ruserthu Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 I'm not trying to come across like a snob or anything, but... To me, shopping at JC Penney and Sears (being a guy) is a waste of time, regardless of the cost, because the clothes aren't made well. So...: Have stores like Saks, Nordstrom, Macy's, J. Crew, Banana Republic, Gap, Abercrombie and Fitch, etc. ever have sales?
Gporter34 Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 I wouldn't know, I'm a WalMart shopper myself.
Spotted1 Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 I've been told American Eagle will be having a 15% off sale on BF.. but that's the only "upper-end" store that I know about.

sigrist_2000 Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 most stores will be offering some kind of discount to draw people in the store...especially knowing that people will be out!
erh12275 Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 IMO, people who go to those stores are not looking for a good deal anyway, so why would they bother? -Mark-Have to agree w/ Mark here...they don't have to give deals because the people buying their stuff would buy it anyway. However some of them do have a sale(Macy's usually does)...just not like the others stores sales.
wastedwords Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Yes, these stores always have sales, but they are not the kind of "door-buster" sales you see from stores like Sears or Wal-mart. I wouldn't expect Nordstroms to have any type of sale -- and if they do, it isn't going to be on a Kate Spade purse or Burberry colonge. Anything at Banana may be marked down slightly, but not significantly. I wouldn't count on anything significant at J-Crew either. Gap, Limited, Express, Ann Taylor Loft, Macy's and Filenes usually have sales. What your going to find is sales on specific items. Like a sweater for $24.99 instead of $59.99. I'm a Banana / J-Crew shopper too, so I agree, it sucks that they dont have "door buster" sales.
Princess7915 Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Yes, the nicer stores do have BF sales. I just think they don't put the push into advertising. Macy's/Hechts has decent sales and there stuff is nice. If you have a Dillards they have BF stuff going on. Not sure about Nordstrum because ours is too far out for BF shopping for me.
venerdinero Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 I believe that Lord&Taylor usually has a BF sale - usually with various coupons printed in the Thanksgiving Day paper itself - not the insert. I seem to remember there being special "doorbuster" coupons for additional or greater savings. I believe that Macy's does the same.
VonnegutFan Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Let me just say that Target is a classy store .
venerdinero Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Let me just say that Target is a classy store .I believe that school supplies for class are usually stocked in the back of your local Target!
krissy72 Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 You mean all this time I thought I was shopping at classy stores and I wasn't? Wow, it's like finding out about Santa and the Easter Bunny. Now I'm gonna go call my Mother and find out what else she didn't tell me.

TvBob Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 JC Penney has a ton of well made clothes for men, sears not quite as much, though they do have some decent suits. I find a lot more crappy clothes at macys than jc penney.
freesia39 Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 IMO, people who go to those stores are not looking for a good deal anyway, so why would they bother? -Mark-hey i shop there! but outlets only!
cuzisaid Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 saks, neiman marcus, nordstroms, brooks brothers, eddie bauer, and other higher end stores use their own outlet stores to discount and 'sale promo' things. they always have BF sales of some type.
Savage Garden Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 ruserthu isn't Filene's classier enough for you:mischievo I bet they would have a big sale there
khrysta Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Younkers and Marshall Field's have BF sales. Last year, Younkers had some AMAZING deals.
mjmcca Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 I dont know about BF but i do know that Nordstroms has sales. They are having their half yearly sale now i saw the banner onthe building as i passed it inthe mall last week. I shop everywhere from Walmart to Nordstroms depending on what i need at the time. I really like the socks that you can get at Nordstroms for example. I have no idea if they have deals on BF however.
niclar Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 I'm not trying to come across like a snob or anything, but... The title of the thread was a bit snobbish....Cause I shop at walmart and target doesnt result in me having less "classier" taste.... but I know that wasnt your intent....I think all stores have some kind of sale. BF is the beginning of the official holiday shopping season. Its all about making money..They want to draw the crowds...
happyrat Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Nordstrom's and Neiman Marcus sometimes have great sales. I found a pair of pants cheaper at Neiman Marcus than at Walmart one year. The only have sales 2 or 3 times a year though when the seasons change, and they rarely go more than 60% off. Not sure of your definition of classy stores, but Dillards always has the best buys although not on BF. After winter in January, or Summer late August almost all clothes are 75% off and this year it was 75% + 30%. I buy all my clothes there and have never spent more than $20 on a shirt, and got several for less than $10. Thes are $60+ shirts. No pun intended, but I guess the forum auto-edits your post.
