if it is from you, and not santa, check freecycle... seriously... the portable ones are put up all the time on ours... (we have 2 hoops along our driveway.... one is set to regulation for my 8th grader, the other is at its lowest point for our 4-yo-friend :)

DD got a fender. we ended up buying a starter pack locally... same price as amazon, and supported the local music shop. quality instrument, reasonable price, no issue.

Just got back from a weekend trip.. stopped at ON... big hits: $1.50 plain tee kids can wear for band, 3$ zip hoodie for DH, 2$ baseball shirt for DH, 3$ fleece for DS and the classic lunchboxes - tootsie roll, Orange Crush, Dr. Pepper, Sugar Daddie, and more, for 2$ (originally 10) the real metal lunch boxes! Yay!

depending on what you needed to keep on, and what you were willing to rotate, you could keep apps, movies, etc on your computer's HD and put them on as you need them... this would allow you to rotate games, movies, tv shows etc, so he would not get bored.

Ok, you can make excuses for the website being wrong - but come on, your own freaking sign? I'd be ticked off too.

while your goal is noble, remember, too, that being self centered at 8 is normal. It takes a while to become more sensative to the needs of others. Your making an effort to teach them will help them along this path. Charitable goals mean the most if they are something the kids can relate to.... so my kids understood early on, that everyone needs to be warm, and have something to eat..... Even if *you* don't belong to a church, they could still particiapte it charitable events sponsered by local churches....

I work with one of DS' teachers DH... so I asked him what his wife likes... nice to have an inside track... by kid is as subtle as a barn.
