  1. They generally do this when the majority of stores have too much of a particular assortment or set of assortments, like when they over-order at one point. They need to clear out the stuff stuck in the pipeline so that they can get the new stuff moving through the distribution centers and into the stores. The manufacturers release new assortments several times per year. That doesn't mean all new characters every time. Sometimes they only change one or two of the pieces in the assortments. But if the store over-orders they get stuck and then the manufacturer's orders start to pile up in the distribution center, or somewhere along the pipeline. They are doing basically the same thing, though with a lesser price cut, with the Littlest Pet Shop VIPs. They really got bogged down with these because they over ordered about 4 assortments back. The collectors are not going to buy the ones they have because they already have them, they only want the newest ones, so they lowered the price from $15 to $10 to get them out the door. Now we are FINALLY starting to see the new stuff. The problem, for them, is not always being able to control the fact that some stores do sell the stuff all along so some will not have the same backlog problem and thus the new stuff gets out at the lower price. I've been watching, but our stores are out of stock. Just hoping they get them in before the price goes back up.
  2. Got a $5 off $20 Fisher Price coupon at the checkout today. Attached with my receipt. Keep an eye out, lots of these kinds of coupons printing out again.
  3. Hmmm....not my part of town, unfortunately, though they used to host the Emmys here in Pasadena a lot. Maybe they'll come back when they finish renovating the convention center. I can't help you with that part of town, but do enjoy your trip! I'd love to visit New Zealand one of these days! It is so gorgeous in pictures!
  4. It is usually all removed within a day or so after it goes 90%. It is not surprising that it was almost all gone.
  5. Sorry about that. Knew that Kiwis & Aussies were different species, but thought the chain might cross that bit of water down there. :yup: Well, if you are coming to the States it is another story. Yes, generally the bargains are on the end caps around the perimeter of the store. But they are not there exclusively. Sometimes you'll find things in the aisles as well. Just look for those telltale orange/red tags. What part of LA is your daughter in? There is probably someone on here who shops her closest Target(s). I'm in Pasadena and hit all the stores within about 15 miles of me. :-)
  6. The Target down in your part of the world is not the same company. They only license the name and symbol, etc. They do some joint buying for exclusives, but otherwise they are completely different companies with different management. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_(Australia)
  7. Our stores never changed the signs, but we had very little left. Shoppers were just telling each other.
  8. One lady here told me she bought it to use for some big Christmas charity event for kids in foster care. I am sure there are other similar sorts of uses. Can't imagine hoarding that much.
  9. 90% at our store. I managed to get the things I stashed, and the store had stocked some more of the Kelly dolls & Cars toys, so I am very pleased.
  10. Yeah, I know, I was just hoping that you might have a good halloween story. So many great choices for stabbing! Glad to see you back! You always have the best posts throughout the year.
  11. Our closest two stores both did 90% on BTS. There just wasn't anything left...
  12. Wow! Terribly impressed! THought they were all long gone! CONGRATS!!
  13. Hey Adewrell! Where you been? I haven't heard a good story about slapping some other shopper, or stabbing them with a Halloween decoration in ages!! I don't believe them. Could just be that store, but it seems unlikely that it is even true. particularly when at least one person already reported 90% off.
  14. grumble, grumble... Don't blame you for being upset. We have a kid with peanut allergies in DS1 class, and DS1 is nearly a vegetarian who will only eat chicken nuggets & peanuts as protein! He has to take his lunch to the nurses office everyday it has nuts in it, then has to wash good & rinse his mouth before recess. It is frustrating. On the other hand, I had a friend in college with the allergy, and every exposure to it increases the risk exponentially that they will die of anaphalactic shock. Not pretty. DS is allergic to penicillin, with the same problem, just less risk of exposure. On to bargains, if you have boys and haven't looked, a lot of stores have overlooked the boys Halloween PJs, and I got two Frankenstein sets for $2.48 each today. They are mixed in with the regular PJs, the frankies are grey with either green plaid or skeleton bottoms. There are also pirate designs that are blue. Worth a look. They also had them for girls, but most stores I've been to seem to have found and moved those. Got some Domos, Kellys and Cars today. quite pleased.
  15. That is the store's policy. They do it precisely because people do what you did. Most Targets won't refund seasonal items at the sale price, but only at the newly lowered price. Some states apparently have laws against it, but, in general, you were lucky to even be able to return it and get the 50% price back. They usually only do that for regular merchandise.
  16. The manufacturers of certain items give them full credit. It is generally stuff like CDs, DVDs, books & greeting cards. Generally it is for items with copyrights. There are several reasons, some historical (books), but one big one is that they don't want to dilute the market by allowing them to go out cheap. The copyright owner has to be paid for the sold items, so it is sometimes not worth selling it, better to destroy or recycle it. It is complicated, though. Books are simply over-published and stores are basically asked to push it. That is starting to change, though, so it may not continue long term.
  17. That is just "bloom" and it doesn't make it bad. Just funny looking. Here is info: http://science.howstuffworks.com/question711.htm
  18. I have had a nasty sinus infection, complements of my 5 year old, for the last 3 weeks, so I REALLY sympathize! I know what you mean about the sale stuff. At least if they try it with the Christmas videos (usually they leave a bunch) you'll have some info behind you. Sure hope you don't have to quest for a big toy like last year's pony this year! Take care.
  19. If it is on the shelf with the 50% signs in front of it, most states require that they honor the sale price for at least one of each item. it is there responsibility to pull them before signing it for the sale. If there are onesie twosies where customers have done it, it is one thing, but otherwise, most states Weights & Measures laws require that they sell you at least one of each. I would check into the state law where you live (check the Secretary of State's website) and then ask for a manager and demand the sale price. I have done this successfully more than once. They don't like it, but the managers know that they are required by law to do this. When you make the demand, refer to the Weights & Measures law (or whatever it is called there). There is usually some sort of sticker at the checkout of most stores (check there and grocery stores in the area when you checkout) that will mention that you are entitled to the lowest marked price. That is the law that matters. Of course none of that is worth messing about with when you are sick. But it will allow you to be prepared next time! Feel better!
  20. I wouldn't bet on it. It isn't the first time they have done this. They did it last Christmas too. I would not be surprised to learn that they are trying to shake things up a bit. It seems like they tend to look at the overall stock levels to determine exactly when to go ahead and mark again. If they REALLY need the space, and there is a ton left, they seem to mark it faster. Most of our stores have an aisle or two at most left, and they seem to mark them about a day slower. We'll see. One store I was in already had done most of the new shelf tags for the Christmas stocking stuffers which go where all the Halloween candy was, so that store has very very little Halloween left.
  21. Thanks! Won't waste my time, then. Yeah, I think that some of the stuff they consider more like regular merchandise, not so holidayish, is being done that way. They did that at Christmas last year with the Christmas toys that were stocked in the toy department. They marked it down with the toy clearance instead of toys.
  22. Wondering if they are doing it mid-day today. They have done it in the past. Going to have to trek back out later today. Fortunately most everything I want is hidden.
  23. Just checked last year's thread, and it looks like most places went 75% on the 3rd and 90% the 7th.
  24. For me it is simply a hassle. I don't use the service, so I don't bother. Too many other things going on to figure it out.
  25. That's good. I went to a younger gal just to try to avoid problems, and it went the other way...
