Elmck Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I have never done this because I am always afraid they will cancel my order and I won't have that item for Christmas. However this year I need to do some (hopefully the item I want will be on sale) to send to my 3yr old grandson in Wisconsin. I want to order online and have it shipped to their house. Please share your tips for online Black Friday Deals. I don't have a smart phone but some other family members I will be with do if it that helps (I will be in B&M lines too). I am hoping to catch a deal before Black Friday but I still want to learn the secrets of getting the deals online in case I need it!!!
tinkrbel Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 (edited) my top tips: make sure you have user id/password for sites you intend to visit make sure you save/update payment details make sure you save/update address details- in your case maybe add an additional address for out of state stay tuned to gottadeal or check prev years BF stuff for when sites are expected to go live I had a horrible time with Walmart.com last year and will not be staying up to visit them this year. Target and BB have had out of stock/back order issues in recent years if I recall correctly I was able to place everything in my cart multiple times at Walmart.com but was not able to login or checkout as a guest even it was just too busy/error laden Edited September 27, 2012 by tinkrbel
jstluvem Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Toys r us was my headache site last year....Amazon was my go to site and no disappointments
bluebear Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Some of the sales go live on Thanksgiving day, so you may still be able to do it from your computer and not worry with a smartphone. Last year I stayed up to 2am Wednesday night waiting for Best Buy to go live, then slept with my laptop on my night table and woke up every hour to refresh. I think it finally went live between 5-6am. Seems like TRU also went live early Thanksgiving too, but I might be mis-remembering.
Brad Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Here is a post we did last year: http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/onlinetips.php Some of the links (such as the ones to the tracker) won't work yet this year but it might help. We cover all the online sales on the site here so you won't miss anything.
Elmck Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 Thanks for the tips!! I am hoping for a train table set, with storage for under 100.
bluebear Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Thanks for the tips!! I am hoping for a train table set, with storage for under 100.Seems like TRU usually has one in their pre-Thanksgiving sale for about that price, in the Big Toy book or whatever they call their toy catalog.
Elmck Posted September 28, 2012 Author Posted September 28, 2012 Seems like TRU usually has one in their pre-Thanksgiving sale for about that price, in the Big Toy book or whatever they call their toy catalog. That would be great!!
tdanette Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Personally, if I truly wanted something, I'd keep checking here b/c many times you can find a deal just as good as BF and have a better chance of actually getting it- or get it at Amazon, since they keep many of their prices in-line with B&M stores around BF. Don't count on TRU or Target, they've cancelled on me several times.
tinkrbel Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Personally, if I truly wanted something, I'd keep checking here b/c many times you can find a deal just as good as BF and have a better chance of actually getting it-I agree..1saleaday.com had a train table maybe a few days ago but by the time I checked the site it was already sold out..not sure how much it was but since it was part of the flash sale it would have been free shipping. It pays to check daily deal sites...although on the other hand if you don't know the brand and can't see the quality in-store sometimes its a gamble.
jesusluvu Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I tried this last year and got ran over by BB. I will never order online during the holidays from them ever again. The customer service was horrible, but do to the backlash BB gave everyone that orders got cancelled late during the holidays a gift card for the amount the item would have cost. I still ahve mine and will use it in sotre this holiday season.
hack2222 Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Another tip for example bestbuy.com seems to have free shipping on their online orders, so don't wait to add items to your cart just to checkout. Once the item you want is in your cart, checkout immediately. Same with any Hot Ticket items at other online stores. Stores go bye the time of your order, and have an inventory of how many of each item they have.
bpr Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Another issue that you may need to think about is keeping track of your orders. When I order on Amazon or Best Buy (or anywhere), I watch for my tracking number and follow it (almost daily once it's shipped). Last year I said seven (maybe eight) packages never arrive at my house. SEVEN! I'm just one person and I had seven items not show up; can you imagine how many other people might be missing stuff? What kind of crap is that? They would make it close by to Norfolk VA, but would never make it to my house. These were all ordered through out the Christmas season, so it's not like they were coming at one time and someone grabbed a stack; the orders came from different places and different days. I had to call Amazon and Best Buy and have the items re-shipped. Luckily, their customer service was great. So make sure you track them. I may need to change my signature to 'Don't get stolen'; then again, I did have some cancellations last year too, lol.
kjunea Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Kohls was the best last year of all the places I e-shopped. No cancelations and got it really quick!
bribri25 Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Kohls was the best last year of all the places I e-shopped. No cancelations and got it really quick!I could not agree more. They were out of some items (specific colors and sizes) and didnt tell you until you checked out rather than when adding to your cart; so that was the only pain point - trying to add one more towel/washcloth/pillow to get to even multiple of $50 for the kohls cash. But the ordering was simple, on-time and no trouble with the site.
dhancock219 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Last year was the 1st I've ever had problems with shipping. I ordered a necklace from Sears for my daughter (1 of their 1 day super duper deals), and they sent it via mail! No way to trace, etc and when I called they pretty much told me to go pound salt. We ordered ALOT from Kohl's on Thanksgiving night during their awesome sale, and 1 of the packages got lost. They bent over backwards to take care of the problem, substituted higher priced items for now out of stock items, and extended an addition discount for our inconvenience. We don't do the camp out thing anymore for BF, so most shopping is done on line. If anyone from Sears reads these posts, can you guess where we will and won't be ordering from this year?
mom2logan Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 I had great experiences with BB and WalMart last year, but I will never order online from ToysRUs again. I placed an order that was a few dollars shy of free shipping, so I added a few little things to push up the total. About a week later I got a cancellation notice on the item that I wanted and they wouldn't let me cancel the rest of the order. When it arrived, they had charged me almost $10 shipping on the two fill-in items (together they were about $5) that I really didn't even want. I called to complain and they said I could return the items but there was nothing they could do about the shipping. I was highly upset! I don't even order from them throughout the rest of the year now, hard to get that bad taste outta my mouth..lol
faceofboe Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 I would say that almost all of my holiday online shopping is done through Amazon. I have never had a problem with them. And they ship rather quickly, even during the holidays.
noehlp Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 I remember last year staying up waiting for best buys online so late but cant remember the site I used that gave a list of all online times last year. I know best buy and several others had gave times but some of them didnt actually start the black friday online tell few hours after what they had said. Will this site post a place with the online times somewhere. Also do you guys imagine the same thing to happen with stores giving times for online and not sticking to that and going a few hours after they said?Yes, once it gets closer, the Online Black Friday section on the forum will be opened up. As we have in the past, there will be a list of times that the online retailer's are expected to start their sales. There are also threads that will be opened for each store's specific sale. And yes, there is always a possibility for the times to be not 100% right, or the retailer has web-site issues, or a number of various reasons why the sale isn't ready to start on the time that it was thought to.I hope this helps! And welcome to the GottaDeal community!

I am hoping to catch a deal before Black Friday but I still want to learn the secrets of getting the deals online in case I need it!!!Best recommendation is Amazon IMO. I had a lot of success with them. Wish list the items you want and check your wish list daily and the prices can fluctuate a lot. They are also good with guaranteed delivery too. If your package doesn't arrive, its a no hassle money back guarantee. Stay away from places like Best Buy, Fry's Electronics or FYE. They have a bad track record of losing packages and untimely deliveries. Also buying very high "in demand" items are super discounted prices can lead to those order cancellations. I bought a Gold necklace from JC Penneys last year at 70% off the price. Since it was considered a good seller, they immediately emailed me after buying it stating that they couldn't put a time stamp on it because of it being so in demand. After 7 weeks and about 15 calls to find out where it was, they told me it was not in stock. Last year, stores like JC Penney and Best Buy would market high profile products not knowing how many were in stock and it lead to situations like this. I'd also say to call the retailer's warehouse (if you can) and find out their shipping policy and if they guarantee delivery and their refund policy too.
KC-Traderbear Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 If there is something that I want to purchase from Walmart online and it is part of a sale that starts at 8 p.m. Thanksgiving night, when exactly do I log in ONLINE to Walmart to get that same deal that is in the stores? Or can I even do that? I live in the central time zone. Does that matter? Any help would be appreciated!
Brad Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Most of these questions will be answered when we launch all the online BF shopping tools here on the site at the end of this week. Be patient - there is still plenty of time We're in the process of making up the schedule of start times and preparing everything you'll need to buy, discuss the sales, get alerted, etc...

nebraskaparkfan Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Your online listings last year was wonderful!!!!! I think I only went to walmart to buy movies and a few other odds and ends and to menards b/c they don't do online and to Michaels. I shopped penneys (they don't carry my son's size for jeans in the store), old navy, amazon, best buy, bath and body works and several others. My son also got his xbox 360 online rather than camping at best buy and got a better deal. I had no problems with getting anything, just a glitch with best buy and when I called them, they were incredibly helpful and got my order completed for me.
vaughanville Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Hubby has to work this year on BF so I am going to have to get online-shopping-savvy REAL quick. Watching these threads closely. :D

MICKEY3601 Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Last year as BB's Thanksgiving deals came on-line they had a $100 itunes with digital delivery gift card for $60 that was supposed to be $80. BB eventually realized this and shut it down. If anyone who had bought one at $60 received the email with the redemption code then they where allowed to keep it. Many others who had not received the redemption code before BB realized the issue where sent cancellation emails from BB & told they could repurchase it for $80. I do not think that was right of BB.
Turner1997 Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Oh yes! I was one of those people who got the cancellation email from BB - ugh! Oh well, it was worth a shot! I did most of my BF shopping online last year and had very few problems. If I recall correctly, it was mostly Wednesday night and I got all of the items I was interested in (including TVs from Best Buy for the kids rooms). Had to stay up most of the night but it was much better than waiting in line out in the cold! Good luck to everyone this year!
arress Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Stalking the site for your online forum. My favorite place to find all the online deals during Black Friday. Can't wait.
pinkdecorator Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 I've been searching and searching trying to find what items from the ads for B & M stores might also be available for ordering online. I'm new to gottadeal...is this something you will have or is already posted someplace? It seems not all but some of their BF deals are available online....just wondered if there's a specific listing (online ordering options). Thanks so very much!
