lukesmom01 Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Has anyone ordered stuff online BF and then not gotten what they ordered? Like last year I remember posts (not sure if it was on here or somewhere else) about people who ordered stuff online on BF and the order goes through, they get a confirmation number and then a week later they get an email saying the stuff is backordered, or something like that, and and in some cases it wouldn't be shipped until after Christmas. I would love to get some of my list taken care of online but I'm afraid something like that would happen and I wouldn't find as good of a deal after BF.
bigjimslade Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 If you want to be sure you get what you need I would avoid the online sales. In years past servers have crashed and some stores have oversold. To me the technology is not there just yet and I would not take a chance.
tinkrbel Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 there were some threads about delays/items not available last year. I specifically remember one about Zune's from a non-major retailer. My online stuff was mostly for myself and from Amazon which gives you an estimated delivery time before purchase. I've reenlisted in prime this year for quick delivery and no minimum purchase for free delivery :) I would second BigJim's comments. I will forever try to order stuff online before heading to store but just be aware that it may fall through. I have problems with Sears on regular sale items and Kohl's too (just not as much) so based on past experiences would stay away from purchasing any MUST HAVE's from Sears online. I'd say a good 50% of my online orders have been returned unavailable and that's only to avoid driving to store to find out item is sold out.
freesia39 Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 I spent FOREVER on Kohl's website last year trying to get my order through. I actually got all my items but I nearly threw my computer out the window.
jaymacfla Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 We used our Laptops to order from Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart. This was done while being camped in front of Best Buy and using free Wi-Fi from a restaurant nearby. This helped mitigate a rather mediocre Black Friday. All of the orders went through.
fluffkin79 Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 I've gotten everything I ordered online. My only real problem has been the items I got from Walmart being lower quality than I expected. I did order my sister's washer and dryer from Sears and we got it, but it took a week or two for them to get delivered to the store. Of course, if it was a must-have item I would rather pick it up in store, just to be sure.
Kim3498 Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 I ordered most of my major items on my shopping list online last year. Seeing as both of my guys are electronics junkies, everything I bought was from BestBuy. I sat up all night until the BF items finally went on sale. I think it was around 3:00 am in my time zone. Made for a LONG night, but I did get everything that I ordered.
happysunshine28 Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 I try to order as much as I can online, never got canceled.
mom8w Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Mixed results here...two years ago, I ordered a couple of things from ToysRUs online, no trouble...last year, not everything went live at once...I was trying to combine everything in order to qualify for free shipping, but by the time everything was updated to BF prices on the site, some of the toys I wanted were sold out. What I ordered came, no problem, but I was disappointed in the way things went overall. I haven't had any trouble with walmart purchases online, and the items I wanted were available...nothing cancelled. No big ticket items, of course. Hope this helps a little.
lukesmom01 Posted September 13, 2010 Author Posted September 13, 2010 thanks everyone! after hearing everyone's responses, I think I will take the risk b/c I am not willing to camp out 2 days to get the laptop and hdtv DS wants.
Ravenseye Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 I had no problem ordering and receiving what I ordered last year from both Amazon and Old Navy. I highly recommend it actually!
sweetdiggity Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 I've never had a problem ordering online and getting my items. I make sure to find out approximately when the sale will start by store (thanks to this site :) and be ready to put the items in the cart and check out. It also helps to know if the items you want will be online, as not everything is. Just be ready when the sale goes live, be quick and you should be ok. Last year I ordered from Amazon and Walmart.com with no problems, and I got a lot of stuff!
EliteABombAZ Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Last year I had 3 or 4 items cut from my Old Navy online order.
SweetCanela Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 I order all electronics online. I plan to get a new GPS online. I only get things at stores that no one is fighting for like clothes.
pattiv Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 i had trouble last year with bath and body works wanted to get their bag ended up staying up all night finally got one. did all my other shopping on line then slept but is wasn't as fun as going out!
Jen8112 Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Last year I got my Garmin GPS that I wanted at radioshack.com with free shipping. I was very nervous, first time ordering online on BF, but I got it with no problems. :)
H_Hancock Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Did quite a bit online last year, mostly from Amazon and some from Newegg. Saved a bunch of time, effort, and money, and all our orders went through and arrived the next day. Prime membership does help.
Swampbaby Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Year before last I ordered a Dell laptop for hubby. Almost didn't get it in time for Christmas and it was supposed to be one of the ship next day items. Other than that one item, I've had excellent delivery of items ordered.
lilac100 Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Hot Topic really screwed up my order last year. I think I ended up losing about $13 on the deal and finally just chalked it up to a lesson learned. I won't buy anything from them again so they've lost more than $13 on the deal. I was spending upwards of $300 there just the during Christmas season. Now I just find it usually on Amazon just a little harder to get everything but worth the extra effort.
arress Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 The last 2 years I have ordered strictly all my Black Friday shopping online... And I have had great success. If I spend 10 dollars more and not have to stay outside for hours on end it is worth it to me..Good luck!
happyrat Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 thanks everyone! after hearing everyone's responses, I think I will take the risk b/c I am not willing to camp out 2 days to get the laptop and hdtv DS wants. I would also check out Newegg http://www.gottadeal.com/Shop/Neweggcom and check the prices on Tvs there. I bought my tv there a couple of years ago and got a better deal than most places had on black Friday. It was an open box but I got an $1800 tv for $1000. Most of their stuff is new but the really great stuff is in the open box section.
amyers12345 Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 I don't think there's as much of an issue with online shopping as there was in year's past. I think everyone sort of learned from the Walmart crisis a few years ago. I've ordered lots of things online in the past couple of years and not had a problem. And the good thing is that the sales start early enough that if you do miss out, you can still head out and try to get it.
angelbabymommy Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Do you guys have your "shopping carts" already filled with the stuff you wanna purchase then hurry up & click "submit" when the items go on sale? ....this would be my first year trying, but if I could at least order from Walmart, I would be happy. That is if they don't do the 24 hour thing again. If they do that, I could go early, get my stuff & just have my friend pay for it for me while I hit my other store & meet up with her later.
bpr Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Some stores will not allow you to put it in your shopping cart ahead of time. Some make special numbers for items so they are not the same as what is currently on their sites.
glm777 Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 I found that I had the best luck ordering online for in-store pickup if offered. In fact, i ordered 2 cameras from Sears a few years ago and when went to pick them up they only had one available. So they upgraded both cameras to ones that were about $60 more with much nicer features, for the sale price. I've also had very good luck with Walmart. I order everything online (I get on just before midnight) and pick it up after I've been to the stores that don't offer in store pickup. Last year I ordered sevral things from amazon (signed up for Amazon prime a few weeks before) and had no trouble at all. But all that being said - I really missed the Black Friday experience the year I orderd evrything online - I love being at the stores in the wee hours of the morning!
Cblaramore Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 I ordered a Wii Bundle off Walmart's website on BF at 4am and had no problem. I even have a super slow computer and it brought it right up. I did have the order sent to the store so I didn' thave to pay shipping and it was ready in less than 5 days!

Yes, I do! I always have stuff I want on Amazon in my cart, just waiting for the right price, lol
ken9455 Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Last year was the first BF that I did alot of shopping online, probably more than 50%. Never had a problem with anything being late:)
sbwolfer Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 I did all of my BF shopping online last year because I had a 3 week old baby and wasn't about to take her out for BF. I ordered a ton of stuff from Kohl's. There website took forever and a day for stuff to go through and I had to try several times to place the order but I got everything I wanted. My only problem was that they sent a pair of jeans with a security tag on them! I've never had that happen with an online order before. So I had to take them to the store anyway to have the tag removed.
jstluvem Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 I also did alot of on line shopping while camping out last year.I was in line at walmart for one of the xbox deals and on amazon at the same time. The amazon deal went thru first so I handed my ticket to a dad and told him Merry Christmas.Had no problem with anything.FedX and UPS guys became like family ...lol
