Marcster Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 "Black Jack Taco?" LMAO!!! I love it!You haven't seen that one yet? http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Hmmm/Scratch-Head.gif
miss_heidi Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 I work retail in a very diverse store. Everyone there uses the term "Black Friday" and noone gets all bent out of shape over it.
momof3luvs1 Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 oh - lets not forget silver and grey -- they might offend our mature population. This is hilarious! Thanks for the great laugh :)
amickeyfan Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I guess we should not celebrate Thanksgiving either since that really isn't politically correct either if you think about it. The first Thanksgiving was about the Pilgrims and Indians. Using the term "Indians" is no longer PC either... Nursery Schools can no longer sing "The Ten Little Indians" due to that... I guess that entire darn weekend is politically incorrect then... what has happened to America

But what about those Agnostics and Athiests? They don't have a holiday to celebrate... So they might feel slighted. Can't do that! Even wishing someone a cheery "Good Morning!" is incorrect. Perhaps that person just had a death in the family, their car was stolen, their jelly donut was jelly-less... Nothing quite so good about it, eh? I think eventually we'll all just stop talking to eachother, otherwise you might offend someone. http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Hmmm/zip.gif

Melissa Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Just when you think you've heard everything...

setlok73 Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 what about white christmas? I guess its okay as long as you're a Caucasian Christian JK!
KBsDarling Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I have to ask...are you serious?no....unless someone thinks I can get enough support to get my non-profit status
Hazmina Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 lol I actually coudnt figure out why it would be offensive. So did not even think of "black" in that term as "african american" I really thought they were "offended" cause you inferred they needed to shop on that day to get things cheaper...LOLI read it the same way, it was only a few comments in that I figured it out:confused:
jdoug Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I always thought it was the kickoff day for stores to get "in the black"- meaning profitable- therefore a good connotation.
LuvMaerz Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 That is freaking ridiculous. In that case, I demand they no longer call it a "White Sale"!

It's 'Merry Christmas' for me and that is what you will get. Hang a sign around your neck if you prefer me use another slogan. Don't take offense; I'm not a mind reader. :holiday12:holiday10:holiday09:holiday16:holiday14:holiday13:holiday04:holiday03:holiday07:holiday05:holiday11:holiday02:holiday08:holiday01:hert: Edited November 11, 2009 by bpr

bpr Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 (edited) If you had some, I would have used them all. I'm not saying I won't tell people 'Happy Hanukkah' or 'Happy Kwanzaa', but I'm not going out of my way to accomodate them either, just like they are not by saying 'Happy Holidays', accomodating me. Wow, look what I found. Now I can have new smileys.
Smiley Face Thanks for the idea Scott. I didn't know I could do that. Edited November 11, 2009 by bpr

SweetCanela Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 OK folks - I have one for you. At work we do a Secret Santa and several people at my office have been asking about it so they could shop on BF. (I must mention that about 80% of our office is African-American - I am not.) I sent out a message to everyone telling them when we would be doing the drawing and that we would be doing it so people could shop on Black Friday. I actually had someone call me up and tell me that I needed to change the message since that was not PC and it might upset some people. I told the person that I did not come up with the name that is what the retailers have named it and it had nothing to do with color but the books being in the black vs the red. Is anyone else as surprised as I was by this? Are we getting to the point that everything is offensive or are people being oversensitive??? Sorry, this just so blew me away I had to ask!Yes we are getting to overly sensitive what a lack of education! I'm African-American and would never think to do something so ignorant! I know the meaning of the term and why it is called that!
Secret Squirrel Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 No, seriously, would someone please help me rename these totally-Politically-Incorrect items?! http://blog.chickdowntown.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/licorice.jpghttp://www.thedailyplanner.com/images/1.PACME3BK-Crayon.jpg

Wouldn't want to offend...

I mentioned in post 10 that we needed to change the crayon color. "Why don't they go to Crayola and tell them that they need to change the name of the Black crayon to something like "Does not omit light" or "absence of reflective properties"...my fellow GDers understand :) you all make me laugh
setlok73 Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 That is freaking ridiculous. In that case, I demand they no longer call it a "White Sale"! What do you think would happen if we started demanding that? Maybe going over the top like that would put things in perspective for everyone.
TerReuv Posted November 13, 2009 Author Posted November 13, 2009 It has all gotten so stupid! I also have a problem with Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. I celebrate Christmas and that is what I say! We start answering our phones at work with Happy Holidays after Thanksgiving. Last year I was messing with my boss and asked if I said Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Hannaka (sp), Happy Holidays.... then would it work? He laughed and said if I could get it all out that would be funny, but he was sure that someone somewhere would find something to complain about! Don't these people have anything else to do except find things wrong??
lelee24 Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 You know when you think about it, it's really a compliment. I mean some people object to calling things "black" like Black Tuesday when the stock market crashed because they say black is always used in a negative way. But in this instance it's a good thing because of the positive financial results most retailers get from that day's sales. Hence Black Friday. They should be proud....now Native Americans on the other hand..... could be a problem with the books being "in the red"??????
