  1. I just confirmed with an Amazon rep that in fact the new ones do not have the free browser (thank you, I had one on preorder that my husband does not want now). And even on the ones with free 3G they put it on as an experimental browser and all of the experimental options can be turned off by Amazon at any time (in the fine print). So free 3G could end at any time as well.
  2. I'm not sure what a good price is on this but Leapfrog.com has a starter bundle for $140 with $40 app cards, so bascially $100. There is a code OCTOBDAY that is 15% off but doesn't work on the LeapPad, just the accessories. There is also free shipping on orders over $60 right now. Shouldn't need a code, but SWEETDEAL is supposed to work for free shipping too.

There doesn't appear to be any other codes right now.

After looking on Amazon I guess $100 is normal price so this may be of no help unless you are buying accessories as well, then the code should work.

  3. I have the one with 3G, WiFi and special offers. Mine is the last release with the keyboard. Getting DH the new touch this year. This model does have a very basic web browser that works free with 3G.

If you pick one that comes in special offers vs. without special offers, i would save the $40 and get the offers. They don't appear when you are reading at all, only as the screen image when it's turned off. Most of them are some sort of Amazon discount and in just a couple months I've saved half the original cost of my kindle.

I would be hesitant to get a tablet for someone who is going to use it mainly for reading. non-tablets use e-ink technology that looks like paper and doesn't strain the eyes. Tablets use LCD screens and reading on them DOES strain eyes. But certainly ask which one she wants because the Kindle Fire is a tablet.

  4. Just remember that 3D should not be used for children under 7 (all 3DS items print this warning). My son bought his this summer and he just turned 9. We told him to limit the 3D part of it but left it up to him. We didn't have to waste our breath, within a day he decided he didn't care for the 3D that much. Says it hurts his eyes to play it in 3D. BUT the great thing about the 3DS is there is a slider switch to adjust from no 3D to strong 3D or wherever you feel like in between. There are no "settings" to access so it can't be changed at any time. Granted if you tell them no 3D and they want it, it's just as easy to turn it on.

My son had upgraded from a DSlite to the 3DS and his sister has a DSi. Lite has the benefit of playing gameboy games, but he felt his sister's DSi was far superior. We didn't turn internet on yet for either one, but for some reason they love to brag about having it, lol.

Without 3D the 3DS is just like a DSi with a second 3D camera. I think everyone compared your options pretty well so I won't repeat all that. I would almost always suggest getting the newest system (3DS in this case). It's going to be the last of the options to get completely outdated.

As for age wise, our kids both got theirs when they turned 7. 6 is not too young for a DS, it's when they both started asking.

  5. What are the main differences between the mini and the platinum? I'm not sure which one I need? Can the mini heat up hot water too?

Mini doesn't have a reservoir, you have to put water into it each time and it has no programmable features, but then it works the same inside.

We LOVE our Keurig. For me the mini is annoying. Go for the Platinum B70. When i wake up its already on and takes less than a minute to brew. I don't drink coffee at all, just tea, hot chocolate and hot cider, dh drinks the coffee though.

Best deal is Costco. $139 with 60 cups and the reusable filter. Next best is bed bath and beyond with 20% off coupon. Stock up on coupons and BBB is cheap for cups. Free shipping from the beyond store too (only accessible online - in store) and they accept coupons too. Extra flavors online.

Don't forget to register your machine and do the buy 2 get 2 at Keurig.com

  6. We are in the same boat but did the walmart 2 for 40, Fred Meyer b2g1 and watched prices on amazon. Tru often does b1g 1 50% off which equals the Fred Meyer one. We watch legos all year, buy during the deals and save them. He won't get all we bought for Xmas, too many.
  7. well i know those are expensive but if i could find just lightweight ones if they make them that he can use for undershirts everyday. he says regular cotton ones keep bunchin up at the shoulders

i got him some last year to wear for outer shirts i was just wondering if they make some that are lighter for undershirt use?

Yes they make them, I have some. If you don't want moisture ones then the prices aren't as bad. 5.11 tactical also makes good light weight ones that I have too. Fred meyer sell ua. As do lots of police and tactical stores. Prices are usually a little better there than sports stores. Or find a ua outlet store. One of those things that doesn't often go on sale too much.
