Tessangel Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 I got one for my son and we used it on our trip today and it wouldn't recognize any of his movies except Garfield. I am really pissed and I am taking it back first thing in the morning!! P.S. It kept saying Invalid disc!!!
magickallight Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Were they recorded discs (ones that you copied) or original discs? Just wondering - as I have been thinking of buying a portable player for my son - and want to stear clear of problem players!
laffnatu Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 A friend of mine bought this one for her daughter. I'll have to call her and ask if she had trouble.
davidbugs Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 hAHA very FUNNY only Garfield. i GUESS Garfield Spilled Spaghetti in your Portable Dvd player. Garfield is an evil cat doesn't want to you to watch other dvd movies. sTAY away from Evil Garfield. lol
daz Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 We have a portable player from walmart, never had any problems and use it constantly. Kind of surprising too, since it's a durabrand, didn't think it would last more than 6 months.
fuzzylogic Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 We have a portable player from walmart, never had any problems and use it constantly. Kind of surprising too, since it's a durabrand, didn't think it would last more than 6 months.Which Durabrand? IIRC: The 7" and dual screen players are both made by Venturer (which made the 6.2" player for Black Friday), while the 8.5" and 10" players are made by Initial. Initial tends to be a bit better than Venturer.
Illinoismom Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 My daughter used hers yesterday and she didnt have any problems, I did good this year, Everything seems to be working well ( knocking on wood )
MrsKitty62 Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 I bought the Venturer PVS1262 on Christmas Eve for $79.00 (with 10%off) as my hubby is an employee of the DC. My son ablosutely loves it and screamed "ROAD TRIP" as soon as he saw it. It plays fantastic and has a bigger screen than I thought it would have. We were shocked that the battery pack was already charged.
Tracy72 Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 both my dds are playing fine...one has already used up a charged battery so I have her watching it off the pku now...lol.
laffnatu Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 I called my friend who bought one for her daughter. She said that everything worked fine except for a copied dvd of Polar Express. But it was something that she had trouble on her own dvd player with also.
meo Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 We bought the $149 for two screens Emerson portable dvd player and have been "dually" impressed (sorry...bad joke). Seriously tho, the picture quality and sound are great, and they're so lightweight and completely portable, not like some of the ones I've seen that might as well be laptops
rushins4 Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 My DH bought these for our two boys the day after thanksgiving also. They are junk...we returned them last night because both of them were having problems...One would only recognize 2 out of the 5 DVD's brought for the road trip to grandma's ( yes they were new/original dvd's we do not own any copied ones) and the other would stop and then restart on a whim several times throughout the movie. I am writing to Wal-Mart...how can they sell such junk...thank goodness they were not from Santa...what would you do them...what do you say to a child then? "Well, let me just call Santa and see if he will have an elf make you a new one?" I will let you know what I find out. Brenda
femalesliealot Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 I bought the Dora the Explorer TV/DVD combo set for $99 on BF at Walmart and the DVD player doesn't work. Really ticks me off as I want another one but there aren't any in stock so I have to sit around and wait for them to get one in stock.
keleko74 Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 My wife's parents bought us the Durabrand 8.5" portable dvd for Christmas. I have not opened it yet as I am contemplating taking it back based on some of the poor responses I have seen on the net.
ramona1992 Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 We bought 2 Polaroid portable dvd players from Walmart. I really like them - they work great.
aolson Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 My sister bought a cheapo Durabrand on Black Friday 3 yrs ago at Walmart, it is still running strong. I am impressed. Andrea
Illinoismom Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 We haven't had any problems, with the one I bought last BF or the one I bought this BF, as with anything there always a bad one in the bunch but that doesn't make them all bad These are children using them, Did they by chance touch the lazer if so they will then have problems
