  1. Always hoping for some really good deals - not only for famly gifts but to give to foster kids and others in need.
  2. a New Mexico tradition..... Biscochitos Cookies 5 to 6 cups all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon baking powder ¼ teaspoon salt 1 pound lard, at room temperature 1 cup granulated sugar 3 large eggs 1½ tablespoons ground anise seeds ½ cup orange juice, fresh or from concentrate 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) whiskey Topping ¼ cup granulated sugar ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon For the cookies Preheat oven to 425° F. Sift together 5 cups flour, baking powder, and salt. Beat lard in electric mixer, gradually adding sugar until extremely light and fluffy; about 8 minutes. Stop mixer every couple minutes to scrape down sides of mixing bowl. Add eggs singly, beating in each one before adding the next. Mix in dry ingredients, beating only until incorporated. Add anise seeds, whiskey, and orange juice. A stiff, pie-crust–like dough is what you’re after. Add some or all of remaining flour, as needed, to get proper consistency. Spoon dough into cookie press, if you wish. Push out dough into shaped cookies on ungreased cookie sheets. If you don’t have a cookie press or prefer to make them with cookie cutters, the dough can be rolled out ¼ inch thick on floured work surface and cut into favorite shapes, then arranged on cookie sheets. In either case, avoid handling the dough more than necessary. Bake cookies 12 to 15 minutes. For the topping While cookies bake, stir together topping ingredients. Assembly Transfer cookies to baking racks to cool. Gently roll cookies in topping mixture. If not eaten sooner, cookies will keep a week. https://www.newmexico.org/nmmagazine/articles/post/bizcochito-recipe-83756/
  3. I have a spouse and kid who LOVE Legos - and since spouse is a retired Coastie I know this kit would be an amazing thing for either of them to open. 4. A drumstick. As in for a drum. Not a pair. Just *A* drumstick. Kids are weird.
  5. Well, I didn't wind up doing any actual Friday shopping. At about 9pm Thursday we decided we'd try JCPenney to see about the colorful knife set they had advertised. The mall store was packed and they had displays jamming every aisle - it was crazy even that long after they had opened. Quickly realized that this store does not carry household stuff - they have another store a few blocks away that does all the home goods. So we walked across the hallfor a quick look at Macys. They were pretty busy, but not too crazy (except the shoes area). But they were out of the base layer underwear that my son wants. So I wound up not buying at either place and we were there less than 30 minutes. Left the mall and went to the Pennys home store. There were about 10 other people there. LOL. We got the knives we were after (oh, and found out about a rebate to boot!... even cheaper), picked up some of the 2.99 pillows, and decided to get the cast iron skillet set they had on sale as well. Took about ... 10 minutes. That was that. We headed home. Just about everything else BF related that I was after I had already purchased online late Wednesday night when sales went live. I did get online when we got back from Penneys to see if I could find the doorbuster base layer things at Macys. Score for me - they had them in stock! Got those and a couple other clothing things for gifts. Easy peasy.
  6. Dangit ... forgot the Rubbermaid and Sharpies the first time - that's ok though... got back in and ordered without problem.
  7. Select Black Friday items are available now - but I'm also not finding when their official sale starts
  8. Got my package today - thanks Brad! Love the beanie... going to wear it tomorrow. And a $5 gift card
  9. In the past Home Depot and other businesses have offered a discount on new energy efficient / LED holiday lights if you bring in strands of the older lights. So far this year I have not seen anything like this being advertised.... Has anyone heard if any of the major places are doing something like this?
  10. We bought a Kenmore front loader a few years ago - not what you're after - but I wanted to say I was SO DISAPPOINTED in the product. First they didn't deliver when they were supposed to. Then, after having it for less than two months the mother board on the control panel went out. Customer service to get that fixed was a freaking nightmare - even though we were well within the warranty period and had also purchased the extended warranty. Finally got the computer issue fixed by having the entire washer replaced - but it took calling the corporate headquarters to make that happen. I hated the thing anyway - once started you couldn't pause it... it had to be turned all the way off and then on again. The load function choices were limited and difficult to change too - for example you couldn't just get it to rinse and spin. When we moved we got rid of those stupid things and bought a standard top-loader from Lowes - or maybe it was Home Depot. I think its a GE or LG... I'd have to check. Anyway, nothing fancy. Basic wash cycles, no special bins or steam or any of that. Manual controls rather than computer/electric things. I had gone to Sears just to price items and they were easily $200 more for their version of a basic washer. No thanks.

  18. And if she is young enough not to notice or care - Target has some nice dolls that are the same size with all kinds of accessories for a fraction of the AG cost.
  19. I found a nearly new AG doll at a yard sale - you might cruise the thrift stores and craigslist to see if you can find a gently loved one who needs a new home.

  21. Sheets .. sad but true .. this is the time of year I get new ones. But none of my usual sources have what I want on sale. Waiting for the Macy's ad too..
