BF packages lost in the mail by USPS

I should have posted this sooner as the BF thread is winding down but pose a question to you all. Am I the only one that has had packages 'lost' in the mail from USPS? I've had at least six packages not make it to my door since BF (one was from FEDEX). Amazon and Best Buy has been great about re-shipping, but it's not really their fault. Walmart just cancelled my order and refunded my money so I can't get the BF deal. It's almost as bad as getting 'cancelled (which I had six of those this BF season ;)). I watched the tracking on all of these and there is no final destination scan on any of them so it doesn't sound like it got delivered to the wrong address. I'm ONE person with SIX packages missing; can you imagine how many others are out there? Is there a pile of boxes with no where to go? I don't think so.

I made a lot of online purchases and luckilly have gotten everything. Still waiting on 2 things from finish line and 2 from amazon but they are suppose to be here tomorrow. I also had luck and got nothing cancelled. But I didn't buy anything online on black friday except from Amazon. I didn't use walmart or target this year at all, but have heard a lot of horror stories about both. I ordered a lot from Amazon, Kohls, Toys R Us, Hollister, Finish line, Ralph Lauren, and Best Buy.

I had a crazy time with one of mine where i had a return which was picked up by the office max courier service, which I guess is common. But there was a UPS pickup generated for ups to come by and pick that package up. That package was already taken the day before bt courier service. Luckily for ups, we had a package delivered by fedex that morning so they just took that. Took me a week of trying to track it down but it got returned to office max and they were wondering why they got a Verizon pkg getting returned to them. Ugh, what a mess. Should i pursue any action against that courier service for taking a package they obviously weren't authorized to?

I've been lucky this year and got everything that was shipped to me. I've been not so lucky before. I mean I get mail for other people in my mailbox, so I know that mistakes happen. You'd think that if a package was delivered in error to a neighbor, they'd bring it to you - right?

I have had a package lost in transit from Walmart this year. They actually refunded me for it yesterday. I have no idea where it could be. The tracking states that it's last location was Charleston W.V. and that was on the 11th of this month. Nothing has updated since then. It was shipped UPS Mail Innovations which I absolutely hate. Hope your packages turn up soon.

Have you notified your local postmaster? That is crazy that many packages would get lost. Is it possible they would have been stolen off your porch or something?

No, I live away from most people. There is no one out there waiting for a package, lol. They track to my local post office or the next city over, but never make it to me. Usually they will say out for delivery and I know it's coming. It's when they stop tracking before that is when I get in trouble. BTW, I just found another missing package (coming from Overstock); I guess that makes seven :(.

Not BF related but looks like the Target package I sent to my aunt's house was mis-delivered yesterday or she's just too special to find it. I never know with her and don't really feel like driving over there to look for it myself. I emailed Target about it.

UPDATE: Target is issuing a refund :( I really wanted free shampoo/conditioner for my aunt instead but I can't really argue since they could say it shows delivered and not give me squat

I've had 2 of my packages get delievered to the next block. Same house number different street. Glad she was honest and brought them to me. :rwb:

That would be nice. Did your tracking show it as delivered(to their house)? My tracking stops at the local post office on my packages.

Have you tried calling or going in to talk to the local Postmaster? If you have this many stopping at the local P.O. and not going any further there is obviously a problem. Others may be having the same problem as well, so you calling in just might help figure out what is going on.

I did send a 'nasty' gram to USPS via their website, but nothing locally.

We just did a fundraiser for my daughters team that was being delivered to my house. The Fed Ex truck rings my doorbell and then runs back into his truck, I open the door and there's a TV box outside my door from Walmart and I was thinking that I didn't order a TV and my son would tell me if he had a TV shipped to my house... I looked at the shipping label and saw that it wasn't anyone that I knew and the street wasn't even around here so I ran to the truck and luckily he hadn't left, he was scanning and organizing the packages in his truck. The fundraiser box was probably worth more than the TV!

Luckily I have not had any problems this year. I was a bit nervous when I read the thread about Target cause I had one order that I received an email saying it was shipped but every time I tried to track it there was no info. Luckily I got it today. I have ordered ALOT from Target, Amazon and Walmart and also ordered from Best BUy, Finishline, Aeropostale, Jc Penny and Elf cosmetics. I have received everything in a timley manner and nothing has been lost. I just had one order canceled for the first time today from Finishline.

My response from USPS:

"Dear XXXXXXXXXX,

I regret learning of the inconvenience you have experienced.

The Postal Service is aware of the frustration and disappointment caused when we do not live up to our commitment of safe and reliable mail service.

I have ran the track and confirm information on your parcel number given and I see we anticipated the arrival from UPS of your package back on November 21, 2011. I do however never show that we received your package in Chesapeake. I would like to offer my personal apology as I have had things never arrive. One solution that has worked is calling the sender and letting them know the item was never "Delivered" or "Attempted" to you. They can verify that information themselves with their tracking number and should replace your merchandise. I again regret the inconvenience.

Unfortunately, an occasional piece of mail may fail to reach its destination. When mail items are found during our processing operations, they are collected in the "loose-in-the-mail" section of the Post Office. The item(s) are held for 7 days pending a match with a sender or an addressee. However, at times no match occurs. Sometimes an item will find its way to the Mail Recovery Center (MRC) in Atlanta, GA. Items of value will be held at the MRC for 90 days. The information you have provided will be shared with management as they continue their efforts to improve service performance in your area.

Reports of mail loss greatly concern us.

An apology is no substitute for good service, but I want to offer one on behalf of the Postal Service. We appreciate your reporting this matter to us. It helps to know the kinds of difficulties our customers have so we can work toward improvements. The loss of any piece of mail is as disappointing to us as it is to you.

Thank you for the opportunity to address this matter with you.

XXXX XXXX

********** "

I like how they expect Amazon to replace my purchase because the PO 'lost' it, lol. Sounds like if you're a retailer you have to pony up for their mistakes.

My problem has NEVER been with USPS. We have always received our items within a timely manner with them. My problem has been with UPS. UPS use to love to leave my packages sitting on top of my mail box a 1/2 mile from my home. Last year he left DH's Sony Vaio that I ordered him for Christmas from BB on BF hanging from our mailbox when it was snowing. I had tracked the package all day long and when it started tracking as delivered I call UPS. They told me it had been left on my MB. I was steaming mad, but that is not what finally put a stop to it. This year a package from Amazon was scanned as delivered when it was no where to be found. Well, I called UPS to find out where it was, and they told me I had to call Amazon to get it resolved because they handle that themselves. I don't know what happened there, but needless to say UPS driver always delivers to my home now.

Another fine example of why the USPS can't stay afloat...I placed an order on buy.com for two Wii Nunchuks, and two LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean Wiimotes from a third party seller through buy.com at the same time. They were both shipped out on 12/2 from CA, arrived at the P.O. in Lancaster, PA (only about 7 miles from my own P.O.) on December 9th, and were supposed to be delivered to me by the 11th. So the 11th was a Sunday, and on Monday, I looked at the tracking, and there was no activity since being logged in on the 9th. On the 14th, the nunchuk package tracking changed to reflect that after arriving here in Lancaster, my package went to NC, and was now currently in Philly. It arrived on the 14th. The other package, the one I REALLY wanted, just showed up the following day, with no change in the tracking, just apparently sitting for 6 days. Then to top it off, the remotes were all smashed, like someone sat on them, (and they were only in a poly mailer, so not well packaged, either) so I had to call the third party seller and explain all of this. Luckily, that day he sent out two new remotes via Priority Mail, and they were on my doorstep on Monday (and in a cardboard box this time!)...

I've had a similar one last week. The item arrved at my local PO coming in from NC, then went to MD, back to NC, then to me. It took an extra three days, but I got it, lol.

JewelryTV screwed my mom this year. She called one morning 2 weeks ago from brothers house where she was babysitting and talked to some "genius" who she repeated the address to 5 times. Each time she asked them to confirm and they'd leave the street number out. Eventually they read it back correctly and she was advised MY christmas gift would be here for Christmas. She's called a few times since to check status and was told yesterday the person who took order had NOT entered street number therefor there's a package with our house number and zip out for delivery.

She told me all upset that my Christmas gift wouldn't arrive on time and what had happened and I told her to cancel it. So I called up hoping to arrange overnight shipping or a discount or something and all I get is "I'm sorry this happened, it sounds like user error". I promptly told rep to cancel order and explained the lack of care shown to my mother over the last week and indeed on day order placed.

The kicker, she ordered a tanzanite ring and the order cancelled was for a topaz ring. The rep asked me to return it should it be delivered, I'm not holding my breath "house# SW Place" does that seem like a complete address to anyone?

Wow! How rude! Omg. I guess tis the season for some companies but they are at fault, not your mom. I hate companies that do this. This is why I do not mail order, or at least very rarely. Reading the threads about wrong items sent or never received scares me.

Last year I had placed an order on the after Christmas sales online with Hollister. It was for around $140 worth of clothes for my son. It came by USPS with delivery confirmation to my PO Box. However, it was never delivered to me. The post office told me that it had been picked up. I think what happened is they put the notice in someone else's PO Box who then went up and received the package at the counter. Since they never asked for identification, it went to the wrong person who obviously kept it. When I filed a complaint, the post master told me it is the post offices job to just deliver the mail - but not necessarily to the right person. I couldn't believe my ears. They would not make good on it. They told me to argue it out with Hollister. Hollister RELUCTANTLY made good on it (had to argue this one too because they had proof that it had been delivered) but by that time it was a refund because everything I had ordered was sold out. And stupid me thought it was safer having it sent to my PO Box rather than lying on my front porch until I got home from work.

That is pretty incredulous of the post office to say that but I suppose they can turn around and claim it's theft on the other persons behalf which is a federal crime.
