  1. They were already out on an endcap and available for sale at $34.88 went I was in Walmart this morning. It seems that not all Walmarts are waiting until October 1st to put out their ad shipment. I bought one for my granddaughter and resisted the temptation to buy any for resale. It just doesn't feel right to me to hoard any toys for personal profit when there are so many kids out there probably begging their parents for an Elmo TMX this Christmas.
  2. I won't go near a Walmart on BF! I hit the electronic and office supply stores, then Home Depot if they have something I need or want. I leave the Walmart madness to my wife and her equally-crazy shopping buddies. I'm usually home by 11am, ready to watch the annual LSU-Arkansas football game (which usually ends up determining whether LSU or Auburn wins the SEC West title).
  3. I got the Ryobi 18V cordless screwdriver and flashlight combo last year at Home Depot for $29.99 on BF (regularly $99.99). I use the screwdriver on a regular basis and I only have to charge the battery once a month. Awesome deal on a very reliable and useful powertool, and the bonus flashlight is pretty nice too!
  4. I use competitors' pharmacy coupons at Target on a regular basis and I've never had any problems as long as the prescription being filled was a new or transferred prescription. The only glitch I've encountered is that they will accept competitor coupons only up to $25.00, so if you use a $30.00 CVS coupon they'll give you a $25.00 Target giftcard.
  5. There can be variations even within the same city since most national retail chains only dictate to the local stores what the "minimum" hours have to be on Black Friday. Store managers are usually given the discretion of opening earlier or staying open later if they wish to do so. An agressive manager that wants to get a jump on the competition will throw the doors open earlier than the company-mandated time, so be sure to ask a member of management a couple of days before Thanksgiving what time they plan to open on BF.
  6. An Office Depot employee on another site mentioned that OD will have the Olevia 32" LCD HDTV that was on sale last week for $699 as a doorbuster on Black Friday for $500. He posted no proof of this, just said that the info was based on inside knowledge.
  7. Day 3 laptop deal is the E1505 for $699.
  8. I think they're clearing the summers aisles to make room for the incoming Back-to-School supplies.
  9. If your Target is anything like ours was today, there won't be anything left at 75% by tomorrow. The Random Acts of Summer aisles were packed with customers and most shoppers had two or three shopping carts loaded with this clearance stuff.
  10. I can confirm that the Random Acts of Summer stuff is indeed 75%off or more. I just got back from my local target with a carload of chairs, tents, air mattresses, camping stoves, luggage, bowls, plates, glasses, beach toys, etc. Some of the stuff actually rang up more than 75%off. We bought over $500worth of stuff for just $115! Hurry before it's all gone!
  11. The better deal is not going to happen! Other than display items, they're not marking down anything else. The boxed merchandise on the shelves is simply being transferred to other Officemax locations that are not closing.
  12. They closed all the Mervyns locations in Louisiana in January.
  13. I signed up for this free subscription offer back in January and yesterday I received an e-mail informing me that due to the supply of free subscriptions running out I would not be receiving PC World. It asked me to select one of three other magazines instead, also at no charge. I was disappointed in the news, but I went ahead and selected an alternative complimentary subscription. Imagine my surprise today when I opened my mailbox and there was my first complimentary issue of PC World! I wonder if they're also going to send me the other complimentary subscription I was asked to select?
  14. I went today to the OfficeMax near me that is closing and the only thing they had marked down were the floor samples. Even though today was their last day the markdowns were not very impressive and I didn't pick up anything. The manager told me everything that is still in its original packaging is simply being transferred to other nearby OfficeMax stores rather than being marked down. They were almost finished boxing and palletizing everything that was being transferred by the time I left the store. I asked him if the management staff and sales associates were being transferred as well to other stores and he replied that they were NOT, that they were simply told they would no longer be employed after today. I wished them all good luck in their new job hunt and possible major career changes.
  15. I just bought the Evenflo BabyGo SmartStep portable playard/changing table/bassinet combo for $22.48 (75% off). It was the last one in the box, but they still had some strollers and diaper bags at 75%off. Better hurry because there isn't much left!
  16. I would have to agree with what that store manager told you. The store closest to me is one of the ones slated for closing and so far they're not running any special sales that are different from what the rest of the company is advertising.
  17. Targets in the New Orleans metro area went to 75% off today on all holiday merchandise, but the signs still say 50% ( I guess the employees didn't get around to changing the signs before the store opened)! Last year Targets in this area didn't go to 75% until January 2nd so I was pleasantly surprised today when it was all scanning at 75% off.
  18. They keep saying on the local news that less than half of the pre-Katrina New Orleans metro-area residents have returned, yet traffic seems to have doubled. Worse, there is no longer a morning rush hour and an evening rush hour; it's rush hour all day long! The only explanation I can think of is that since there are fewer residents the extra traffic must be due to out-of-owners sent here to work after Katrina (insurance adjustors, contractors, relief workers, etc.) Since they're not as familiar with the roads as the locals perhaps they drive slower while looking for certain addresses or trying to figure out where they're at or where they're going.
  19. Are you sure it was the same drill? The Home Depot ad I saw said the regular price on the drill was $39.99, not $75.00.
  20. If you knew your family always went out of town for Thanksgiving why did you wait until one week before the holiday to tell your boss you would not be there? Seasonal hiring usually begins a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving and employers need to know how many of their regular employees will be there in order to determine how many temps to hire. If their policy was to require everyone to work on BF you should have told your boss as soon as the job offer was made and then left it up to him/her to decide if they still wanted to employ you.
  21. Good luck trying to get someone at Wal-Mart to answer the phone on BF, or actually check on a specific item if you're lucky enough to have someone answer the phone!
  22. Lying wouldn't work with most retailers since that's a "blackout" date (cannot be requested off). Most retailers would require you to bring a doctor's note if you called out sick or you would be subject to disciplinary action.
