  1. Just a suggestion for anyone who really wants their tree up now. A few years ago I set mine up in early October because I was being Mrs. Clause for Halloween and it made sense that I would have a tree. I also gave out candy canes for trick or treaters. Make a whole Christmas thing for halloween.
  2. So I've been seeing the media coverage. They have been going on and on about how much shopping was done online. They can't figure out the exact why of it. I have a theory. My theory is with the stores opening on Thanksgiving people don't want to leave their families to go shopping but they can't afford to miss the sales. So if stores go back to opening on Friday maybe they have a better shot at actual foot traffic. The whole point of loss leaders is to get you into the store to buy things not on sale. When shopping online you are less likely to impulse buy a pancake turner to go with the skillet that is on sale. Anyway that is my take on the jump in online sales this year. That's why I did mine online. I could shop while the Turkey was in the oven before anyone got here.
  3. OfficeDepot the HP 15.6 laptop 7th gen i7 with ssd for $499 this morning.
  4. I have never actually been able to go to Menards. They are busier then walmart around here on Black Friday.
  5. Guess Penny's is out. Trying to avoid Thanksgiving shopping and this 3:00 thing is ridiculous. How are their employee's supposed to have any kind of family time like that? Maybe I'm just getting too old to deal with it.
  6. So I truly used to love Black Friday. I had traditions and planned for weeks before hand. I don't know if it the stores opening on Thanksgiving or maybe my kids getting older but I don't really care anymore. I can't see leaving my family on Thanksgiving to go and buy stuff. I remember I would leave the house around midnight and go to Denny's for breakfast with the ads and my sister. We would decide together what the first store would be. We would be in line somewhere around 2-3am. My favorite memory was going by myself one year and standing in line at Toys R Us for some stupid "lab" that my son wanted that I couldn't afford on a normal day. I actually got him one and I was so broke and so happy to finally be able to get him something he wanted. If it hadn't been over half off I wouldn't have been able to get it. The last time I think I actually enjoyed it was around 7 years ago when Target had CDs for a ridiculous price so I bought like 15 of them. It doesn't seem to be about kids stuff or family time anymore. Its all electronics and opening during family time. I'm not sure if I will be able to muster up enough caring to even go out this year.
  7. I remember KBToys saved me in my broke years. I miss them so much. Also Circuit City was always awesomeness.
  8. The news I watched made it sound like this year was a sales disappointment to retailers opening earlier. They expected a bigger uptake and didn't get it. What they got was their normal holiday weekend sales.
  9. I'll probably spend around $500 I'll be doing probably all my shopping online and the number of stores is limitless, can't decide what I want to get people. I've been doing online since my back went out in 09 so I figure I'll stick with that again. It's just easier then standing in lines.
  10. Ok usually the weekend of Thanksgiving. This year is somewhat different, it's going up this Sunday. I've decided to be Mrs Clause for Halloween and decorate and hand out candy canes to trick or treaters. It won't all be done but the tree will be up and the door will have lights and whatnot.
  11. Gotta say I love Menards front page of their ad. I respect their decision to stay closed on Thanksgiving, they may be the only store I go to this year. I just can't support opening on Thanksgiving. I love Black Friday. It was the only way I could afford Christmas for my son when he was little. I remember being outside of Toys R Us at 4am and the news there covering it 18 years ago. Can't believe my memories are all that is going to be left of Black Friday. I'll miss the craziness. Guess I'll just take the day and do something relaxing since I have the day off.
  12. I decided I will not shop on Thanksgiving day unless it's online. There is nothing I need badly enough to force workers away from their families. It's sad, with all the days they could run a good sale they choose to take away from their employee's families just to make more money. I'm truly sickened by it. I've always been one of the nut jobs out at 2-3am Friday. Just can't believe it's gone this far.
  13. If you belong to sams club look at their website under auctions. TV's go for fairly cheap.
  14. I promise to come to GottaDeal all year long to check out the great deals.
