I actually picked up the down alternative comforter in store. (well my husband did.) Now I need to go find a duvet.

I've done something similar at the Apple Store and at Macy's. Even crazier at the Apple Store (wonder if they still have this) is that if it's under 100 bucks, I was able to scan and pay by my phone (can't remember how but it charged my apple account) without even talking to an employee.

Nah the industry isn't the same. The $500 doesn't go to you, it goes to the firm. Wal-Mart doesn't hire a local one person firm to do this type of work - they have a big boy on retainer. Even though Jr. Associates at big firms make quite a bit, you have to consider: 1. Their debt load is probably pushing 200k 2. Their quality of life is awful - billing expectations of 2000 hours per year, which means you're probably actually working 2500+. If you don't hit the numbers, you're gone. 3. Burnout is real. Most people I knew lasted 2-3 years, or hopefully just enough to pay off their loans. I don't recommend law school to most people, unless you can go for free to a big name school. And the next kid that tells me that "law school will provide them security" I want to sit them down and go "oh child, let's tell you some stories."

Most international flights will have screens in the seatback. It's domestic flights I've seen planes without screens (i.e. Southwest, Alaska if it's a non Virgin-America plane) I'm pretty sure my mom used her ipad in China, but if you preload everything you shouldn't have a problem, since you're not using data. A kindle fire would work. Just make sure you bring the right power converter.

Considering the last time I made mini cheesecakes, I beat that cream cheese by hand. Loved the result, hated how much stupid time it took to beat by hand.
-
Wait, do you want a device that works with the inflight entertainment, or something that you could load your own entertainment on? Are you flying Southwest, Alaska? (I think both of those use gogo)

Truthfully, the letter takes no time to draft. It's a pretty generic letter, they use the same format, they probably send it to multiple sites, so it takes very little effort, in the overall view of their legal expenses. A junior associate probably charged $500/hour for 1-2 hours of work.

So the immersion part would only be used for soups and things a recipe says "use an immersion blender to blend." It's the whisk attachment that makes me go "hmm." If I wanted to mix cream cheese for cheesecake, or beat egg whites to stiff peaks,

That's pretty much a white elephant gift exchange. Also how many people are at your holiday party? The games I've had to come up with are for about 70 people. It's different when it's just my small team of 8, where we usually do a white elephant.

So I don't have a hand mixer - would the immersion blender with the whisk attachment work as a good alternative? EDIT: also decent deal if you're in the market for a new desk - the power sit/stand desk. Considering the ones we buy at work (obviously they're bigger) run us 2k plus, this is a good home office desk one. If I worked at home more (and had space), I'd seriously consider it.

I've done "name that holiday tune" - I clipped the songs using iTunes, whipped up a quick powerpoint to present the game and people had to work together at their tables to write down the name and artist. I've also done "holiday movie trivia" and I picked some super obscure questions to make it difficult. We've also played "musical gifts" - pick a "gift" from the centerpiece, and move it around the table. When the music stops, if you're holding it, you're out. Keep going until there's two people left and whoever is the last one holding it wins. You could also do this with gift wrapped items - play the music, person unwraps one layer, and whoever gets the final layer to unwrap wins.

PlayStation Classic - is this going to be a hot item this year?
freesia39 replied to shopping4my3son's topic in 2018
Classic FFVII? The original was on PlayStation. -
We kinda talk about cameras here: http://forums.gottadeal.com/topic/286646-official-black-friday-smart-home-discussion-thread/ What do you want your outdoor cameras to do?

I wonder if people would want a black friday podcast - listen on your time, unfortunately questions would be delayed.

PlayStation Classic - is this going to be a hot item this year?
freesia39 replied to shopping4my3son's topic in 2018
Personally I'm waiting for a gameboy classic. DO IT NINTENDO. And yes, I don't think it'll drop the price on a PS4 - they're different systems. -
The absolute star of my cookies last year was a cranberry-orange meltaway cookie: https://cookiesandcups.com/orange-cranberry-meltaway-cookies/ I've made it a few times since then, and received rave reviews each time. Orange and cranberry is such a great holiday combo. I made them iced and non-iced, both versions are great.

Data collection. ALLLLLL the data collection on your buying habits. (I use Apple Pay quite a bit, so if I actually shopped at WalMart then this isn't a huge culture shift in payment, but it's the registering a card through another app that's a meh experience, when I already have them loaded on my phone.)

Heh, now that I look at it, it looks like when I'm trying to format text on top of an image in word using text boxes and word goes "NOPE I'M MOVING EVERYTHING TO THE SIDES"

There are studies that have said this - the longer kids are out for the summer, they are unable to retain what they learned because they are unable to use those skills for two months. Now people are always quick to jump to the downside - with a shorter summer break, there are fewer opportunities to vacation in the summer, there are fewer camps/activities during the year to keep kids occupied if they're off an extra two weeks in October, teachers don't have an opportunity to get an actual break and spend the time refreshing their curriculum or other professional development - but it's not a terrible thing to consider, or at least review more studies on areas that have switched to these calendars.

DARNIT I didn't pay attention to that one. I did enjoy 10% at Whole Foods last week with the Amazon Prime card.
-
!!! If you spend at least $10 at Whole Foods leading up to Prime Day, you get $10 to spend on Prime Day! (you will obviously need to be signed in via the WF app and scan it at the register.)

It's not scammers you have to worry about - it's pickpockets. They will come up to you, distract you, and then someone else will try to lift right out of your bag. My examples: - My friend and I were in Paris, at the Eiffel Tower in the gift shop. We know better than to leave valuables in the actual back of our backpacks. Someone was rifling in the back of her backpack as she was leaned over looking at something on a shelf. - Walking along the Seine, there's a family in front of us. The mom is wearing a backpack that doesn't zip - it just has an awful clasp that kind of closes the bag, but not really - you can just put a hand in there and grab ANYTHING you'd like - all of a sudden I hear "I think my wallet has been nicked." yuuuuup. Other example I've heard: - Riding the subway, and as the train is about to stop, a group rushes my friend's friend who is standing near the door, snatch his wallet and disappear through the closing doors. SO basically, just be careful. Be aware of your surroundings. Do not give money to anyone asking for it. Don't put your wallet in areas that are easily accessible (for example I had mine in a zippered compartment hidden inside my bag.)

Tons yesterday at the various stores around here.

For those of you interested on how being a Prime member and shopping at Whole Foods works: 1. Download the Whole Foods App. 2. Sign in with your Amazon log in and password. 3. It will generate a QR code for you to present to the cashier to scan for your discounts. 4. You get an extra 10% on anything on "sale" or anything that is price marked with a yellow tag in store. So this week, 90/10 ground beef was on sale for 4.99/lb, so I got another 50 cents off. 5. They also have special "prime member only" sales each week. For example, this week I was able to get Back to Nature crackers for 2/$5.00. Other sales I had this week - organic raspberries for 2.50, 365 Everyday Sparkling water BOGO Free at 3.99, and tail-on white shrimp, 31/40 ct for 12.99/pound (compared to 19.99/pound.) Everyone had new blue prime aprons in the checkout, and they had someone walking around asking if you were a prime member, if you had the WF app, and how to sign up. A dollar here and there per week does make up for the $20 increase, IF you are a regular shopper at Whole Foods.
