Tessangel Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I think that I do to some extent. My kids have alot more then I could have dreamed of as a kid. We were poor honestly both me and my husband. I am determined to not go over board this year. But we will see what happens!! How about you??
Guest bigjhowe Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I don't have to, I generally chose to spend more than I should I guess. I think its worth it if you can afford to.
ebony0421 Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I am a bargain hunter but even doing that I can get carried away. I will try and place limits on my spending.
Boilerhoss Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I set a limit to spend on the kids every year. This year we have had a good year so we are spending a little more than normal. We usually buy 1 large ticket item and the rest is toys and clothes. This year both boys have asked for Power Wheels Vehicles!! Not sure if Santa will find them on sale or not? The one on sale at Walmart I dont think it will work because of the weight limit.
elena_398 Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I know I spend too much. My kids are spoiled, but not rotten :)
happysunshine28 Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I dont think I do, but other people think I do.
best4less Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Yeah, I know I do but being able to see their faces when they open all their "cool" gifts makes it all worth it :)
erh12275 Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I dont think I do, but other people think I do.Why is it others insist on putting their in? Hubby has one family member who insists on telling me how to raise my 10 month old. Now I could see if she had several more children than I or if my kids were messed up...but she has one and this baby makes #4 and my others are happy and healthy and everyone adores them. Ok gettin down off my
Stowasser Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 YES! BUT I DO IT FOR EVERYONE IN THE FAMILY, I FIND GREAT BARGAINS AND USUALLY CAN END UP WITH CHRISTMAS PAYING FOR ITSELF SOMEHOW......
Jenniferharrison82 Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I don't think I do either, but some other do. It's nobody's business though...they are only young once..
alimfp Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I don't think I do either. Each of my kids gets one or two toys for Christmas each year. Now granted, they are all toddlers (3, 3 and 1) and I know we'll buy more quantity wise as they get older. But for now, this is just right. With what they get from the Grandparents, we don't need to buy them anything really. LOL.
Jean Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know that I spend to much .. Yes she is spoiled ... But she is a good spoiled Rotten..LOL!!!
lovebears65 Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I must admit I do go overboard at Christmas. I think it stems of growing up dirt poor and just having the bear minimim I over compensate . I dont know why but I do. My kids have every electronic known LOL from PS2 Xbox Gamecube to PSP and DS We are thinking of getting the 360 for christmas have one on hold but not sure since kids want computers..
orangedaisy Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 My husband tries to put a limit on each kid, but to be honest, I can't help but overspend if I have the $$$ to do it. I love giving gifts, I love shopping for gifts, and especially for people I love more than myself - my kids. So I don't see the harm if you have some extra money and it makes you happy, why not?
orangedaisy Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Oh and I am another one who didn't get much growing up - there were 4 of us and we were 2 years apart. Each Christmas the piles got smaller.
starshine Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I try not to go to far over board. I usually buy one big item and a bunch of small stuff that I have been collecting all year. Some years I forget what I have bought and when I pull it out of the closet I can't believe it! This year has not been bad I haven't gone to far overboard for my 8 year old. The 15 and 16 year old step kids are getting cash. I don't know what to buy them any more and everyone loves green!
tinycaramel Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Who doesn't. We always have this "amount" that we are not going to pass knowing we are going to go way over it. We just like to see our kids happy to get everything they wanted for the holidays. It's just in us to do it and it makes us happy to see our kids happy.
timbermommy Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I fully intend to be the mom that gets looked back on for going completely insane with christmas... it looks like santa exploded in my front room each year and i intend on it staying that way.. My children also have 7 sets of grandparents that help that explosion take place as well!
Kygal2003 Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 My husband and I didn't get much as kids either so we do tend to buy our kids too much. We buy one BIG item for each of the three and then smaller items that we try to set a set amount of $ on (but never stick to it).
Gporter34 Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I probably do, but they are good kids and they deserve it. It comes from my mom and my grandparents going out of their way to make sure I got pretty much everything I wanted for Christmas when I was little, even if they didn't have much. I feel like I need to give them alot. I always stop and think, how would I feel if I were them? So, I over do it to keep them smilimg and they always end up smiling even if they don't get what they want. There is always someone who will try to say that I give them too much, or spoil them, I just ask them WHO HAD THESE KIDS? Then they usually shut the h*ll up!!! lol
bayhaysay Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I don't think that I do. My kids usually get 1 "big" present, and the rest are just normal toys and clothes.
JazzMama Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I do tend to go overboard. I love seeing her smile when she sees all of her presents. I'm just thankful that my husband and I are able to get the things that she wants. We always stress the importance of charity and thankfulness to her. She loves to help me shop for toys for charities, so I think she's turning out just fine.
gijimenez Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I go overboard on Christmas but I only spend on children I don't give adults anything
ryka Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I don't think I do but my husband thinks i do. If it were up to him the kids would get one present each and that is it. I could never do that.
gijimenez Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I fully intend to be the mom that gets looked back on for going completely insane with christmas... it looks like santa exploded in my front room each year and i intend on it staying that way.. My children also have 7 sets of grandparents that help that explosion take place as well! 7 sets of grandparents:g_clap: They are lucky and probably spoiled.
Gloey Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I go nuts at Christmas! My husband yells at me but I just can't help myself. Last year when my granddaughter was just turning two, his parents didn't even buy her anything because between the two grandmoms she got so much. This year I have started already (August) and keep going. Its like an obsession with me to buy this kid stuff.
Hummingbird Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 We definitely go overboard at Christmas. We usually buy alot of things but now that they're getting older we are buying the more expensive things so they won't get as much stuff. But why have kids if you can't spoil them at Christmas time???
floridasun5 Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I used to spend way too much, but have cut down considerably since last year. My dd (12) doesnt necessarily appreciate anything anyway as she is a spoiled only child who expects us to do stuff for her, and the stuff usually just winds up on her bedroom floor getting trampled on anyway. I have been trying to talk my parents into not buying her toys and little stuff anymore that she is growing up, but they wont listen. She is only getting a few things from dh and I, but one is a laptop with accessories, so no, I dont spend too much anymore.
