I agree, friends is a big factor when playing on consoles. But there is a caveat that people should take into account. Just because people played one console before, doesn't mean that's the next one they'll move to. For instance, if your son and his friends played 360, his friends may get the ps4 next, or maybe they have already. Then your son will get the Xbox one, but his friends have moved to the ps4. This happens a lot, and a couple of websites have shown surveys that many former Xbox 360 players have switched to the ps4.

The Lego games are always fun. Did he have a ps3? Has he played the uncharted games on the ps3? If not, then the uncharted collection on ps4 would be great for him. Battlefront comes out in less than two weeks. It's a star wars game, so everyone loves that. There's a racing game called drive club that he may like if he's into racing games. And you could always give him a psn gift card and he can choose games to download.

I see this happening. PS4s are already 350. I think retailers will have good deals on them. At the very leasy, I would expect holiday bundles with more games and/or an extra controller which will effectively make the console sub 350. Good luck!

The Walmart deal someone mentioned earlier is a good deal. It includes a $50 walmart gc that you can use to get a game, extra controller, etc., and it includes a free downloadable game (he has to choose between Destiny, Far Cry 4, NBA 2k15 and LittleBigPlanet 3). Gamestop still has a deal (online only) for the black friday bundle (includes GTA5, the Last of Us), and includes the camera for free. It's a better than their black friday deal. These 2 are great deals.

It really depends. The best deal I have seen with a Kinect is the Best Buy Assassin's Creed bundle for $429. You are essentially getting an extra controller and kinect for an additional $105. Just be wary of Kinect. Microsoft has seemingly abandoned it a bit with their push of consoles without kinect. There are not many games that are using kinect. Don't beat yourself up too much if you choose to go with a version that does not include kinect. Most people are opting for this version also.

I thought they had this today and it sold out? It may be pretty hard. You may want to jump on it as soon as it pops up again. That's a fantastic price. I haven't really kept up with any of the Disney Infinity items, but GENERALLY speaking when games go on sale on Black Friday for both consoles. A lot of times they'll use the game box in the ad to advertise one specific version of the game, ps4 version of Destiny for example, however, it'll still be on sale that day on the xbox one.

In the end, it will come down to personal preferences. Their are some caveats with what their uncle is saying. The systems are very similar technically speaking; they both have 8gb of ram, for instance - however, sony went with ram that is much faster and much better, where MS opted for the cheaper slower ram. Right now there is not much difference, but multiplatform games (games that come out on both systems) tend to perform better on the ps4. This doesn't mean every game on ps4 outperforms the xbox one, but it has been the trend, and most believe it'll grow once developers learn how to take advantage of the better performing ram. Both will run and play a game like madden fine. Are your children into baseball at all? If so, the only real mlb licensed game is The Show, which is made by a sony owned company, and is exclusive to playstation. Another issue is that so far the ps4 has outsold the xbox one by a good margin (which is why they have cut the price so massively in the US), so there may be an issue with what their friends are playing. Kids tend to enjoy consoles more if they are the same ones their friends own. With regards to the games that are bundled with the ps4 - GTA5 and the Last of Us are great games. The Last of Us is considered by many to be one of it's generations best games. However, the Last of Us is not for kids. I believe it comes as a download code so you can't re-sell it at gamestop, but you should be able to sell it online, craigslist, etc. GTA5 should be easy to sell at gamestop or online also, or trade it for a game like Little Big Planet 3, or something similar. I think you'll have a similar dilemma with the xbox bundles. They are probably too young to play the games that are bundled (Halo, assassin's creed), so you'll have to sell those too. So, we're pretty much back to square one, lol. In the end of the day, it comes down to preference. Good luck!

It depends what is included in the bundle. I believe Dell is having a black friday bundle, ps4+gta V+last of us remastered for $400. I think that's a great deal - ps4 @ regular price but with two great games. I would probably wait to see what are the bundles offered on the ps4. But that's with the understanding that most of their bundles, if not all of them, will be priced @ 400

Nowadays, it doesn't really matter if the game is a downloaded game or not. The new consoles require you to "load" games on to the hard drive, even if it's a disc. Even so, 500gb should be good enough to start with. I have a PS4 with 500gb and it's been more than enough for the year I've owned it. Yes, eventually I'll have to delete something or whatever, but it's not that big of a deal. If I were to spend this money on myself, I would (and this is assuming all the prices remain exactly the same as they are now), buy the Assassin's Creed Xbox One bundle for $350 which includes two games, and then buy COD: AW separately, so technically he's getting 3 games for less than the Call of Duty bundle. I'm not sure how it works with the xbox one, but the ps4's hdd's can be swapped easily. Assuming it's the same for the xbox one, he could swap it later on. Or, if you splurge on the COD bundle, make it his only gift lol.

I just wanted to clarify one thing - there are different types of xbox live (at least there were different types). There's xbox live silver, and xbox live gold. Silver allows you to connect online, download patches, and purchase content. Gold allows you to use the apps, play online, and some other stuff. I don't believe there is a cost with silver, but you have to pay to use Gold. From the sound of it, you don't need Gold, so you can just sign on with silver and be ok. Games will usually tell you on the back if they need some sort of internet connection, but you should be fine if this is the case. There is a member service for the PS3, but unlike the 360, it is not needed for any part of the game. You can connect the ps3 to the internet right off the bat and have access to everything. But, if the ps3 is also for your son who you don't want playing online, I would highly recommend setting up a parental control where only you have access to the online features. Otherwise they can play online at any time. If you are concerned about what your son may hear playing video games online, then you should definitely keep him away from playing call of duty online lol.

That is crazy. MS has essentially dropped the price of the Xbox one $100 in less than a year. I believed they would drop the price quickly since they were falling behind in sales, but never this fast. This would be nice, but I don't know if Sony would do that. The PS4 has really been beating up the Xbox one in sales, so I don't know if Sony has any real incentive to do so. Maybe they'll do it just to keep the pace, but the ps4 has been selling just fine without any price drops so I would be a little bit surprised if they did that. 1. the holidays usually bring about console bundles; more so than price drops. But, some companies may become desperate enough to drop the price even more than it had, i.e., MS with the xbox one price drop. I'm not sure if Nintendo is in any real reason to drop the price further. Hopefully they do. It seems like the companies are trying to fight their way to more sales. 2. If you are not going to allow your son to play online on the 360, then you don't necessarily need to pay for xbox live. You can just pop in the disc and play single player games, or play two player games. Just keep in mind that there may be some games that require online to be connected and may require live. Also, MS keeps their apps behind an xbox live paywall - so you will not be able to use the netflix, youtube, amazon prime apps either. I'm not sure if you wanted to use these apps. What this means is that you can use the 360 for online connectivity without paying for live. If you don't want to use any of these features, then you don't need to pay for live at all. If you want to use some of these features, you may have an issue. Maybe you can set up some sort of restrictions to keep your soon from playing online. And yes, if your son is too young to play online, then yes, keep him away from online gaming lol. The things you hear, lol :-/

I'm not very familiar with Wiiu game library, but I'd probably suggest Super Smash Brothers, mario kart, and mario 3d world? I'm hoping they have good bundles. Look for consoles bundled with games and/or extra controller and psn cards. Good luck!

I'm assuming there will be sales for the ps3 on Black Friday. I'm sure you will be able to find heavily discounted blu ray players also, but I'd say go for the ps3. One, it connects online so you'll essentially have a blu ray player connected to the internet - some blu rays have special online features. You'll also have access to the apps on the ps3. You mentioned you already have a 360, so you have access to similar apps already (netflix, amazon prime, etc.). However, if you are not using your 360 much as you mentioned, you can cancel your xbox live subscription. MS places all their apps behind the live paywall, where sony does not. If you already cancelled live, then you'll just use the apps on the ps3. You'll also be able to play any ps3 games you may have missed out or were curious about. Finally, and probably most importantl to you, the ps3 is/was a great blu ray player. I'm not sure about right now, but for years it was considered the best blu ray player on the market. It was also the recommended blu ray player for the Criterion Collection for some time (I'm not sure if it currently is). Yes, you will be able to find a blu ray player for less money. But you will be getting more for your money with a ps3. I would normally recommend just going straight to the ps4 at this point, but if you don't see yourself going out and buying/waiting for new games, then you can always just get the cheaper ps3 and enjoying that.

That is a good point. Sony followed suit and now requires a fee to play online. It's included in PS plus, so if you subscribe to PS plus, then you're good to go. The good thing about ps plus is that you also get 2-3 a month included in the subscription, so it off sets a bit. That said, you technically do not need ps plus. Sony doesn't put anything else behind a paywall. So, if you will only play sp games, then you don't need to subscribe, unless you want the free games. If you want to play online, you'll have to subscribe to ps plus. I'm 99% sure that holiday bundles will include some sort of ps plus deal - either a free year, or 3 months.

The Crew has been delayed, and wont be releasing until December. They really shot themselves in the foot and will miss Black Friday. If the sales don't do well the first week or so, there is always the possibility that it'll drop in price right before Christmas, but I doubt it. I think it'll drop in price right after Christmas. A lot of games usually drop in price right after Christmas; Call of Duty is a good example. Also, are you talking about Battlefield Hardline? If so, I think that game releases next year. I wouldn't be surprised if the 360 and ps3 drop in price for Black Friday. They are pushing the new consoles, and will want to get as many sales as they can on their old consoles. It's still too soon to hit the magic number of $100 in my opinion, but I can see some sort of price drop on existing prices, or load consoles with an extra 2 or 3 games bundled in.

MS lowered the price to one sku - they have selling a version of the xbox one for $400 instead of $450 that doesn't include Kinect. But it technically wasn't a price drop, but a different sku - it doesn't have kinect, and it was due to the fact that the ps4 has been outselling the xbox one by a good margin every month. I believe both consoles will be selling bundles (consoles bundled with games for 400, maybe consoles bundled with an extra controller and game for about 450, and the destiny ps4 bundle currently priced @ 450 maybe priced at 400). I saw some questions about which console to pick. Specifically, in a case where the child wants a 360. That's a really tough call. If his friends have a 360, he will want a 360 to play with them. You could jump the gun and get him an xbox one now. But, the ps4 has been outselling xbox one, and many people have surprisingly jumped from the 360 to the ps4. I say surprisingly not because it is a bad system (some people argue it's the best of the two), but normally this trend takes a while to occur. I would hold out as long as possible to see what console to get him/her. But I would keep in mind that the ps3 and 360 are at the end of their life cycles and are already seeing limited game releases.

PSP vita is from Sony. Its different from something like a DS. Its aimed to play games which are much more similar to what you would find on consoles. I believe Sony recently announced a price drop. I'm not sure if it took effect already. I don't see it dropping further in price for the holidays. But I would not be surprised if they had more bundles for the holidays. It may pick up more steam this year since it will be integrated with the ps4, enabling you to use it as a proxy controller as some sorts. Also, I believe all games on the ps4 will be able to be streamed to the vita via WiFi , or some other magic. Hope this helps

I'm on the lookout already. I just bought a home and need a new TV for the living area. Im going led because there is a window right next to it which let's in a good amount of light. Yes, plasmas have improved in this respect, but its the one area which LEDs will continue to win out. I'm leaning heavily towards the 60 inch vizio smart led. Its on sale now at most places for about $900 (I don't really NEED smart features since my ps3 will be connected to it, however its just convenient). The one thing holding me back is that there may be better deals coming. I prefer the image on the 60 inch sharp led, but I can't justify the $200 o $300 price difference. But if it drops as we approach black Friday or for black Friday I'd much prefer that. I may wait till later in the month to purchase the TV, so that way I will gave at least a 30 day window to see the ads and make a decision . what to do, what to do! Lol

I preordered the ps4. I was thinking about maybe ordering Xbox one also but decided against it after they original stance they had on many features and some of the lackluster press it's gotten. I'll just wait on it. Re: Disney infinity, you should just wait for bf. Bf and the days following Christmas tend to be the best video game sale days

When buying video games on sale, I've never really had a problem getting them on Black Friday. I usually show up at Best Buy some time around 9 or 10 after the big rush, and they still have plenty available. I don't really recall whether stores keep them on sale the rest of the weekend. The best two times for buying new games tend to be Black Friday, and then after Christmas. A bunch of new games come out in November and December, such as Call of Duty, Halo, the new Playstation All Stars Battle Royale, etc. You can almost guarantee that some of these games (if not all) will be on sale after Christmas. I always buy by COD after Christmas for about $40 - then you can sell it online 6 or 7 months later for about $35 to $40, breaking even. I would keep an eye at the ads coming out. I believe i just saw Walmart put certain ps3/360 games on sale for $10, $15, and $25. It's hard to see because the print is small, but maybe some games you are looking out for is in that $25 price range. If not, keep an eye for the full BB ad.

I have a ps3, and I usually get games on black friday for myself and as gifts. They tend to put hit games that have been out for a bit on sale for like 30 bucks. Borderlands 2 and Skyrim are some guys that fit the description. Big sellers that have been on sale for a while now. I would keep my out for Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. I would not be a bit surprised if one of those stores (if not all) put those games on sale. You may be able to get both for the price of one.
