Gporter34 Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 I was at Target this weekend and picked up one of those poles to use to hang lights on the outside of the house. It looks really easy and comes with 50 hooks for the gutters. You can also use this for putting lights in trees. I think it will be easier than a ladder. Has anyone else ever used one of these???
JenT1292 Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 I've never seen or heard of it. Let us know how it works!
verusca Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 I have never heard of it before either?? we use a ladder since we put lights on our trees outside too.
Guest all2tired Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Never heard of it either, I use my husband LOL
Aaron Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Do you have some pictures or a link? :) I'd love to see them.
Gporter34 Posted November 7, 2005 Author Posted November 7, 2005 Sorry, I had to run to the grocery store.lol Okay, I'm going to see if Target has it online...
Gporter34 Posted November 7, 2005 Author Posted November 7, 2005 Okay, I found it here online... http://www.christmasontv.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=34&ref=3I bought it at Target for $19.99. It has the 11ft. pole and 50 clips. You can also use this for trees.
erh12275 Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 I have never even heard of one...let alone used one. May I ask what it cost? Edited to say...nevermind...shoulda read ahead.
Gporter34 Posted November 7, 2005 Author Posted November 7, 2005 I believe this will turn out to be a wise investment. I want to finish putting up my outside lights but the wind has been too high here for the past few days to climb on a ladder.
JBKing Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 I had something similar that worked pretty well, until DD and her friend took it apart and had a sword fight with two sections!
Gporter34 Posted November 8, 2005 Author Posted November 8, 2005 I used it this evening to put the lights on the house and it works great! I am very pleased with it, it's worth the money. I definitely recommend this to anyone who is not comfortable with ladders. I am afraid of heights so this was a good thing for me.lol Every year we argued about who was getting on the ladder, not anymore.
berry Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Here in Richmond, Va. There's actually a tour of the houses with Christmas lights. It's called the Tacky Light Tour. It's one household trying to out do the other. You fix a thermos of hot chocolate and grap a bag of homemade cookies and hit the road.
Gporter34 Posted November 8, 2005 Author Posted November 8, 2005 I would love that because I can never seem to have enough lights outside. I add every year but still not satisfied. Hubby and kids get a good laugh watching me bring home more and more decorations to go in the yard.
JanaBanana Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Wish it were longer then 11 feet... it wont work for our house as our roof is 30+ feet from the ground and 24 feet from the balcony to the roof..... DH so wants to put lights up too oaround the roof but is unable to for this reason
Gporter34 Posted November 8, 2005 Author Posted November 8, 2005 Wish it were longer then 11 feet... it wont work for our house as our roof is 30+ feet from the ground and 24 feet from the balcony to the roof..... DH so wants to put lights up too oaround the roof but is unable to for this reason This may still work for you. Using a ladder, you could probably reach the higher places on your house with this pole. I'm not sure, but it may work.
JanaBanana Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 It just might:D Its the shape of the roof thats scary, A-Frame Chalet style and we get a ton of snow here....http://photobucket.com/albums/v238/JanaD/th_P1010863.jpg
Gporter34 Posted November 8, 2005 Author Posted November 8, 2005 That is so pretty! I wish we got more snow. We're lucky if we get one good snow every year.lol
Jenniferharrison82 Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Ive never heard of it either, but will definetly look into it. Might make my decorating easier :)

DH so wants to put lights up too oaround the roof but is unable to for this reason We have the same problem Split level house! We wait for DD to come home from college and then DH and DD climb up on the roof and do them! Not me, though, I'm terrified of heights!
outnumbered Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 It sounds like a great idea. I haven't ever decorated outside while living here but I remember my dad getting up on a ladder and walking around on the roof back home in years past. This sounds much safer!
wallsjessica Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Sounds good I too would like toknow if it works because Iam the one who does the decorating around here and if I don't have to get on the ladder well that would be GREAT!!!!!!!
mrsbmb Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 I live in an apartment complex townhouse.. there is no outside plug to plug in and i dont want my window open so i just decorate all the windows from the inside. i use clear packaging tape and tape them right to the window. it works excellent. Also remember "glass wax" its a cleaner for glass or metals? its a pink liquid. you put it on windows let it dry then polish off the powder? I use this instead of the spray snow at christmas. it is hard to find. i did get it at walmart about three yrs ago. it dries nice doesnt come off unless rubbed with a cloth. is easier to remove than spray snow and is cleaning your window when you take it off. i use a sponge and swirl the stuff on leaving a big clear oval where i put my animated santa in the picture window. it looks great. the stuff goes on pink but dries white? It looks like clouds. kathy
Peshua Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 have never used one personally but have seen ppl use them and it looked like once you got the hang of it, it would be pretty easy at least easier than going up and down a ladder Jess? you mean you actually took yours down last year??????
juliegirl Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 We need one of those! It make me nervous when my dh gets up on the roof. He says it's no big deal. Last year, he let my then 8 y.o. son climb up the ladder, too! I was so mad!
Gporter34 Posted November 14, 2005 Author Posted November 14, 2005 I have used mine to put up all of the lights around the outside of the house and it worked great. The clips that come with it work on gutters, and shingles. It was a welcomed change here. I hate getting on the ladder and hubby and son argue over who's turn it is.lol This solved all of those problems. I just stuck it in the corner so I can use it to take them down after Christmas. As soon as I get finished with everything else in the yard, I will post a pic.
ajburlingame Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 No. Husband does the decorating outside, I do the decorating inside.
alimfp Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Oh, that sounds interesting. I think we'll still borrow the neighbors ladder to hang ours though.. I have yet to hang lights on this house, I need to inspect and see how easy (hopefully) it'll be. Our last house was a PITA to hang them!
