I’m old and fat and can’t take the heat anymore. Right there with ya..was sick with the heat for 3 days visiting my daughter in Georgia at the end of Jul...told her no more mom visits in summer ...any other time Oct-April is ok...she laughed but knew I was serious...their heat and humidity is nuts. 2
ilikefree Posted August 5 Posted August 5 What happened to summer, July in particular?! It seems as though it just started and poof, it's gone! 1

Try the Gulf Coast of Alabama ... everyday brings a "Heat Advisory" with 98 degrees+ and feel like temps up to 120 degrees plus humidity up to 98%... Air conditioners can't handle it and we are miserable! Looking to move - now that hubby is retired - can't handle this anymore! 1 2
Gator Pam Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Pictorial update of my two raised beds at Marymoor Community Garden in Redmond, WA. Zone 9a, up from 8b last year. I’m basically treating it as a mixture of both zones. South side of the arching trellis: Purple collard trees Various tomatoes I got for free from one of my gardening Facebook groups Asparagus crown from a deserted plot at the gardens Various herbs and field greens Sweet corn I sowed from seed last month, so it has a ways to go Underneath cardboard towards the front carrot seeds I sowed yesterday North side of the arching trellis: Various tomatoes Various herbs and field greens Another asparagus crown from a deserted plot at the gardens Sweet corn I sowed from seed last month, so it also has a ways to go Under the cardboard towards the front of the bed are parsnip seeds I sowed yesterday 5

stationchief Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Happy monsoon season! Clear skies every sunny morning and nothing but storms and rain at night. Don'tcha just love AZ weather?

speeddiva Posted August 10 Posted August 10 Checking in for August. It’s been a pretty quiet summer around here because it’s been too hot to do anything! I’m looking forward to fall. 2

stacya Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Happy August! We took our oldest back to Temple last Thursday (he is an RA, so he needs to be on campus before students), for his junior year. My most recent high school grad is taking a gap year while he tries again to get into a watchmaking school, which is extremely competitive. He will apply to a program in Seattle again this fall. And my daughter, the luger, just got back from her last summer training camp last week. She had two great camps, and this upcom8ng season, she will be sliding in both singles and doubles. This month's pics are flat ice training, practicing their paddling, with her coach (and former Olympian), photobombing to let me know that Kendall and her doubles partner are doing well for just starting out, and Kendall taking 2nd place in a starts race against her fellow Candidate team level teammates, as well as the next level team (Jr. National Team), of athletes aged 17 and up (Kendall just turned 15 in June). 6
ilikefree Posted August 20 Posted August 20 First day of school in a new position in our school cafeteria. What a day! I'm ready for summer break again! 1 3
packratfamily Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Checking in for August. The year is flying by! Had awfully hot weather this summer (more than the usual hot muggy Maryland summer) but the last few days have been delightful! (We call it Maine summer) i am just so happy my going back to school days are past. Keep cool , keep well.
berry1014 Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Mother nature teased us these last couple days with beautiful Fall like weather only to warm back up this weekend. I am over summer!!! 1
Gator Pam Posted August 23 Posted August 23 I should probably post this in the Discuss GottaDeal section, but I want to thank Brad for fixing whatever was causing the Black Friday archives to occasionally show a new post notification when there wasn’t one.. The only way I knew to have the new notification disappear was to go into the forum, open the year listed, and mark as read. Thankfully, that hasn’t happened in a while. Thank you, Brad! 4
Rose0426 Posted August 24 Posted August 24 Checking in for August. Hope everyone had a great summer 1
ytmomof4 Posted August 25 Posted August 25 Back to school for my baby next week. She will be a senior. Excuse me while I go cry lol 4 2
Gator Pam Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Summer here in the Pacific Northwet had a few summer days, but it’s been very fall like later into the summer and earlier into the end of summer. My raised beds are doing well, but none of my tomatoes (I have nine plants between my two beds) have ripened yet. Both beds with the trellis in between. I’m experimenting with sweet corn for the first time along with tomatoes, herbs, and some greens. The bed on the north side of the trellis. And the one on the south side. This is my first year growing Mortgage Lifter, along with the San Marzano-style Romas I save seed from last year and several varieties of cherry tomatoes. All are coming along nicely, they just haven’t ripened yet. Waiting is… 2
Cubsfan23 Posted August 27 Posted August 27 I hope everyone is staying cool and doing well. Gator Pam, my daughter and soon-to-be son-in-law would love your garden! My daughter bought me Lego flowers because I have a tendency to kill plants. So far, so good! 5
HanShotFirst Posted August 28 Posted August 28 Well temps back to being brutal again and again, I, in the hospital for yet another health issue. This summer can just go away please and thank you. 2 5
Gator Pam Posted August 29 Posted August 29 First of the season! Last night our temperatures fell into the mid-40s. I was so concerned of catastrophe as I headed to the garden. But, I was greeted by a couple of nice surprises today. I was certain at least one variety of the several different cherry tomatoes I’m growing would ripen first, especially since one had a cluster slowly ripening over the past week. But, no. Mortgage Lifter for the win! I’m quite happy with a tomato weighing just over a pound to start! My corn then had a surprise for me by having some silks starting to peek out. Now I need to figure out when to start hand pollinating. The proud gardener. 1 3
