tinkrbel Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 (edited) I know it's probably too late for Bf sales but what's a good, solid-ish,quiet-ish bagless long last vacuum preferably not too expensive. I bought a eureka last year and it broke a few months ago. It's under warranty still but i haven't called because a) life is busy and I'm guessing any shipping/repair involved is going to cost me more than the $39 or so i paid for it and c) that thing was LOUD. i didn't expect too much for a cheap vacuum but less than a year is pitiful. We have tile and pets so I'm staying away from stick options because they'll probably take multiple empties in 1 cleaning Edited November 29, 2014 by tinkrbel
bluebear Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I'm glad you said that about the Eureka, because I bought my daughter one last year and hers has broken too. I thought she just wasn't taking care of it. Bless her heart, though, she did take it apart and try to fix it.I have the Dirt devil like what Target had in their ad. I've had mine for about 5 years, and it's now wearing out. I bought both of us one yesterday.Maybe you can still find one, my store had about 15 left yesterday at 6 am.
Kanyon71 Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 They won't be on the cheapish side but there are still some good deals on the Dyson ones out there. We have a Dyson Animal and love it, we have had 0 problems and it works great.
freesia39 Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 While I have a Dyson (the stick wireless model) I've heard good things about Shark vacuums.
shoptillidrop2 Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I'm shopping for a vacuum too. I don't know much about them but I think I've decided on the Bissell PowerForce Helix at Walmart for $47.84 with nearly a 4.3/5 star rating with over 2,000 ratings. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Bissell-PowerForce-Helix-Bagless-Upright-Vacuum/30154992
Dylansmommy Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I have a Dyson Animal and a Shark. I keep one upstairs and the other downstairs. They've both been great!
floridasun5 Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I bought a Dyson previously and didn't like it because of the construction of the very front whereas it moves up and down, so if you have thick carpet or rugs, it was really, really hard to push. I have a plush rug in my bedroom and I couldn't even vacuum it with the dyson because the front of the vacuum kept pushing down as I pushed the vacuum forward and not allowing it to be pushed. Kinda hard to relate in text instead of actually seeing it, but in any case I just bought a Shark Rocket that's great! After watching the informercial and reading the reviews, people rave about it! Much cheaper than a Dyson, bagless, doesn't lose power, is lightweight and it can be transformed into a hand vac from the upright or stick which is what I bought. The Shark is $199 online, but Bed Bath and Beyond had it on sale for $189 and you can use the 20% off coupon on it, so a really good deal. Check out reviews on Amazon.com which is where most of the reviews are.
stacya Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 I got a Shark a few months back from Best Buy...you can remove the plastic receptacle (can't think of what else to call it) from the vacuum and carry it with you so you can easily vacuum stairs, too...it's awesome...great suction on both carpet and hardwood/tile...I think we paid about $150, but after a series of $50 vacuums over the years, it was time for an upgrade!! Very happy with my purchase, and it's significantly lighter than our last vacuum was, too...
Nate Dogg Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 http://store.panasonic.com/shop/model/MC-V5210 We have 2 of these. both are over 10 years old. Other than having a 50 foot cord (which is amazingly convenient) the thing that impressed us most about this vacuum was how well it worked. My wife used to vacuum about every day and had a pretty good vacuum at the time, but when we first got this one she had to change the bag 3 different times during the first pass through. It also does not put dust or dirt back in the air. Other than bags (which I get about every other year now) the only thing I ever needed to do was replace a belt on one of them.
brandibug Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Another vote for Dyson. I know they're not cheap, BUT - I've been using my original yellow Dyson for about 8 years now and the only thing I've ever had to fix was the extension hose because it got a tear in it, and I was able to order a replacement on Amazon really cheap .IT's been the best $399 I ever spent.
bribri25 Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 We've had our Dyson Animal for a year and so far everything works great. We got it at Kohls on BF week when it was 40-50% off, 15% off coupon, and earned Kohls Cash. That made it seem worth the price tag.
bourgda Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Love my Shark, it's great on hard surfaces and carpet.
Kanyon71 Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 So looks like this thread is very pro Dyson and Shark lol
ISU ME Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Another vote for Dyson! Try calling customer service about your broken vacuum though, I had a cheap Bissell that stopped working because something inside it melted and they paid the shipping to return the broken one and sent me a refurbished vacuum.
StacieM99 Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Shark! It's the best vacuum I've ever bought! We have a central vac too and the shark is as good, if not better!
ObiRich Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Shark...we have a navigator liftaway and it's great, even with the cat hair.
tinkrbel Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 I got overwhelmed reading reviews then gave up looking on Monday. Seems like everything in any price range has reviews saying it broke within 2 weeks to amazing.i just need to pull the trigger and stop trying to be responsible. A squaretrade warranty should cover most things, right?
Kanyon71 Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 You will find bad reviews about the best products. No way to make everyone happy. Some people will rate a product horribly because someone at the store was rude to them (wish I was joking on this one).
kayray Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Our family is VERY hard on vacuums! I have had two Orecks over the past twenty years. Many times they were treated more like shop vacs due to multiple home renovations, but like the energizer bunny, they kept on ticking They are especially good on wood and tile floors, a feature that is hard to find in a vacuum. During that time frame I have also had numerous "cheapie" secondary vacuums, none lasted very long. One of our cheapies was a bagless which I did find very effective on pet hair. I went to go check out the Shark at Sam's Club. I ran into a lady who cleans homes and swears by the Shark. Said she has all of her clients buy one. I have had mine for about six months and couldn't be more pleased. While it can be a bit ungainly at times, it really does do a great job. I know the Dyson gets great reviews as well, but I can't imagine it working any better, especially for the huge price difference.
tinkrbel Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 Hmm....seems like price wise at least a shark or oreck would be cost effective and durable. Will compare those options and see.maybe kohls has one and i could combine kohls cash and yes rewards towards cost
Wubbamom Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I used to work in a vacuum shop and repaired vacuums. If you are looking for a good vacuum find one with a bypass system (the panasomic or simplicity) so things do not filter through the motor. Also look for one with removable brushes that you can replace, brushrolls are very expensive to replace but brushes are not.I had a simplicity vacuum for 19 years and loved it - just stopped working one day and I went and bought a new one.To get good quality you have to pay for it - unfortunately.Good Luck!Go to a local vacuum shop and talk to them - that is what the do.Laura
bribri25 Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 There's a shark on sale today only @ Shopko.com. Reg $179.99Sale $79.99 http://www.shopko.com/product/Home/Home-Appliances/Vacuums-Floorcare/Bagless-Vacuums/entity/pc/6/pc1/49/pc2/0/c/321/sc/1070/36796.uts?utm_source=120514+dealsday3&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=120514+dealsday3&cm_mmc=cheetah-_-email-_-120514-_-dealsday3 It doesn't look to be extremely heavy duty but may be enough for what you need it for at that price. I can't vouch for that particular brand/model but maybe someone can before the end of the day.

bribri25 Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Geez. That didn't take long. I'm sure there's some left in stores but Shopko is not very widespread.
tinkrbel Posted December 5, 2014 Author Posted December 5, 2014 yeah that really bummed me out. I tried to get Amazon to price match and they refused. I think sears still has at like 109.99. May just bite the bullet and use up the points I earned on BF. Maybe try to price match in store when I go pickup my stuff today if its in stock.
rnstrange Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 Another vote for Shark! Got mine on BF through Kohls. Love it!!
