You are taking my post out of context. krissy72 was referring to a GPS in the Walmart circular from the week of 11/8 - NOT the units to be offered on Black Friday. That's why I was telling her to wait till BF: "If you have an upcoming trip before BF, you could buy this and not hate yourself, but otherwise, there will be better deals..."

Call (or stop in) at your local convenience store (Wawa, 7-11, etc.) Around here they typically have their papers before 6 am, but you'll have to check in your area. Also, ask if the convenience store will actually be open on T-Giving since about half will be closed.

Either the Slate (Pantech C530) or Blackjack have QWERTY keyboards which makes texting 1000x easier. (Stay away from that Motorola F3 and the Pantech 3210-- they're both older than rotary phones, LOL!)

It's probably a pricing error. They probably meant to price them at $8.88 or similar. Amazon does this sort of thing a lot.

Not sure if you can upgrade your phone -- a call to Sprint's service line could answer that one. I know on the AT&T web site I can see if my lines are eligible for an upgrade. -------- On BF 2008, my wife and I upgraded (renewed our contract) with AT&T through Radio Shack. On the day before Thanksgiving, I called two local Radio Shacks to check their stock on the phones from the circular. I also asked what time we should be there... The manager of the one store said it wasn't necessary to show up before 9 am because cell phones aren't a super hot seller on BF. Also, in my experience, it takes about 20 minutes to sign up for a new contract, per line. Between getting the phone, setting up the service, printing/reading (skimming)/signing the contract, paying for the phone, transferring numbers over, etc. It all ads up... Just try to do that at 5 am in a swamped Best Buy, with people bumping into you, other rude people interrupting you or the BB employee to ask where the DVDs are, or for the employee to fetch some item from a top shelf, whatever. It would be a hellish experience... Either it'll take double the normal amount of time (40+ minutes), or the employee is going to need to be very short with you because you are only buying an item that the store makes maybe $100 on and he/she can't afford to give you undivided attention for 20 minutes. But by all means, double-check your local Best Buy -- I have a feeling that they'll say not to bother before 8 am at the earliest. And also take a second look at the Sprint phones that Radio Shack is going to have on BF. There are more Radio Shack stores, some are in some really out-of-the-way places (less busy).

Yes, to all of those tasks.... Also, they can use WiFi, so if you can get a WiFi signal, you could also surf the internet, use Twitter, post here on Gottadeal, etc.

If you use any of the voices in built into any GPS, they will all say the same things (with different tones, male vs. female, ethnic flair, etc.). If you are looking at a text-to-speech unit, all of the voices that came from the factory (even the foreign language ones) will all say the same street names... I changed from my Garmin's default voice to a woman's voice speaking with an Australian accent. Try 'em out in the store! -------------- Where you might have heard that "standard" phrases business is if you went and downloaded an aftermarket voice and added it to your text-to-speech GPS, say Homer Simpson or an Elvis impersonator... Those aftermarket voices typically only have standard phrases (turn right in 800 yards).

Personally, if someone is on the fence, all things being equal, I'd recommend Garmin over TomTom. While I own a TomTom from two years ago and it's fine, the latest TomToms are receiving some rotten feedback from actual owners. ------- Also, while both Garmin and TomTom GPS units are manufactured in Asia, Garmin's headquarters is in Olathe, Kansas, while TomTom's headquarters is in the Amsterdam, Netherlands. While the Netherlands is a fine country and I have nothing against them, buying a Garmin supports American innovation and at least a few American engineer's jobs.

If the box lists an inline remote control on the headphones then you are definitely looking at a 3rd generation.
