t_mulkey Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 Isn't BF a national holiday. Well I would vote for it to be. lol
lesliepear Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 The place my husband works for as a consultant is closed that day. My employer isn't, but I've got the request in and approved :)
oldandintheway Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 My DH and I both have a lot of vacation time saved up, so we took off the week of Thanksgiving through Wednesday of the following week.
lovebears65 Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 No I am not offically off I did request that day off but got denied But already told my supervisor I will not be there. I work in a call center and It will be considered an occurance ( we are allowed 10 per year) and I have not had any this year so I am not worried about taking that day off . My supervisor told me to enjoy the day and might even have me find some stuff for him LOL
sgtboots Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 I work for a utility company and we have BF off. So many people called off or took vacation, they decided to just close and make it a holiday for us! That is OK with me!
liquidblue13 Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 DH always has Thanksgiving and the day after off. I had always requested off for BF and told them they could either approve it or do without me since i never take a vacation or ask for time of, even work when I'm sick, so they always approve the day off. This year, I put in for some vacation time since I have 14 days of it I need to use up. They changed the policy and if it's not used by Dec.31, we lose it. So I'm taking Nov 23 - 25 technically off on Saturday and Sunday. Then the rest of my time gets used up over christmas and I put in to have the first week off in Jan. just so I could shop and watch ballgames.
wbss26 Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 My company gives up Thanksgiving and the day after off. Doesn't get any better than that.
shanni Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 Im a Stay at Home Mom so Im off for BF. Haha. My husband's office shuts down for Thankgiving and BF every year so I always have someone home with the kids when I go outI'm a stay at home too, and my husband always gets this day off! He's kind enough to go with me, and our 15 year old watches his 9 year old sister for us, we just have to promise to take him out to eat sometime that day.
Gporter34 Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 I will not be working on that day, but if I were, I would try to take off for it.lol
jadedmomof2 Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 I have put in my request to have the day off, the November schedule isn't done yet though, so who knows if I got it off or not.
cdeuser Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 I am off for the day and planning on shopping until I drop. I have a ds who will be 1 yr old and I can't wait to by all the latest toys. My mil will watch my ds until my dh gets off work. He's not a shopper anyway. Luckily my sister will be going with me and my neice so we do group shopping and help each other find all the deals. Walmart is on my list for this year.
erh12275 Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 I am a SAHM...but when I wasn't I always HAD to be off. But now I make hubby take off...so he can either watch the kids or come w/ me.
AuntJamelle Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 I put in my PTO request for Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday about 2 weeks ago. My boss hasn't approved it yet - but I'm sure she just hasn't checked that far out for requets yet. I'm pretty sure it's not going to be a problem. Can't wait!
caseyslilangel Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 yep but I"m a sahm so I sort of take my own days off for stuff like this.LOL
Tbasket Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 My favorite day off, have to use a floating holiday, but I wouldn't miss it. About 20 years ago (telling my age) I though that I would try and work, but only made it until 9:00 am, had to shop. I think my boss is planning on me working this year, but that is not going to happen. There is no way that I could stand to be at work while everyone else is getting all the deals.
melrose6 Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 I am so glad that I have the day off! Two of my friends and I leave the kids at home shop all day!
all4linkae Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Im a SAHM but my hubby always has the day after off! Works out well :)
cami_reardon Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 I do!! I'm always off on Fridays because I do flea markets and antique shows every weekend, BUT I don't have one scheduled (and I won't do one) for that weekend. *S* Gotta love BF!!
alimfp Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 I imagine I'll be working if I *EVER* get a job that is. Sigh. I hope I'll have time to get up early and hit up a few stores before I have to be at work (I just pray I have a job by then though).
abram87 Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 I have already asked off, and the only working I will be doing is on the aisles of my favorite stores! WooHOO!
Guest Luckycharm Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Since I work for myself, I gave myself the day off
fairydustcrissy Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Since I work for myself, I gave myself the day off You must have a great boss to do that :)
gijimenez Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 I am suppose to work. But I can use a vacation day.
caligurl Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 it's a workday... but i take a vacation day... hubby usually works so he doesn't have to go shopping with me! (i love this little bootie shaker!)
codeblue Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 Response to alimfp When you get a job, just tell the employer that you already have plans for that day and you will not be able to work. You don't have to tell them you will be shopping. Good Luck.
bargaindvdshopper Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 I always take off Black Friday to shop. :)
Postal Phil Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 I work for the USPS and for the past few years I have taken BF off and I have submitted for it this year too.
buckwheat_jegc Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 This is a new job for me, but I'm pretty sure I'll be off that day.
