I have heard good things about the Infra Shine brand as well as CHI. Amazon has a CHI for about $71 right now and the Infra Shine for about $80...but I figure if I am going to spend that kind of money, I'd better get lots of opinions! Granted, she has much better hair skills than I do. LOL Do you know if buying one from Ulta or Amazon voids the CHI warranty? Bought my daughter a Revlon one that was rated a "Best Buy" with Consumer Reports and it just didn't seem to heat up as much and the plates didn't feel as smooth on the hair either. Wound up buying her a CHI the following Christmas and I also replaced mine with a CHI. No experience with Paul Mitchell but my cousin bought one of the ION ones and she loves it. LOVE it. I have natural super curly hair, blus it borders on beng dry and rough. This iron sraightens it out in NO time (wet or dry), and it makes it soooooo smooth. (If you have hair that tends to get static-y like mine does, get a Conair brush that is made to keep the static down, and you can't lose.) I bought one last year around Christmas time from Folica.com in a set (paddle brush, fine tooth sturdy rat tail comb, hair clips, travel case, heat mat, dvd, mini sedu w/glove and pouch/heat mat, and 3 sedu sprays for only $150 plus I got another mini sedu for free) and I absolutely LOVE it! I've also heard that they last much longer than Chi. Pay the extra $$, you won't be disappointed! By the way, I'm African American and I have 4b/4c natural hair and when I flat iron it and then wrap it it comes out better than people with a perm. No Kidding! My aunt ordered my cousin one for Christmas, but hers went out on her by the time it got here in mail, and she went ahead and gave it too her. If you have hair that is curly and tends to frizz at the first sight of humidity (as mine does), I would not recommend a wet to dry. And my hair is a frizz magnet. That's great. You must have a really good one. I have used flat irons 20+ years and have never to this day had any luck with a wet to dry. My MIL is a professional hair stylist and she is the one who first got me a Fusion Tools. After that one finally wore out on me, she got me a Chi for Christmas. I have used one or the other since. I think I like the Chi better, but they both leave a really silky look to my hair and it lasts all day long, no matter the humidity. Everyones hair is different, and mine just responds better to a really good tourmaline ceramic flat iron.
