I really like my 50" LG plasma. Saw it compared in the store with every major brand, and it has the best picture of all of them except the Pioneer Elite, especially with SD channels (which 90% of TV still is).

I have to agree with the consensus...the killer deals really seem to be lacking this year. I haven't seen anything yet that would entice me to wait in line for hours to get. Of course, I bought lots of new "toys" during this year...new 50" plasma, new laptop, etc. so there isn't much I "need." Would like to see a killer deal on a good wireless-N router, some lightscribe disks (for the drive in the new laptop). From what I've seen so far, for the most part there's been comparable deals periodically for the past couple months. I'll probably just plan on being there when the store(s) open.

They are the Army and Air Force Exchange stores. They are on military bases (have to have a military ID to shop there).

Here's the link they refer to with all the "fine print." Price Match Fine Print Buried in it is that it it does not apply to limited quantities, and it has to be in stock at the other store.

I posted this on another thread, but it answers your question directly: <<In today's hectic world, there only about two days that people pause and take a break from the madness - Thanlsgiving and Christmas. They are the two days each year that at least in my case the family can get togther, visit, work together on the dinner, and just enjoy each other's company. Even Easter has kind of lost this purpose, at least in our area. On Thanksgiving itself, I may hit Kmart real early if they have something good, but the rest of the day is family time. I'm sorry, but there's no bargain that BB or WM could offer that would make me consider giving up my Thanksgiving to wait 12+ hours in line for.>> I know on this forum this will be considered heresy, but some things are just more important than saving a few bucks. Family and family traditions are one.

I sacrifice some sleep and usually a pretty good chunk of money. However, there's one thing I won't sacrifice - my Thanksgiving with my family. The 1GB of extra RAM would probably cost more than that. The one that has 1GB is 2 sticks of 512MB. To get up to 2 GB, you'd have to buy 2 sticks of 1 GB of RAM. The thing I like most about the CC one is that it has the wireless-N card. Wireless-N isn't widely available yet, but it keeps the laptop from needing another upgrade in a little while.

Not that I'm a big fan of Circuit City, but for $150 more (AR) you can get this one: • AMD Turion™ 64 X2 • Built-in wireless 802.11a/b/g/n • Burns DVDs and CDs• 160GB hard drive • 2GB of DDR2 memory • Built-in webcam Better processor, double the RAM, and has the next generation "n" wireless card. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/HP-Pavilion-15-4-Widescreen-Laptop-PC-DV6646US/sem/rpsm/oid/191730/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do But I'm starting to hate rebates (seems like you always have to "fight" to actually get them nowadays), so will probably wait until Best Buy puts a similar one on sale without the rebating hassle.

Walmart to discontinue some stores Fabric Departments
ObiRich replied to kjunea's topic in Offline Hot Deals
I'm not sure Walmart is doing away with them altogether. My wife works for one in the area, and they are openning up a new Supercenter. In that store they are not having a "service" fabric department; all the fabric will be pre-cut and pre-packaged. Kind of like they do with the meat on the grocery side...it comes in all packaged, so don't need onsite butchers anymore. -
Coupon in today's ad...ad is available online here: http://www.officedepot.com/index.do

I don't know if others are running into the same thing as me, but I'm really starting to get disgusted with rebating. It seems like every rebate I've submitted in recent memory has been a serious hassle. 1. I sent in for a $100 rebate on an LG Plasma TV I bought in August. After waiting my 8 weeks, I emailed them asking where the check was. They assured me they had the rebate and I would get the check soon. Two weeks later...no check, so another email. Took 2 weeks after that one to get the check...12 weeks when the form said 8. 2. Sent in for a $25 rebate on a hard drive enclosure. The status on the website said "accepted and pending payment" on 8/24. About the end of October, emailed for updated status...after several days response was "accepted and pending payment." On Vet's day (11/11) finally had an opportunity to call (they had very limited CS hours), and was told there must have been a problem...will forward to accounting to get it done. On BF, still had no check, so called again. Finally, seems someone knew what to do. Got the check 10 days later. (almost 15 weeks after submission). 3. Recently send in a rebate for a hard drive. Waited a month, visited the website for a status check, and it couldn't find it! Emailed and asked for a status and was told to wait 8 weeks from submission before asking! I think to myself, "Self, why have a website for status if it won't give you the status." It just seems like I have to track and work way too hard to get rebates. I've actually started avoiding deals that require rebates, even if it means I have to pay a little more in the long run. It just doesn't seem be be worth the hassle anymore....

Anyone get the 42" Sylvania Plasma TV for $799 at Big Lots?
ObiRich replied to rdtsmith's topic in Offline Hot Deals
The thing to note is that it's an EDTV (Enhanced Definition). It would have a slightly better picture than standard TV, but is NOT a true High Definition. Personally, I wouldn't consider it for that reason alone. -
Not I!!!

Westinghouse 42" Flat-Panel LCD HD Monitor $899.99 - BestBuy.com
ObiRich replied to a topic in Online Hot Deals
Not quite the same...it's a "monitor." It doesn't have built in tuners, so you'll need either a satellite or cable box to get a signal to it. -
Doubt it. I tried to have Staples PM an all in one from CC last year and was turned down. If they do, the price would be adjusted (rebates included) to the bottom line BB price.

Got the camcorder this morning...shipping was about $6.00

Ah, the joys of home delivery:gdevil:

I don't think WM (or any other B&M) retailer will PM on online purchases. And to get WM to PM it, wouldn't you have to have either bought it at WM and then found it cheaper elsewhere? And as far as BB goes, their ad says they won't PM of earlybird items.

ta..ta..ta..ta...da..da... CHARGE IT!!! Cash back credit card I pay off every month.

If it's a DVD recorder, I got one last year at Walmart on BF. I didn't get there until about 9:30 (had other, higher priority targets), and didn't expect to find any, but they had a bunch left. In fact more than 1 Walmart in our area had some left 2-3 days AFTER BF and were still selling them for the BF price. Bottom line is that even if you don't get the "doorbuster" BF deal, the others that are on sale then will be cheaper than they are now (even at the current sale prices).
-
If they are Christmas presents, it's WAY TOO EARLY to buy them. Prices on electronics go down all the time. Prime example...been watching for a 27" LCD TV for DD. Stopped into Walmart, and prices have dropped on them about $100 in the past month-6 weeks. So I would wait, but get it probably as soon as possible after BF.

Hit Staples first, as they had the most items I wanted. Picked up a HP PSC2610 all in one. Circuit City had them too, and at a better overall price, but as I said, Staples had more items I was wanting. Really wanted 2, as I wanted one for me and one for my daughter. Got out of there about 7:30, and decided to go by CC just to check. The huge crowd was gone, so scoured the store, and they were gone. Another guy was looking for them too. I hunted down a clerk, and asked him to check in back. He said he would, but wasn't sure where they would be, as he didn't normally work in the back. Came back empty handed, and just then he bumped into one of the warehouse guys. They conferred, he went back to the back, and came out with one! The LAST one. The other guy looked at me, I looked at him, and then he said "well, you got the guy so it's yours." Said Thanks, and beat feet for the checkout.

Ford Military Appreciation Program $500
ObiRich replied to Gunnershorthair's topic in Offline Hot Deals
Would be nicer if they gave it to retirees also. Give 20+ years, and get told that doesn't count. -
On two recent trips, the best rates I got were from calling Enterprise and not off the website. On one occasion, I got a mid-size for $12 a day, and on the other I got a full size (brand new Impala, only 16 miles on it) for $16. Made the reservations only about 2-3 days before I needed them.
