Guest DigDoug Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Some people react to BF like they do coupons - they can't be bothered with saving money.Coupons are getting close to a waste of time to me. Most of the time, the store brand item is cheaper than the name brand item - coupon. Also, most coupons I see are for products I have no interest in buying.
Spotted1 Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 This will be my first year BF shopping. I didn't realize the deals were so good, honestly. I wanted to go so bad last year, but my DH had to work (I don't have a drivers license. Long story.) so I couldn't. This year, he's taking the day off. Those jeeps are so worth it, to me. lol
wildtama Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 If they feel too good for getting a deal, so be it. That attitude probably carries over to more aspects of their life. I enjoy meeting ppl in line. It's amazing the folks who come from all over. Just like going to a concert, imo
heavenlysshine Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Keep your fingers crossed for free shipping online at walmart.com, because those jeeps are also available online and you won't have to fight in-store for them! Just check around midnight the morning of BF. ~H~ This will be my first year BF shopping. I didn't realize the deals were so good, honestly. Daydreamer228 Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Okay, I'm going to have to stay out of the BF forum. Y'all are getting me excited about BF shopping, but I can't do it! I've always had to work on BF. For many years in restaurants, now because I work at a grocery store. I'll have to be at work at 4 in the morning and won't get off before noon, so I'll miss the really good deals. My oldest daughter usually goes with her mother-in-law though.
copados1993 Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Some people react to BF like they do coupons - they can't be bothered with saving money. My husband is in the military, so we try to make sure that our money stretches as far as it can. I can't understand people that think they are to good for getting a good deal.
blakes_mommy Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Even if I had millions, I would shop the deals on black friday. I am an addict for a good deal!

I'm gonna go ahead and add one to my cart on walmart.com just to find out how much shipping is incase there isn't the free shipping option. Sorry to hijack the thread, btw.
JeniseM Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 I am a take it or leave it type for BF. It all depends on what the sales are and where. I live about 1 hour from all the good stores which are in Kansas City. That place is crazy enough trying to drive in on a normal day so there is no way I am going on BF. Here we only have Walmart, Sears (appliances, tools), small JcPenny's, Radio Shack, small Kmart. Now when we go visit DH's family in southern OK then I go with MIL down to Texas. Last year DH was in Iraq and there was no way I was taking 3 children with me, kinda defeats the purpose. I think I might try to go this year around here. Dh likes the laptop... lol.
Candy Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 I think alot has to do with perception. I know ALOT of people who work with my dh...so I KNOW how much money they basically deal with...and they turn their nose up to ANYTHING cheap....of course..they are also in debt up the wazoo..lol..and we are not. I asked one of my dh's buddies wives if she liked to go to BF and other sales..she looked as if I had told her I was from anotehr planet..but so sweetly informed me...they really didnt need to wait for that ...besides....after they spent a $1,000 on each child..she was exhausted...hmmmm..(the children are 6 and 4)
ShawnainKY02 Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 As hard as this is to believe, I didn't even know that BF existed until about 9 years ago. Imagine my suprise the first time that I went to Wal-Mart for one! And I didn't know that other stores did this too. Now, it is my yearly ritual. About 4 years ago, I finally talked the hubby into going with me. Now, he makes sure that we have a sitter for that morning, so that he can go too. Sometimes we go to the same store, sometimes we divide up and go to seperate stores, depending on the deals. So, to get to my point, maybe they just don't know what it is. But, that is okay with me, because it makes it easier on me. :)
shanni Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 I've noticed the people that really NEED to shop on BF are the ones that really have no intrest in it, I just don't get it.
ajburlingame Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Some people just aren't thrifty. Alot of the time, they are the ones who need to be thrifty the most. We have been through some hard times and even though things are a little better now, I do not forget what it was like then and try to spend our money as wisely as possible. (both on BF and any other day of the year)
elena_398 Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 All up to the particular shopper. Personally if I can save $10++ I'll lose sleep and brave the crowds. Some people would rather not deal with it. thats fine with me. Once less person I have to beat to the deals :)
txguy Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Hi all, first time poster here and this is an interesting topic. I always pay attention to the BF deals, on the web, in print etc but I rarely bother with the BF sales myself. I find it interesting to see what's on sale but I end up sleeping in that Friday, almost always. Generally, I find little for sale that I REALLY want that badly on BF. We don't have kids so no need to deal with toy shopping and most of the deals stores use to get you into the store, end up being a bust from what I read online. How often do they offer an incredible deal on a PC or TV or something like that, you get to the store and they have like 6 on hand? Not worth the aggravation IMO because I would be super PO'd I waited to get into the store for nothing and would walk out without buying anything else (stores count on you staying and buying something else because of the time you invested waiting) there. I'm also not a fan of long lines, at all. I don't think there's a deal out there that could make me stand in some of the lines I hear about, I have little patience for long lines on non-sale days. lol It has nothing to do with not wanting to save money, I'm a cheap SOB and look for a lot of deals for things I want. If there's something THAT good on BF, I'll venture out but you won't see me standing in line from the night before to get into the store.
Guest Deals4Me Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Yes, and hubbys cousin tried telling me the sales aren't any better than the rest of the year. Well, maybe that's because she has never gone. yeah, like I'm gonna freeze my butt off for carebears that go on sale,um NEVER. I've never see those $15 carebears for less than 12, so I think $5 is AWESOME!!

Hollie ROUTINELY walks into Jewel gets $400 in groceries, pays a matter of CHANGE for it. I know I personally havent bought TP, shampoo, conditioner, ETC in over a year, and we have NAME BRANDS! I have 400 bottles of Dove and Finesse in my bedroom closet, and 100 jars of pasta sauce in storage... If I used only what I have, Iwould never ever need to shop again. Coupons are good, IF you watch sales and have multiples of coupons....(like I bought 16 boxes of haircolor, at .50 each (clearance for $3, coupon for $5/2) then I will sell them at my garage sale for $2-$3 a piece. AND THEY SELL LIKE NUTS!

I'm a stay at home mom by choice which is fine. I just look for any way to save an extra dollar. If you could give me any extra ideas, I'd sure love to know some!!!
cherry33778 Posted November 14, 2005 Author Posted November 14, 2005 Yesterday, after convincing my sister that the computer at BB was a good idea, she finally agreed to let me buy it for her and she reimburse me the money later. So far I think this a first step toward shopping for BF. What do you guys think?
pbbjmom Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 I know several people who think I'm crazy for shopping on BF. I told a lady I knew about the Care Bears, her daughter adores them, and I got a very polite thank you. I could tell she had no intentions of going. I have 4 kids & BF is how they get a good Christmas. My youngest turns 2 this Thanksgiving day. He was born in the wee hours Monday morning before BF, I was out there that Friday morning shopping at 5:00 a.m. I paid for it the next several days, but my kids got a good Christmas & I had a blast.

sperdue Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Thanks! Usually when I mention it, I get looked at like I'm a loon. LOL Don't feel bad, my family does the same thing. They just don't understand us!! Funny thing to me is the ones that ask, "Well, why didn't you get me one too?"I'm thinking, I asked you to go. You didn't want to brave the crowds. Heck NAW you can't have one! I earned these bargains!
