As you prepare your Thanksgiving feast...

There are many people that will not be able to afford a Thanksgiving meal of their own- some for the first time in their lives. Please consider donating a Turkey or roast or what ever you can to your local food bank. I know myself, we are able to celebrate this year -ONLY because of an EXTREMELY well timed break. Many people won't get that this year....

I don't mean to be a bummer, but it is something so simple, that we, or at I took it for granted for far too long.

Please do what you can to support your local food bank.

Thanks guys!:yup:

A great reminder! I am so upset, as a GM of a restaurant I contacted our local food bank, asking if I could get our customers to donate food, and I would give them free menu items, I was told they already take part in another fundraiser and ours would only interfere. Have you ever heard of a food pantry turning down offers???

Never in my life have I heard of a pantry turning down an offer. Have you called your local Y? Some of them provide shelter for homeless women and I am sure they would welcome anything they can get.

Will check- my plan Monday was to start calling around to find someone willing to accept help!

Keep us updated about your search. I am still shaking my head at the thought of a food pantry not taking you up on your generous offer. So many people are in dire straits this year that most food pantrys are begging for more donations.

I got my baby stuff today, next week I will get regular food. I intend to alternate between baby food and food for older children and adults. It's so easy to donate, all a person has to do is add a few extra cans or boxed containers of food on their shopping list.

OMGosh, how cute!!! I wish I wasn't so creatively inept!

And how kind of you to devote so much time to helping others! You aren't only making them food, you're putting a lot of time and effort into making a special dinner.

I hope everything goes perfectly for your dinner and God bless!

GREAT reminder!!! I know food banks around here are always needing donations, as the newspaper posts frequent articles about it.

Another idea, if you have someone in your neighborhood that you think could use help for the holidays, prepare a box full of whatever you can come up with for a holiday meal, set it on their door step, knock on door, and run like mad! I am sure they won't turn it down or leave it outside.

My church youth group during high school used to do this. We would hide in some bushes or something and watch. It was so nice, and sad at the same time, to watch the people's faces when they realized what was in the box.

Ingredients

1 cup vanilla frosting

7 drops yellow food coloring

32 miniature peanut butter cups

1 package (11-1/2 ounces) fudge-striped cookies

32 pieces orange mini Chiclets gum

Directions

In a small shallow bowl, combine frosting and food coloring. Remove paper liners from peanut butter cups.

Holding the bottom of a peanut butter cup, dip top of cup in yellow frosting. Position over center hole on the bottom of cookie, forming the hatband and crown. Add a buckle of Chiclets gum. Repeat with remaining cups and cookies. Yield: 32 cookies.

Thank you so much I will be trying to make these Thursday!!!
