Perimeter Perusing at Target (Target Clearance Deals) - 2007
Stowasser replied to 1angelnhvn's topic in Offline Hot Deals
Interesting you mentioned "shopping" while on duty, I got there at 8 so definitely the first one back there and about 20 mins into the looking, I notice that one of the gals that was back there (employee) was randomly taking items off the shelves. I didn't pay attention because I thought she was organizing or something, but it was oddball things like bowls which seem appropriate for the area I was looking at. I was asking about some of the food items and she told me if they aren't ringing up than they are not on sale, so I did see that they had pulled them and was sitting int he middle of the floor, well I went around a endcap by their back storage doors was a cart with those random items in it. I was tempted to ask them if it was overstocks etc but I decided to stand and watch and two of them were walking around with their scanners and than giving it to a man (who had a jacket on but underneath was a red shirt) and he was dropping the items off into the cart. So I am guessing they were shopping while on duty. I know that some people have mentioned their Target lets their employees do this but I have never seen ours do this. I have seen employees on break doing this but they have to wear a jacket or something. The ladies were working because they were answering questions, moving stuff, resetting, replacing signs etc....I am not sure how I feel about working employees shopping on duty, at least as a manager, I definitely would frown on it. I got what I wanted and there was a ton left so I guess it doesn't hurt but seems to me they are shopping more than doing their job? Oh, these were also associates I hadn't seem before and I am there way too often... -

Ok, I am happy just back from shopping etc, started at 8 this morning and the kids (11 and 12) wanted to go, we were going to see Enchanted at 11 but I told them I would come back and pick them up but they went with me and helped. We were the first there and there was about 10 people milling around when we left an hour later with a cart and half full of goodies. Paper plates, Irish spring, comforters, photo ornaments, hand towels, alot of electric timers etc (ours are shot), outdoor mat, some lights, some cute snowman glasses, large outdoor ornaments and some other goodies. Interesting, the brownies mixes etc were not coming up on sale at all so I ask and they pulled all of them. She was telling me if it looks Christmases it should be clearance but if its not, than they will move it out of the clearance items. I tried some other things that had candy canes on them (like gladware type containers) but they weren't on sale either. All and all I am happy and ended the morning with seeing the movie Enchanted! -

Ours has never changed mid day, thank god, its hard enough figuring out their schedule without wondering if mid day it might change -

I think if you take them back and tell them you bought this in the 75% off stuff, they should be able to see from your receipt, you could return them or they might go ahead and take the 75% off for you. I have done that in the past where things were missed by the computer. Usually things like partyware, etc are where it messes up. I have even seen obvious Christmas stuff missed and usually the cashier catches that and adjusts it. -

I wrote down our schedule for the last few years and we went 75% off on the 31st and 90% on the 6th? We are still 50% and think we will be 75 tomorrow but I think every store is varying but for the last few years its been 7 days in between but some may clear out earlier. -

I was thinking about this as I was driving in to Target, I think I like Targets item much better. I think in general the stuff is abit more quality, like I am looking for bowls, tableware and items such as that and I like Target's stuff better. As far as wrap and candy, really doesn't make a difference but Targets other items are a better look and quality (at least I think so) -

Oh that would of been nice to have 75% off today while we were there (around 1ish) I would much rather have gone at 6 than get up early and go in the mornings. -
Dropped by today and they had oodles of these items, funny thing is I tried to do an online pickup and it said the item I was interested in (toaster oven) was not available. There must of been 25 at the store LOL Anyway, picked them up for my brother who is stocking a new house (he thinks all he needs is a bed and sofa)

We just came back (MT) and they must of restocked too because I think there is more than before Christmas and it was still in the home section and other areas too, no condensing yet. I think its too much for 75% off, but I guess you never know. Unfortunately, I don't want to make the trip again tomorrow morning if it doesn't go. Its been on the 31st for the last three years here. -

I know what you mean about hit or miss, the year before last Christmas, I went everyday thinking it was 75% until Dec 31st when it finally went down. So I marked it on my calendar, I ask some of the associates that I knew and they said it has been the 31st each year that Target has been in our area so last year, I only went on the 31st and sure enough, it had just changed over. I too have gone when it still says 50%, so I will scan something to double check and lots of time it has gone to 75%. Ours is usually pretty good about sign changing though Last year I missed the toy clearance, one day it was 30% and the next went to 75% without stopping at 50% LOL -

Thats nice, I know there has been stuff that I buy before Christmas and don't use it, go to take it back and they only will give clearance price. I think if you bought it full price (unopened of course) you should get full price back. I don't even go in till its 75% off, so I am not tempted. Actually not really looking for anything this year but thats what I told myself last year and bought a bunch of cookie canisters in snowman theme for the winter months and set of dishes. I wouldn't mind finding some bakeware, everyday glasses in clearance but I have just learned to be pleasantly surprised at what I do find. -

Now is this seasonal type clearance (i.e. Christmas stuff) I have had no problem with just regular clearance but they were always sticklers for the christmas stuff. I haven't tried though in the last few years. It would be nice to go and get stuff at 50% and if it makes it to 75% than rebuy and return the stuff at 50%. -

Just curious, is this when you pay full price or have you tried to buy it like at 50% and return when its 75%? -

Yes, I have to stand corrected on my earlier post where I said the 1st for Christmas clearance, I just checked my schedule that I have been updating from year to year and it was the 31st last year with 90% on the 6th of Jan. -
Oh wasn't that disappointing, yes I would take it back. I have seen where Barbies have been taken out of the box and replaced with cheaper versions or non Barbies all together, wow what some people will do.
-
Wirecutters is what I use to cut the wire twist ties, who has time to undo every tie. Barbies are one of the worst, they tie them down, stitch their hair to the cardboard and than do the heat shrink plastic thing, god, where do they think these things are going in the package. LOL I also hate the new heat plastic thing where its like shrink wrapped but with the heavy plastic, how the heck are you suppose to get that off without cutting your hands up.
