I adopt a military family through Operation Outreach a project through Soldiers' Angels. They suggest spending $20-50 per child and then $50-100 on a grocery gift certificate. Last year I had a single dad with a three year old and spent about $175 total. That included gifts for the boy, dad, and the grocery gift card. I'm sure the children will be thankful for whatever gifts they have to unwrap.
  11. I would dress up as a shadow. I could then sneak right on in and be at the registers before anyone realized it!
  12. How about a basket of goodies. You can put her favorite treats in there. Also, put in a small memories box. Ask family members to write down a favorite memory that they shared with your grandmother. Place them all in the box and add to the basket. I'm sure she will love the walk down memory lane. I know a lot of people go through bouts of depression as they age and this might be a small way to help her combat it.

  16. Black Friday kicks off the official Christmas season for us!
  17. We might be in our first home by then so we are looking at appliances this year. We are good on electronics so we will probably roam around for DVD's and board games.
  18. I knew my husband would be going to school and changing careers this year so I've been saving a little at a time. I have a list of people we will buy for and some ideas of what they might like. It will be scaled down from last year though.
  19. When I was a kid Santa left one unwrapped gift with a tag that said "From Santa". That happened until my brother busted "Santa"!
  20. We do a glazed ham and all of our favorite sides.
  21. I have had three issues with Best Buy in the last two weeks. Two in store pick ups in two different stores were a fiasco. There was no sort of organization just a big pile of merchandise behind the counter for the employees to dive into. Both stores ended up pulling our orders from the floor. We were the only person in line at both stores and it took 40 minutes at the first and over an hour at the second. Our third problem was a TV delivery to my grandmother. This actually is probably UPS's fault. They delivered to a house with the same last name several of blocks over. They left it under their carport. Luckily they were honest and looked up my grandmothers phone number from the delivery info and gave her a call to pick it up. I haven't had issues with them in the past but DANG!
  22. It will be a split between cash and debit card for us this year.
