cass71 Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 All the tops up here will start liquidating the week of Nov. 7th. Starting with 25% the first week, 50% the next and finally 75%. I think they might even go 90% the last week. They will officially be closed by Dec. 8th.
kboyts Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 I just got a tops ad in the mail and it had a note on it about all of their stores being open while they were sold. Awesome I never liked tops anyway but I will be sure to hit them up for 25-50 % off my bill !
bugsette Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 I'm feel so bad that they are closing... I really liked them. I sure hope someone buys the stores that Giant Eagle did not purchase. I just don't want one big grocery store... plus all those people out a job... something should have been done about this months ago
Novac Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 The Tops here all rotated with huge sales, but it was because they all remodeled and upgraded and needed to clear off shelving space!
BFQueenofNY Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 Alot of the non-food items will get sent to all the remaining open stores. They did that after the last set of closings
cass71 Posted October 25, 2006 Author Posted October 25, 2006 From my sources these Tops won't be sending anything to the remaining open stores since they are all closing here. The warehouses are not receiving anything and haven't been for about a month now and the stores backrooms are very very bare. So when they sell out of things they will really be out of them. The sad part of this is that it really is effecting more people then just those that work in the stores. The warehouse people, the merchandisers, the demo people, truck drivers.
bugsette Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 I heard that they had 2 offers and that and they didn't go thru
bugsette Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 Tops started their reduction: 10% off fresh meat, produce, bakery & deli. Greeting cards 50%. And alot of other itmes 25%
elena_398 Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I wish I had a Tops around me even if Im in Ohio. All are north of me and way too far
ljonesATL Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Wow, been down in Atlanta. Tops is closing!!!!! Nobody back home in Cleveland mentioned this. Anyone remember when it was called Finest?
christmasangel Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Wow- I can't imangine our area without Tops! Tops is very profitable around Western New York. Good luck grabbing sweet deals!
leefamily23 Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Christmasangel- many of the Tops in this area will be closing-- it's been in the news last week. There is a chance a few more could become Martin's (the 2 closest to me already have- Derby & Fredonia). My uncle-in-law is a tops warehouse driver, we were just talking about this last weekend, he said they were told it's inevitable unless a deal comes through.
step0038 Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Do you know if any stores buying them out?
badboy1072 Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 its very sad when a grocery store chain closes i worked for "eagle country markets " in the quad cities for 25 years when they closed there doors and now all we have is hy-vee's they really dont compare to eagles stores:(
mywarmbluefleece Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 My dad went to Tops and said it seemed like they marked their prices up before they marked them down. He said everything seemed more expensive. I am waiting til next week.
angieandjoeysmom Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 My dad went to Tops and said it seemed like they marked their prices up before they marked them down. He said everything seemed more expensive. That was my feeling too......
cass71 Posted November 19, 2006 Author Posted November 19, 2006 I just got back from Tops. Meat, Dairy, & Produce is 10% off, School supplies are 40% off, Greeting Cards & Hair coloring are 50% off and just about everything else is 30 % off. I agree everything seems to have been marked up. Plus the coupons are not doubling as of today, which was a really disappointment. I spent 2 hours going through figuring prices out and searching for coupons for everything and then to just have it not double was frustrating! I would have saved those coupons for Giant Eagles then! Oh and no checks are being accepted only cash and credit.
mominthepark Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 I went to Tops with my coupons, no where did it say that they were no longer doubling, I saved $58.00, but it should have been a lot more. I also thought that they raised a lot of their prices, especially on the frozen foods. I wouldn't buy anything unless I had a coupon for it, but I got burned on the doubling.
bugsette Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 same here. gosh I wish someone would buy the rest of the stores that Giant Eagle/Dave's did not
mywarmbluefleece Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 I think I'll avoid Tops. It is sad they are closing and a lot of them aren't being purchased by anyone else. Giant Eagle will have a monopoly in a lot of places.
forcedtoregister Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 The Tops next to Richmond Mall got bought by Zagara's Marketplace. I LOVE Zagara's in Cleveland Heights so I am happy to see them expand. They are a bit more expensive than Tops was but no more than Heinen's is and their service is great. For instance, their "cafe specials" cooked by chefs right when you order. Plus, all those unique things that the big box grocers don't have Zagara's does. Ooo, Ooo, and you can pay with your fingerprint... no more wallet searching or check writing!
Saubunch Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 I live in Ashtabula County and the Tops here closed already. Does anyone know where the next closest Tops store is that is closing???? THANKS!!!
Conan-kun Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Saubunch, I'm from Mentor and we have a Tops store. I don't know if there are any Tops stores further east that may be closer to you. But Mentor's Top store is right at the Route 2 exit for Rt. 615 (Center St.). and it's near the Big Lots and Gabriel Brothers plaza if you know where that is. I was there yesterday and the store was pretty empty, though they still had quite a bit left and almost everything (except bakery) is 40-60% off.
cass71 Posted November 30, 2006 Author Posted November 30, 2006 The Tops in Brunswick has been bought out by Buehlers and rumor has it that Friday they will announce more sales.
bugsette Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 I went to Tops today only 1 more day... how sad... most products are 80-90% off.. I walked out of there with 8 bags for about 20.00
refundmommy Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 Hi, I'm new... just wanted to say that we had 2 Tops stores here, and they are both now closed. I went to them both and they were upto 80% off. Milk and dairy and pop were all 10% off. Regular food was 50% off or higher and most everything else was 70-80& off. I got a bunch of stocking stuffers for my kids in the toys and school supplies stuff for next to nothing. I love saving money :)
bugsette Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 It's so sad no more Tops.... Rini Rego's did purchase 2 of them this past week
