  1. Don't feel too bad about missing out on this set. I bought the 5pc version of this set last year and ended up returning it before using it due to its thin fabric (it's only 600 denier) and flimsy construction. It wasn't even as well constructed as the cheapo $39.99 set a bought a few years ago at Office Depot on Black Friday. Get at least a 1200 denier set if you do anything more than day trips.
  2. ALL Halloween was 50% off today at my Target, including candy.
  3. The $10 coupon worked for me today at Walmart on the regular DVD package (not the blu ray combo). $5.97 plus tax after coupon.
  4. Why don't you just save the pdf to your hard drive instead of doing all that? I find it easiest just just to create a folder call "Black Friday Ads 2009" and download all the adscans into it. That way who cares if the adscans get taken down later, or the url is removed.
  5. Gee, I wonder what all those teams have in common?
  6. I don't read it that way at all, and nowhere in the post did he call her a moron (you did). I think you're reading way too much into his comments. If my wife was pregnant I wouldn't want her fighting the crazies out there on BF either. Even huge strong healthy men have been killed during BF stampedes (see Walmart), so I definitely wouldn't want to see a pregnant woman caught in that melee!
  7. The site is getting hammered since this deal was also posted on several other deal sites early this morning. It also has way too much flash content to load speedily on all the visitors' computers.
  8. Yes! The one on sale now for $349 has an Intel Celeron processor and I'm quite sure at least one store (probably more) will have one with an Intel dual core processor for that price or less on BF.
  9. Or perhaps the NON-EVENT if their BF ad is not very good!
  10. I doubt you could get one as described for $400, but $500-$600 may not be completely impossible this holiday season.
  11. You obviously don't know the typical REGULAR Best Buy customer very well!
  12. Walmart might become a major competitor in terms of units sold or total dollar sales in Electronics, but the two companies cater to a different clientele. Most people I know that are regular Best Buy shoppers probably wouldn't even set foot inside a Walmart, much less buy electronic equipment from them.
  13. Ours has been opening at 6am on BF since it opened for business eight years ago.
  14. Sorry to hear about your problems with the power port, perhaps you just got a lemon. I have two Acers that are a little over a year old and I've had zero problems with them. I also bought my daughter one last year for Christmas and it has been problem-free as well.
  15. I think a major factor in the lackluster Best Buy ads lately has been the lack of major competition as more retailers go out of business (for example, Circuit City). I don't see any new competitors popping up before BF so I'm not expecting Best Buy to run a killer ad and destroy its gross margins.
  16. I got the coupon to work and even got an emailed order confirmation, but then I received an email from eforcity saying my order is "under review". I have a strong hunch all these free orders will soon be canceled.
  17. That's the lowest price I've seen on a core2duo laptop from a major manufacturer. It's a great deal for someone that needs a laptop right now, but if you don't need one right away you might as well wait until October 22nd and get one with W7 already installed.
  18. Walmart hasn't had a great BF ad in over five years. I would be very surprised if this years ad breaks that streak!
  19. If this year's Walmart BF ad is anything like the ones from the last few years, then they can wait until AFTER Black Friday to release it as far as I'm concerned. They really need to funnel some of the money they spend on their legal department on hiring someone in marketing who knows what an exciting Black Friday ad looks like.
  20. Yes, it's an excellent price for a very good 42" plasma ( I have one). Plasmas are not for everyone, but if you take the time to break them in properly during the first 200 hours and calibrate them correctly you will have a great picture for a long time.
  21. I would like to see such data if you access to it. Even if I ignore both my personal and work experience in IT resolving trouble tickets from all the major brands, objective third party information doesn't support your assertion. As a matter of fact, the latest PC magazine Reliability Survey published just earlier this year shows just the opposite. When all notebooks are taken into account, Dell ranks ahead of HP, and LoneStarMama's beloved HP was rated as being "Significantly worse than average". When only business notebooks were taken into account, Dell still ranked ahead of HP in terms of reliability. If you don't believe any of this you're more than welcomed to visit PC Mag's website and view the results for yourself. In case people reading this thread want to know, the top four brands in terms of reliability were Apple, Asus, Sony, and Lenovo. HP ranked at the bottom or next to last in every notebook category. Having said all this, I will repeat what I said earlier about the individual user being a greater determining factor than brand when it comes to reliability. The overwhelming majority of trouble tickets that are opened by our corporate users and my team and I have to resolve turn out to have been caused by operator error, not hardware or software. And in case anyone thinks I'm just sticking up for Dell, I will tell you that in addition to my Dell computers I also own several Lenovo Thinkpads and Acer Extensas. Every single one regardless of brand has been trouble-free since the day I bought them, proving at least to me that preventive maintenance and careful operation are more important than brand.
  22. Wait until all those employees have had enough time to screw up their new HP computers and then we'll see if the empirical data supports your husband's generalization. As someone who has to deal with corporate user computer screwups on a daily basis and has had to repair computers from all the major manufacturers, I can tell you that his generalization doesn't hold water.
  23. Meaningless for a couple of reasons. The decision to switch "tens of thousands" was more than likely a financial decision, and secondly, any company that has that many computers most likely also has "tens of thousands" of users that screw up their computers due to either risky computing behavior or lack of expert computer knowledge. HP is no improvement over Dell.
  24. Your husband needs to stop making such generalizations based on his opinion. I own seven Dell computers ranging in age from eight years to less than a year old. All are still operational and used daily by different family members, and all have been problem-free since day one. When it comes to computer reliability and longevity I find that the USER is a much greater determining factor than the manufacturer.
