Absolutely agree with you 100%. So they got rid of rebates - good for them. Which of these would you choose: 1. FAR or 2. on sale for $20 but no rebates. I'll take the FAR every time. Now if it was FAR versus $5 with no rebates, now we're talking.

Rebates are a problem only if you let them become a problem: 1. Deal with only reputable rebates companies (examples given above). 2. Submit it correctly (according to the terms). 3. Submit it timely - as soon as you have everything you need (UPC's, etc.). Get it in the mail (or online - those are the best). 4. Keep a copy of everything submitted. 5. If not received within the documented time frame or if I get some kind of letter or postcard saying I was "missing" something or something was "incorrect", I send a written response respectfully requesting payment within 30 days and I include anything (from the copy I kept earlier) I deem necessary to prove my case. You can call and that will work in most cases, but I prefer to write - offers more evidence in case I need to invoke #6 below. 6. If nothing still after 30 days from my written response - BBB complaint is opened. That gets their attention.

I am glad to hear that there are still some stores that know what customer service is!

One thing I learned from this year: Go to CC at opening and just get any doorbusters plus any other stuff that you know is going to be gone within an hour or two. Then get the hell out of there, fast. Go back in the early evening (say 6 PM) and the place is empty. I picked up all of the cheap non-doorbuster DVD's, FAR software, FAR calculator, the Uniden 5.8GHz phones, etc. that evening with NO waiting to checkout.

What time did you get in line for that desktop? Where I went, people were lined up by 6 PM to get either the laptop or desktop.

I have never had any problems with Compusa's erebates. They are the best - and that includes Staples.

Yep, that's why I went with the HP Athlon 64 X2 package for $499 (I upgraded the LCD to a 17" from 15" for an extra $30). Launching the FAR printer, router, software on eBay to bring the net cost down.
