With the exception of AK, they make up for it with taxes on other things (state income tax, for example). Here in PA: clothing, food (grocery store food & beverages, not restaurant food), and items to be made into clothing are not taxed. It's 6%, with an extra 1% in Philly and Pittsburgh (city tax).

buckwheat_jegc Posted November 12, 2005 Posted November 12, 2005 Here in California the tax is 8.25% so I miss the 6% in Maryland, although Delaware, which was an hour from Maryland was tax free. Fortunately I can shop in the BX where I don't have to pay taxes, but the BX here is so small that their selection isn't that good.
