Perimeter Perusing at Target (Target Clearance Deals) - 2008
KC-Traderbear replied to Gator Pam's topic in Offline Hot Deals
I thought 12.xx was awfully high as well. You can buy sets with as many pups and more accessories in the regular price toy aisle for $9.99. Guess that's why I thought it was a pricing error. I never really pay much attention to what's out for valentines until it hits 75%, so I'm not as plugged in to the price of stuff. I always thought that those little holidiay novelty toys were usually around 5 bucks. -

Did anyone else notice the v-day puppies in my pocket set is ringing up $3.24? I was all set to buy one that I found today, but I scanned them and thought... $3.24!?? That would mean that they would need to be $12.99 regular price. None of the pocket puppy sets in the toy aisle were even that expensive. Anyway, don't know if it was an error or not, but you might check your receipt. I think (although not sure) that they should have been ringing $1.24. -

... also don't forget the Valentines Day scrapbooking stuff. PLEASE if you are in the KC area, don't forget those aisles. I sooo don't need any of it, but when all that cute stuff is just sitting in those aisles undetected, it's hard to pass it up!!! I am one of those moms who just continues to buy all of those embellishments/paper, etc. just CERTAIN that I am going to get busy (and get caught up) on my 3 daughters' books. My youngest is 2 and I'm up to her baptism page right now! UGH! Anyway, those aisles seem to always be forgotten and are usually well stocked even at 90% off. -

I noticed that someone found a crockpot for $4.98. I've seen lots of them around, but only at 30-50% off. Did others find those this past week for 75% off? I haven't really been out too much cause of a bad sinus infection and I just wonder if the majority of stores took those crock pots down to 75% off or if there are still some out there! -

Ya, I really think that when there is a DCPI number with a price on it, most cashiers will just enter that number and then enter the price that is on the sticker. If you want to take time to argue and potentially have to get management, then I guess it wouldn't matter if the sticker is on or not. I almost never will stand and make a "scene" at the register though. I've usually got kiddos with me and for me personally it's just not worth it. (If someone is being rude, that is a whole different deal though. I'm not rude to anyone and nothing makes me more upset than when I'm treated like dirt for no reason other than the cashier is having a bad day. THEN I don't feel badly about getting management.) Mostly though, I end up feeling angry and stupid for holding up the line... just not in my personality. So, if I give a fair price and they don't want to believe me, often I will just say forget it then. Almost always though they say, "sounds good to me!" Remember though, if the item is showing up as not found, technically, they DON'T have to sell it to you. So, it all depends on who you get as your cashier; how ornery they want to be and how willing management is to back up their cashiers or go out of their way to get you what you want. Many cashiers just want to move the line though quickly (cause I THINK they are to some degree monitored as to how fast they get people though the line), so if you give a fair price (for me-- usually 75% off) they are usually willing to push it through. I think it's pretty rare that Target won't sell something to you if it comes up as "item not found", but you'll most likely get to the 75% off price tag QUICKER if you TRY naming a fair price rather than having management involved. Just my 2 cents! -

Ya, typically the sticker can't be on the item if you are playing the "name your price" game! -

It seems completely stupid (pardon the bluntness) that Target would pull those Shutterfly boxes outta most of their stores (without going to 75% off) to give them all to Goodwill, who doesn't even have the technology to make them function. HELLOOOOO Target! Anyone home up there???? If I were Shutterfly, I'd be very PISSED OFF. They are most likely going to field a ton of calls from people wondering why they can't get their stuff to work. It's sad because it's not Shutterfly's fault. Heck for all they know some Joe Blow could have donated it to Goodwill. They don't have anyway of knowing FOR SURE that it came from a Target salvage drop. They don't have any way to verify that the access code wasn't scratched off and used already BEFORE it was purchased from Goodwill. When you buy those at Target, the activation code that scans on the receipt matches up with the last several numbers ON the Shutterfly box, so you have the receipt showing that YOU have the box that matches with the proof you paid for it. To me, it seems like Target should NOT be sending these out to Goodwill for unsuspecting people to purchase. It doesn't state anywhere on the box that this item must be activated at the time of purchase. So, nobody would know that unless you had purchased some at Target. -

I think I might try to work through Goodwill. They need to know that what they are selling requires an extra step. I don't know what the return policy is for Goodwill, but I might try to start there and if they can't (or refuse) to help, I'd contact Shutterfly and explain that you bought one of their products through Goodwill, but it won't work. At the least, it should raise a flag to Shutterfly that they will be getting a boat load of calls from others who will have problems too (if, in fact, Target is in the process of sending all these boxed goodies to the local Goodwill store). In the end, it's Shutterfly who will get the bad rap on this cause their name is on the product. -

On that note about the Shutterfly stuff. It makes me so nervous when people are having problems trying to use them. I have a TON of these books with no plans to use them all real soon (but definitely within the next 2 years). I will most likely go ahead and post most of them out to my Shutterfly account now, but some are going to be gifts for family members. So, I went through all my receipts and am going to store the receipts with the boxes, so in 9 months from now, if there is a problem, I have my receipt with the purchase and the activation code that matches the box. Shutterfly should accept that as legitimate proof since they made these things to be good for 2 years. -

I have never shopped at Goodwill, but do you remember when the cashier rang you out, did they scan the barcode on the BACK of the box (not the bottom)? Or how do they ring things out there? When you buy them at Target, they have to do TWO scans, one for the barcode on the bottom of the box and then again to activate it, they have to scan the long coded UPC on the BACK of the box. Goodwill should absolutely know what they need to do if they are going to sell these. You can't just slap a price tag on the box and ring it out manually at the register. There is NOTHING in the box except a code, which will be useless to you unless it is activated. -

If the store doesn't have any more that you can buy and then do the return switch a roo...I have had pretty good luck returning something late in the evening... maybe on a Sunday and then heading back to that same store first thing the next morning. Almost every time the item has been put back out on the shelf by then. Of course there are a lot of variables to that too. Would the people working that evening potentially be interested in what I am returning? Is that store pretty good at getting their "put backs" back out at the end of each day? And of course, you would probably want to make sure that the Target is fairly close so that you're not driving a huge distance for a "chance" at getting it. I am in a city and the drive to a Target store is basically on my way to everywhere. I find that during weekend evenings, it's mostly younger kids working and they are almost never in competition for what I am returning, but ya never know. If you REALLY want it, I'd keep it at 50% off if it were me. -

Did anyone on here happen to buy the Oregon Scientific globe (I think it is electronic) that was clearanced at Christmas. It was regular priced $89.99. I found one today (most likely a return) and it was a "name your price" situation. I told her that they were $21.48... (I think I was off by a dollar!) cause it was part of the 75% off sale. She gave it to me. It looks quite neat. Anyone know if it is a nice globe? I was very happy to find several of my Shutterfly stashes still where I put them. One store actually had them marked down 75% off. The other store showed item not found, but I got them for 75% off. The markdown guy at one store was taking them off the shelf and putting them into his cart. I knew better than to ask (given the consensus on this forum has mostly been that they are going salvage... plus this guy looked like he a big bowl of grumpy for breakfast and didn't want to be pestered). Picked up another 300 ounce Tide for $10. Now, my 3 little girls can get as dirty as they want. I think I found about 4 of those big boys this week, so I'm set on detergent for awhile! I've been seeing TONS of those crazy little christmas ponies with the santa hat for $1.74. Kind of silly that they just didn't clearance them at Christmas. I picked up about 5 tubes for gifts next year, but there were lots spread around at many of the stores I went to. -

Hit the jackpot on bulk items at one of the stores today. Most of the stores just had stuff here and there on an endcap, but this store had an entire aisle and they were marking some things straight from 15% to 50%. I got 300 ou. Tide containers for $10 (less all my tide coups). Ziploc bonus freezer bags, glad press and seal, clorox wipes, clorox hard surface cleaner, ziploc BIG bags, Tilex, Reynolds wrap, dawn dish soap. ALL of it was 1/2 price. I cleared out a bunch of my coupons too and used my 10% rewards today. -

That is a relief to hear. I noticed when I peaked in to Shutterfly a bit to see what they say about Target's affinity marketing program with Shutterfly that it appears you have to actually click into a special "Target Access Code" page, not just the regular special offers codes page. Maybe that is where things can get messed up. -

8 1/2 x 11 albums: 233 02 0256 (regular price $29.99) 8 x 8 albums: 233 02 0257 (reg price $29.99) Calendars: 233 02 0258 (reg price $19.99) Those are all I've bought at 50% off. I just called the one Target store that is usually really on the ball with their markdown teams. (They seem to get at them right away in the mornings.) Anyway, I gave customer service the dcpi for the calendar and it was still showing $9.98, so they haven't been marked down any further yet. I suppose it could still happen sometime today.... -

I went to a couple stores between 9 and 10 a.m. They were still 1/2 price. One of the stores that had several mugs/keychains/adventure books left just yesterday didn't have anything left, which makes me wonder if they pulled them. I have a couple albums hidden at that store and scanned them and they still scanned 1/2 price. I wonder if the stores will just pull them rather than mark them down any more. Didn't someone on this forum say that the electronics dept. wasn't going to be taking as much of their merchandise down past 50% anymore??? Hmmm. I've got lots of the 8 1/2 x 11 and 8x8 albums that I bought at 1/2, but would have picked up a few of the other things if I could have gotten them for 75% off. I never have great luck going too early in the morning though. Most of the markdown teams don't get started on stuff at most of our stores until at least 10ish, but I had a kickboxing class to get to! I may call since I'm not really in the mood to chase around to a lot of Target stores today. I have the DCPI numbers from the ones I already bought. If anyone else has a different story, please post!! -

Ya know it is quite likely that you will never find them in your store. If the people stocking them know the drill, they will likely be taken and purchased by the employees. I have seen some stores that just throw them back onto the juice box shelf with the other Minute Maid 15 packs, sitting them at the most easily accessible spot-- usually right in front. I have also seen stores where they are carefully hidden way in the back, as if someone stocking them either 1) thinks that they are suppose to stock from the back of the shelf forward or 2) (more likely) are trying to conceal them so that they can come back while on their break and buy them. So, if you are never finding them, you either need to dig a little deeper into the shelf and physically move the 15 packs outta your way to get to the back OR perhaps you are fighting a loosing battle against the employees (or other customers who are just one step ahead of you)! GOOD LUCK! When you find your first pack, break it open in the aisle and toast someone with your success. (but don't let them in on the secret)! -

Good luck. I'm anxious to hear how you come out. I have several of these and was going to give some to my sister. I will need to make sure and get them "posted" out to our Shutterfly account sooner rather than later if there is a problem like this. I wonder if this is just anomaly or something that is happening often with these box sets??! -

I noticed that they had lots of them stocked in the tool aisle at regular price in the "true" black and decker colors (orange and black). They are $19.99. I think I would even pay that much for them. Not sure what the deal was with the colored ones that I found... must have been a decorative series they tried or something. When I first heard the ladies on the View talking about them, I went out and tried to find some, but couldn't find them anywhere. 'Course we are in the middle of the country, so it always takes a bit for things to "find" their way here! -
