How low do you think the computers at Staples will go?
nirvana4all replied to kourtnie's topic in 2007
Viewed from that point of view, you are using it correctly. The problem I see it how it is used on the uninformed masses: Computer 1: CPU, hard drive, memory, etc @~ 4.5, plop in a decent video card w/4.5 rating = VEI score of 4.5 Computer 2: CPU, etc @~ 5.0 and up, Video card (probably on board) @ 3.8 = VEI score of 3.8 They will mark up the one with a score of 4.5, tell the common buyer it is better than the other one, and make a handsome profit. The informed consumer of course will buy the 3.8 computer, drop in a good video card and now have a 5.0+ computer for a good rate. It is just one more way of intel/microsoft/whoever big company this week taking advantage of the uninformed by giving them one number to focus on & not the whole picture in order to get more profit. I am not certain exactly who stands to profit the most under this setup, but I see the average buyer ripped off by focusing on one number. To the mildly informed consumer, it is useful. Of course this is all MHO & my little soap box. To be truthful, my current machine fits this. It has a 5.8 score processor (amd 6000+), 5.9 Memory (4GB ddr2-6400/800mhz), 5.8 access (2x500gb 7200rpm 16mb HD's) and a 3.0 graphics score (built in motherboard) giving it a score of 3.0. Once I get a dedicated graphics card this will be a 5.8 or so machine. If I knew very little about the VEI however, I would think the machine sucked and would not understand that with one very simple upgrade I could have a rocking machine. -

Thanks. well, got my Fry's answer, there is one within like 800 miles or so of me. Will PM ya, the VEI index is misleading at this time in my opinion as it is often most heavily held back by the video card as it goes by lowest score. If you look at each score, you get a better idea, and if you go to benchmarking sites you get a much better idea. -
Come on down, just dont line up IN FRONT of me at my best buy. I will save you a spot behind me.

only slightly off topic, do you have a best place(s) to buy refurb HP's? I have never heard of FRY's, let alone seen one, and I am in to PC's. I do a good bit of building, fixing and custom work (almost exclusively on desktops though), and it would be nice to have a reliable cheap source of refurbs. -
Looking for a good deal on wireless router
nirvana4all replied to fizzler's topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion
wireless G, or wireless N? If you already have a wireless N card, you probably want wireless N router, if you have G, it is probably overpaying to buy a wireless N router now, so you would want G. -
Lately tire kingdom has been having running b3g1f on lots of tires.

Looks TGTBT to me, but I have no knowledge of the site. A quick search.com look did not find any scams, complaints, etc.

Done. Thanks again for being on the BLEEDING edge of technology, none of my other forums, even my computer ones, do this!

apparently followed closely by deltablue...wow, getting them all out of the woodwork. IMHO, the dells right now wtill overpriced and underpowered as a generality. Lots of decent deals right now, so figure HP might be getting a great deal at OD or Staples with a number of others as well (probably an ACER if I had to guess) on BF. -
so anyone know for certain when these prices become valid?
-
Let me see, I think I just saw a deal for a 12 step program, let me spend an hour searching gottadeal forums for it:D :D Yup, I spend way to much time lately on here.

WE really need to see all the ads to even begin to answer this question if you are asking about it for BF.

Looking for Computer for son
nirvana4all replied to hannahs_momma's topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion
I say personally wait until sunday and look at some of the same places we refered you to this week that were already sold out. The deals lately have been rather decent on some machines. I personally shy away from refurbished, but if you do not, the one from marc is doable (w/ an upgrade to the ram) -
Capitalism (some equate it also to greed) vs Ethics (some equate it to mightier than thou). It all comes down to how much can I make vs how bad would my grandmother think of me. I have no answer, only commentary on what I have read so far. One last note: I think people see it better as reselling the actual item vs reselling the ticket because if you cant resell the ticket, you lose nothing. To resell the item, you have to do the work of being in line, buying the item, listing the item, and you are stuck with it if it does not sell: all of which equates in most minds as having done some actual work besides being in the right place at the right time and assuming some financial risk, and therefore is more acceptable.

The 1gb extra of ram in the CC model will run you up to $75 depending if you need someone to put it in, etc, and the faster processor is a nice touch. If they were both without MIR, I would consider them about equal deals with one being just a step above the other as far as you get a bit more, but you pay a bit more.

Dont feel bad, I have been looking at the site since like nov/dec 2004, but it took me until this july until I signed up to the forums.

Wow, my area has great stuff. 3370* zip codes

Seeing the deals currently going on with dual core systems (m8200n at compusa for $669 for example), I think you will see very happy prices on any single core computers (I am thinking about $250), but also some nice deals on the dual cores. They are prepping the market for the quad cores you know.

Ok Veterans, tell us of Black Fridays of the 80's and 90's...
nirvana4all replied to a topic in 2007
*wide eyed kid amazement* wow, and they didn't even have websites like this to tell them about all the deals back in the 80's did they grandpa? WHY NO GRANDSON, THEY REALLY DIDN'T EVEN HAVE AN INTERNET IN 1980...BARELY EVEN COMPUTERS TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH.
