Brad Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 As always, we have several dedicated threads for the hotter items each Black Friday. Please try to keep all discussion related to these items in their official threads. Other threads posted will likely be merged into this main thread.
Brad Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 Anyone planning on getting either of the new systems (PS4 or Xbox One) this year?
queenkishaa Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I will be getting the XBOX ONE (already pre ordered on Amazon) so I am looking for deals on games.
tyreejames Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I preordered Xbox One for DS17; I know he will be getting Call of Duty: Ghosts for it. I will have to wait for his lists to see any other games maybe the new Battlefield.
Peppermint Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I've preordered both. Not sure which one my boys will want. Whichever one I don't keep I will either resell to someone looking for one or return it.
len_mullen Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 We own one of each of the last gen consoles. Neither of my boys is biting on the new consoles at this time. Instead, we are going with new desktop computers and Steam. This should help me pay for their college
jaymacfla Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 (edited) SteamOS is coming out. It is a new operating system which is based upon a Linux build, but has been structured to run most games. Where the system shines, is it's ability to allow the user the ability to stream games, movies and music among shared devices. Many are hoping that this will eventually usurp any console out there, due to the PC being the stronger candidate from the upgradeability standpoint. Steam will roll out a FREE operating system, and it can be downloaded and set up on almost any PC. Since it is Linux based, it can be dual booted as well. You will have access to your Steam library, since the games are tied to your account, not the machine. Steam will eventually roll out their own Steambox in the near future. I am hearing that this may be customized by the end user as well. Many modern PCs can be upgraded with ram, video card or bluray player as the customer sees fit. This will allow you to have the best of both worlds. From this platform, you can run all of your PCs, share the games, and get great deals on games from all of the indie game resellers out there, usually 8 or more games(a good portion are AAA games) bundled for about $6. The major problem with consoles is the cost of the games, which can be prohibitive to most budgets. For parents on a tight budget, this is a godsend, since you can buy games super cheap (I can list links upon demand) and your children can access them through each other's computer on your own home network. Docdurr Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 I have preordered both systems. Not sure if going through with both. Definitely getting Xbox one but unsure about the PS4.
jamieva Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Son has PS3 and Xbox 360 but going to wait on the next gen until more pre teen games are out. Only saw maybe 1 game he would play right away so probably Xmas 2014 when they have a bigger game catalog. Looking for deals on games.
momlori Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Looking at Disney Infinity for GS. Any predictions on if now is better to buy or wait for BF?
jakesmommy403 Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Hey guys, what do you think about this deal? I want to get a 3DS XL for my son this year, along with Animal Crossing New Leaf and a couple of Mario games. Target has a bundle online right now with a blue 3DSXL and Animal Crossing New Leaf for $215. Do you think I should go ahead and move on that now? Seems like a pretty good deal. I've checked and I saw that last BF Target had a Mario 3d Land bundle with the 3DSXL for $150 but I'm a little nervous that I won't get anywhere near that thing in the store or online. Your thoughts?
ItsMeD Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 I preordered the ps4. I was thinking about maybe ordering Xbox one also but decided against it after they original stance they had on many features and some of the lackluster press it's gotten. I'll just wait on it. Re: Disney infinity, you should just wait for bf. Bf and the days following Christmas tend to be the best video game sale days
jakesmommy403 Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Ok, I bought the 3DSXL deal from Target. I figure I would rather get it now and have it, along with his top game he wants to go with it, and then I'll wait until BF week to start looking for deals on other games for it. Yay! All I need for him now is Skylanders Swap Force and a few 3DS games and he's done! 1

All I need for him now is Skylanders Swap Force and a few 3DS games and he's done! I was just about to type that I would say go ahead and buy it just so you will atleast have it but I personally would still try to get it at Target/Walmart if they have it at a better rate on BF. I have found this is the best way for me to ensure that i get what my boys are wanting. I'm not saying I do this on all the items, but if they want something that I know is a hot item and Target has it onsale one week before BF then I'll go ahead and get it but still try to get it on BF. One year I got my DS an Xbox360 on sale at Target but on BF they had it at a better deal w/ a $50 GC. I brought my sons xbox with me that i had bought and when I got the one I target, I immediately returned the other one and got my money back. I figured if I went ahead and returned the original one that I bought it would add 1 more to their stock pile that day for some other person to get. Not sure if I'll have to do any of that this year. They havent' really told me anything that I think will be a hot item this year. Which is fine with me. LOL! 1

LOL!If target still has their price match policy, you can sometimes buy the Black Friday stuff a week or so early and just wander in before the deal-time is up (after your other shopping is complete!) and get a refund of the difference. Worked great for me on a TV several years ago. It was nice to walk in about noon and a receipt and walk out with cash-in-hand.
dakotadenise Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 My son wants a PSP Vita. Anyone have experience with this? Doesn't seem to be a hot item.... 1
ItsMeD Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 My son wants a PSP Vita. Anyone have experience with this? Doesn't seem to be a hot item....PSP vita is from Sony. Its different from something like a DS. Its aimed to play games which are much more similar to what you would find on consoles. I believe Sony recently announced a price drop. I'm not sure if it took effect already. I don't see it dropping further in price for the holidays. But I would not be surprised if they had more bundles for the holidays. It may pick up more steam this year since it will be integrated with the ps4, enabling you to use it as a proxy controller as some sorts. Also, I believe all games on the ps4 will be able to be streamed to the vita via WiFi , or some other magic. Hope this helps
mamat2011 Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 I'm hoping the wii u goes on sale. My oldest daughter wants one, but it's out of my price range right now.
tyreejames Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 I'm hoping the wii u goes on sale. My oldest daughter wants one, but it's out of my price range right now.Nintendo recently dropped the price to $299. Your best bet would be a decent bundle with games or a gift card where you could turn around and buy games. There may be some decent bundles considering it's not selling well and all the buzz this year is behind the PS4 and the Xbox One.
jakesmommy403 Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Question: Do you think we'll see some decent prices on 3DS games closer to BF? Or will they stay around $30 each like they are now? I got that 3DS XL for my son and I already have Animal Crossing New Leaf and Mario and Luigi Dream Team, but I would also like to get Luigi's Mansion and either Mario Kart 7 or Mario Sticker Star. Both games are around $30 right now, and I'm wondering if those prices could drop as we get into holiday shopping season. This is my first time shopping for a DS system, so I don't really know what to expect there. The only other game thingy we have is a Wii and I'm familiar with the sale times on those games. Thanks guys!

amood06 Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 You have to watch TRU's so called sales because there prices are so high that it ends up not really being a deal. Best to price match and then see if you can get offer, from what I read they will price match the one you buy but for the second one that is 40% off they take that amount off first and if the ad is lower then they will price match the second one for the ad price. At least that has been my experience. I think that Target had a buy two get one free sale before, that seems like a great deal if you are in the market for a lot of games.
jakesmommy403 Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Thanks so much! I'm going to check those TRU prices right now and see what I can find, and I'll keep an eye out for that Target sale too. I appreciate the help.
starbeck96 Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Does anyone think that we will see a sale on the Xbox 360 with Kinect? That is the main thing my daughter is asking for so I definitely want to get it and since they are coming out with the Xbox one, I am hoping to see a sale on the xbox 360 or at least a bundle or a good gift card deal. I would love it if Walmart offered it like they did 2 years ago. It was 199 with a 50.00 gift card. 1

lakiaw Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 I preordered 2 PS4s and some games. So those are out the way. Yaay! May still pick up some PS3 games Black Friday. I wonder if any of the PS4 or Xbox One games will be on sale Black Friday for really cheap Hmmm? 1
