Gporter34 Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 I try to bake enough extra every year to make up baskets filled with candies, cookies, and breads to give as gifts to teachers, neighbors, coworkers, and family members. Does anyone else still do this? If so, what kinds of things do you bake?:)
shanni Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 I bake ALOT at Christmas, tons of cookies especially. But believe it or not, I don't know the actual names of the cookies, isn't that sad.
Cecilliadb Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 My Mom does this every year big time. I am gonna do fudge and some kind of little cakes just havent picked one out yet :) And I will probably end up helping my MIL when I head over that way, it's gonna be fun!
ms_mckenna Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 We do chex mix and then the sweet chex mix. Usually make oreos dipped in 1/2 white and 1/2 dark chocolate with green and red sprinkles.
shopping mom Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 I do. All kinds of cookies, peanutbutter fudge, brownies, small loafs of banana nut bread, etc...
elena_398 Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 I don't bake that much. Only a few batches of cookies to decorate with the family.
carone0318 Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 I bake stuff for co-workers. Last year I made rocky road fudge, Christmas bark and spiced nuts. I will probably do the same thing this year. I really would prefer to do nothing for most of them (because they are social rejects), but I keep the Christmas spirit, suck it up and hand my baggies out with a smile!
mom395222 Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 I bake a lot for different people. Here's one thing that I have found people LOVE and it's quite easy to make Take Town House crackers....2 of them, and spread peanut butter in between them, make a sandwich, then you dip it in your baking chocolate...delish!! I go and get baking chocolate from the amish, and make the crackers and choc covered pretzels, they're both so easy:yup:

dealdiva Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Yes! I also like to do chocolates. Gourmet Carmel Apples, mints, turtles, etc. I almost do more candy than cookies.
misshayley Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 I used to do a lot of baking, but last year I didn't bake and instead made cookie jar mixes and dip mixes, and my family really loved those. So that means I don't have to bake and can just make the mixes :) I am too tempted to eat the cookies when I bake.
Firemansgal311 Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 We do chex mix and then the sweet chex mix. Usually make oreos dipped in 1/2 white and 1/2 dark chocolate with green and red sprinkles. Have you tried the chex that is tossed in chocolate then tossed in powdered sugar? My ds brought some home from school last Christmas and it was goooood.
Firemansgal311 Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 I bake often not just during the holidays so friends, family and neighbors always enjoy coming over and helping eat the 10 or 12 dozen cookies I bake at a time. Or one of the many cakes we make.
mrn8 Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Nope, I usually give them a Starbucks or Caribou card.
Great Dane Mom Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Have you tried the chex that is tossed in chocolate then tossed in powdered sugar? My ds brought some home from school last Christmas and it was goooood. We call this "Puppy Chow". I think it's called Muddie Buddies on the Chex boxes. It also has peanut butter in it. 9 c. Chex cereals (corn, rice and/or wheat)1 c. semi sweet chocolate chips1/2 c. peanut butter1/4 c. butter1/4 tsp. vanilla1 1/2 c. powdered sugar Pour cereal into large bowl and set aside. Combine chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter in 1 quart microwavable bowl. Microwave on high for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes or until smooth (stir after 1 minute). Stir in vanilla. Pour chocolate mixture over cereal and stir until all pieces are evenly coated.Pour cereal mixture into large container (with seal) with powdered sugar. Seal securely. Shake until all pieces are well coated. Spread on wax paper to cool. Store in an airtight container. Makes 9 cups.

Melissa Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 If I get around to baking for my own family, I'm doing good.
Bunniq Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 I don't and believe me that makes a lot of people happy lol. But I sure do like it when people bake a little extra for me and DH. There is a former coworker who calls from time to time to ask for printing favors and before she even gives me the details I say yes! She pays me in cookies and they taste so wonderful!

copados1993 Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 I bake for everyone LOL!!! I usually don't enjoying baking cookies, but that is the one time of year i do go crazy. My DH is a wonderful cook and loves to be right there in the kitchen with me. The kids will help some, but are much more interested in the finished product.
dubbabubba Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 I make pumpkin bread in a jar and give to the neighbors. Good converstation piece if you're trying to get to know your them a better, too.
krissy904 Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 greek pastries for extended family, teachers, and usually a handful ot two of close friends. I attended a Greek Festival in St. Augustine Florida this last weekend and I am proud to say that my cooking puts them to shame. And the best part is that even though I love to cook greek delights, I have no desire to eat them. Kristyn
