stacyk9 Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Just read an interesting article about Toys R Us adding "pop-up" locations for the holiday season. Toys R Us Plans Christmas BlitzWritten by The Merchant. Filed under Christmas Marketplace September 16th, 2009 With Christmas just a few months away, Toys R Us Inc. is boosting its holiday lineup with hundreds of new toy shops. The toy giant is expected to announce plans today to open about 350 Holiday Express toy locations throughout the country by early October in an effort to drive sales and grab market share from other toy sellers. The expansion includes more than 80 pop-up stores in shopping centers nationwide and more than 260 toy shops within the company’s Babies R Us stores. The Wayne, N.J., retailer currently operates 847 Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores in the U.S. Pop-up stores are temporary locations that are usually tied to a specific event, such as Halloween or the back-to-school season, and close after a few weeks or months. They have become more popular lately as prime retail spaces sit vacant during the recession. The company said the Holiday Express shops would offer the “hottest gifts,” including dolls, action figures and educational toys, at “great values.” “We’re aggressively expanding our toy-selling footprint to make Toys R Us more accessible than ever for busy shoppers this holiday season,” Chief Executive Jerry Storch said. “The foot traffic in these popular shopping destinations provides a considerable opportunity to assert our toy authority position, increase our brand penetration and drive incremental sales.” The shops are scheduled to close in mid-January.
tlklcox Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I hope we get a pop up location. They closed our Toys R Us four years ago and the closest store is 30 minutes away now. Would be interesting at least.
Rose0426 Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 I heard Christiana Mall in Newark, De is supposed to get one.
peifgirl Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 I hope we get a pop up location. They closed our Toys R Us four years ago and the closest store is 30 minutes away now. Would be interesting at least.I doubt they put one near you if you have one that close already.
Rose0426 Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 No - Christiana Mall is less than a mile from the store, and heard from management that one is being put in there.
Scanner420 Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 (edited) Christiana Mall is usually a nightmare on BF. They usually have traffic issues Thanksgiving Night. Edited September 22, 2009 by Scanner420 Because I can't F-INg Spell!!
Rose0426 Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Heard yesterday that where there was a profitable K-B store, thats probably where they will put one. Now Christiana Mall in DE is still up in the air. They might add more pop-ups than first expected though. Pop up stores will only have the "hot" toys and probably will have BF advertised toys. I can't see them having everything the normal store has in stock though.
berry1014 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Christiana Mall is usually a nightmare on BF. They suually have traffic issues Thanksgiving Night.Which is why I avoid that place on BF. I used to go there with my friends late in the afternoon on BF but even that was becoming a headache.
amberjobryant Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Hmm I guess that we are out of luck in more rual areas......
Scanner420 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 will they do BF specials in pop ups?I think it all depends on what they sell. The old KB outlet stores sold the overstock at reduced prices and didn't comply with any holiday sales when they were around since they were already maked down, but they didn't really sell anything that was considered a "Hot" item of the year either. If TRU is planning to stock up on the hot toys, I think they should comply with the sales, but that's just me.
Karmarose Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 I think they will comply with the sales. I am guessing that the after christmas sale will be amazing if they don't want to ship things to other stores.
Ravenseye Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Here in Syracuse, the first pop up location just opened in the last few days. It's located at the Carousel Center mall in the previous KayBee Toys location. -Mike
Elmck Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 In Chesapeake Va they have reaaranged the babies r us to include more toys and are saying that the Toys R Us is there. They had more toys than the normal babies r us but I would still drive the distance to go to the regular one. I was hoping they would onpen one in the mall, but I guess not.
bigjimslade Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Here is a link to a article on the locations. http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-pop-up17-2009oct17,0,6635106.story?track=rss Remember everyone when you are citing a source of info please include the link in the post. bfaddict1977 Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 we got one in our mall. It's call holiday express. It's nice but small
jillandjustin Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 We have a Toyz coming to the Milford CT mall in the former KB location (also one in Meriden). I guess they are not affiliated with TRU, as those are Holiday Express...
jillandjustin Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Here is the list of locations:http://www4.toysrus.com/our/tru/prom/2009HolidayExpress/index.cfm
BridgeIU Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 There's one at Babies R Us in Clearwater Shoppes (Indy). Do you think these stores will have all of the doorbusters on BF? I am thinking that going there is going to be faster than TRU in Castleton because there's only 2 TRUs in the whole city!!
skytrain Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Here in Syracuse, the first pop up location just opened in the last few days. It's located at the Carousel Center mall in the previous KayBee Toys location.-MikeDo you know if they are partcipating in the Black Friday Deals at the Carousel Mall one, I am debating on going over there to get the Littlest Pet Shop Stuffed Animals for 2.98.
