pogiporkchop Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 The cat in that first photo obviously shares what is, I'm sure, the opinion of a majority of people here on this issue... well, at least it reflects my opinion...
Kanyon71 Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Wow what load of garbage. I guess they are trying to make up for all of the people dropping print editions of news. We usually go out and buy the paper for Black Friday since we stopped delivery a long time ago.
AndreaInNC Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 There was a big stink a while back because our local paper advertises a year's worth of papers .. but then they start deducting for additional fees .. like the extra price for the paper that has all the BF ads, and the papers they give you on holidays, etc. so when they say a year's worth of papers - you actually only get about 48 weeks instead of the 52.
Kash Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 I LOVE having the hard copy with me to flip thru while waiting. I imagine its also handy for those who want price matching done.
julz0420 Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 I don't mind paying Sunday price, or even a little over but I will not be so dumb as to buy a paper the day before for 2.00 (instead of .50) because they claim ads will be in that paper. Did that last year and there was nada. :/
shopping4my3son Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 I still like getting a copy with the ads. We live so far from most shopping that I miss a lot of ads anyway. Some come in the mail and what's not in the paper I have to rely on online ads for.
tjredsox4 Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 I still like to go through the paper ads even though I have already seen them on this site thanks to Brad, the mods and many others that help out in this busy time. I would pay the price of a Sunday paper for the Thanksgiving paper but not the day before because there isn't anything in there around here except for Kmart which has their Thanksgiving day sale on Wednesday here because of blue laws.
riven3d Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Just got my renewal for my paper for Sunday only which includes the holiday editions (Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc) at no additional cost for only $13.01 for 52 weeks. Can't beat that just glad they don't charge us the extra fee
jaymacfla Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Nothing beats the hard copy. We complain when the price gouge sets in, swearing that we will not pay the price increase, yet many of us still cross that line to get the ads in our hands, even though the digital editions are made easier with the advent of the tablets. It is almost as if a tradition is lost if we don't buy at least one or two papers. We are to remind you to check those papers and buy early. Some unscrupulous person may take the circulars and only buy one paper in the process. The paper is still the most popular item on the line. The only problem is that shoppers may not have as much decision making time due to earlier store openings. 2

Can't beat that just glad they don't charge us the extra feeWow!! Our "big" paper is $22 a MONTH! It's everyday. The small local one that comes once a week is $45 per year. Rarely are there any ads in this paper. Maybe Fleet Farm and Walgreens.
Peppermint Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I always check them on gotta deal but there still is something about holding them in your hand and scouring through them after thanksgiving dinner. 1
Reinholt1sMom Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 The article mentioned the Detroit Free Press charging more on Thanksgiving, like this was a "new" thing. Unfortunately, this will be at least the third year they will be charging us $2 for the Thanksgiving paper. It is a big paper though. I guess after 3 years we've all just gotten used to paying more for our paper on Thanksgiving.
rockpzazz Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I don't see what the big deal is paying extra if you get all the inserts if you get the single issue. I would pay Sunday prices if it had them all in there. I understand the fuss if you subscribe and they spring on the extra charges to you though. It won't matter in a few years when Black Friday will be Black Monday and all the ads will be in the Sunday paper anyways. The way it keeps moving up, I bet that will happen by 2020. It's not like Amazon doesn't do it anyways.
mistyinca Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 You know, it would be worth it if they would guarantee that all the ads were there. I get two papers, and there will be mulitples of some and others I can't get my hands on. Ads are all online these days, but having the paper one in your hand is still king.
Kash Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Still cheaper than all the ink and paper and wear and tear to print every page of all of them.
Scott Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 They should just pay Brad and post them here first...
misstaken Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 It's the only time during the year that I actually buy our newspaper. Otherwise, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is a basically a bunch of junk! Just my opinion, of course.
fran Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 I get the paper at the dollar store on thanksgiving.
ytmomof4 Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I normally by this paper I can't remember paying more then the $2 Sunday paper. I love to actually have hard copies in my hand incase I need to price match anything at walmart
love2behappy Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Having the newspaper for black friday ads is a must for me. Even though I like viewing the ads online, I still have to have the newspaper even if it ends up being a little more than the price of the Sunday paper.
ISU ME Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I think I usually pay $3, same as the Sunday paper. But I agree, it's annoying to get 2 papers from the same store and they have different ads in them!
mcwalker Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) I have never been a regular newspaper reader (though I read articles online for free) and Thanksgiving is the only day of the year that I buy a newspaper for the ads, so I understand if they charge a bit more that day than a regular Thursday. Despite the fact that I don't subscribe, I think that newspapers still provide a critical service to society and democracy, so I think of the extra cost as a small contribution to a valuable but struggling business. More to the point though, while I print and carry my personal Shopping List created on GottaDeal to direct me, I also still like to have the printed ads for Black Friday. I generally walk into each store with my printed list and the ad for that store. Edited October 20, 2014 by mcwalker
Nate Dogg Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 I also like to have the ads... for some reason I always see something new in the print edition. 1
