Quite a few of our faculty tried to get exceptions, because they believed it would affect performance (true) or they didn't like the monitoring, but over on the Medical School side, that's a non-starter - too much patient data that could possibly be stolen from a laptop or phone. We require encryption and backups.

With the pushing, crowds, and early hours, it's pretty equivalent. Probably worse for your husband - I hated waiting in corrals, creeping towards the start, and then people behind me taking off in a flash, as I thought "whoa people, 13 miles to go."
-
It's really more the abuse and cycles you put on it - we have backup and encryption requirements that really drain the life on the machines (although as a side note, I purchased my last MacBook pro after the three year term to use as my personal computer, and it's operating just fine, ONCE i took all the backup and encryption software off.)

I'm more annoyed it's October. September went by in a blur. Now we start the countdown to our winter break in December!

The funny thing is where I work, we would love to have the Lenovo contract back. We're buying Dells and the failure rate is kinda atrocious just in my office alone. *hugs her MacBook Pro harder*

I am half tempted to get an Alexa and the Samuel L Jackson add on voice, explicit version.

I had an aunt once wrap it inside a box with rocks to deceive you.

Good thoughts for you - resilience comes in many forms, I hope that it will guide you through this year.

I need August to end so I can get to September and my work life can calm down for two seconds.

Prime Day reportedly starting July 15th
freesia39 replied to Brad's topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion
So for those of you who heavily use the Whole Foods app with your prime account connected, if you spent at least $10, you get $10 to spend on Prime Day. Seriously, Whole Foods savings is subsidizing my prime account at this rate. -
I've been asked to quite a few random census surveys lately. They are the american community survey, where they get more detailed information on demographics in areas. Then we received follow up surveys, targeting those who I think completed the ACS and noted they were a college graduate, asking even more detailed info. I filled them out (even without threat of penalty) as one of the groups I work with does research on the data (de-identified, obviously, trying to look at trends through all the data sets to explain changes in society.) Good times. Please do these surveys.

I have one from a day conference I attended. The concept is great - the quality of the one I got was eh - they're kinda flimsy (necessary in order to fold into the pouch.) If you're not bringing anything heavy AND not overstuffing it, it's a good beach backpack.

And if you all say "and get the bags in pink!" I'll tear my hair out.

ding ding ding.

I really wonder how their cost analysis works on moving it to one day. Some of my deliveries are done by what I swear are doordash or uber drivers between trips - not UPS or USPS - and I wonder if that is keeping their costs down. Me: Just don't change my Whole Foods discounts.

I can't believe it's halfway through April. I thought this year just started.

I'm a few days late, but Happy Lunar New Year! May the Year of the Pig bring you good fortune and prosperity.

Ok, so at 8am i started writing a RIP Sears post, and now I see they will survive for now.

I don't go back til Monday! I'm gonna enjoy the quiet in the malls and restaurants for a few days!

Happy new year! And a float was on fire in the Rose Parade.

THREE MORE WEEKS OF WORK THIS YEARRRRRRRR.

Wait, my GD bags are 10 years old? I still use them when I go to Costco. (i've since purchased machine washable reusable bags for the grocery store.)

We don't have any in the charts, but I suspect Amazon may put up a few as a deal over the course of the day.

Oooh. I insured my engagement ring, because I'm terrified of this happening as well.
