it so streamlined it was great. Usually I get pissed off and annoyed because everyone else takes so long.
cactusmom Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I have always gone alone except for last year. I prefer to be alone. I was worried about getting seperated. Also I would have shopped longer if I had been alone.
ccarson1972 Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I have never gone by myself. This year I will probably be taking my 12 year old and leaving my 15 year old in charge of the 2 little ones at home. I wish that I had someone other than the kids to go with me, but no one else goes.
elena_398 Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Im alone every year. On Thanksgiving too. Im out on BF by midnight and Im fine. I actually like it. Don't have to wait for anyone to check out, etc. I can get in a store, get my stuff, and get out to the next one. Its not bad at all. You'll be fine
able Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 lots go alone...even some who go as teams split up to hit more stores///dotn worry yopu wont be standing ALONE... start a convo with the others in line.
elena_398 Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Thats what I do. Talk to the people around you. Makes the time go quicker and in most times, people around you are alone. You can meet a lot of nice people too
