The IPod doesn't have a radio but you can download apps to play some stations. The Touch is also WiFi so you can surf the internet on it when you can find a signal. Using the WiFi you can also download songs straight into it from Itunes. It's a nifty gadget and I love mine, but I'd never spend the money on one for an 11 y/o.
