  1. I am planning on getting my little brother, who is 21 and away at college, a GPS for Christmas. I know this is a refurb, but it's a good brand and quite frankly, I'm hesitant to spend a whole ton on it b/c, being away at a large school, he's already had his laptop stolen, etc etc. But, he's 3 hours from home and is consantly calling my dad saying he's lost and then my dad has to try to figure out where he is and navigate him to where he needs to go... My question on this unit is, one of the reviews says you have to pay $89 to get updated maps, yet the specs say it includes the HOME service which updates the maps ("TomTom HOME service future-proofs your ONE with map updates, software and other downloads"). So, do you really have to pay for updates? I'd rather spend a little more and get him a new one that doesn't require an $89 update if that's the case.
  2. DH has been talking about both Wii and PS3 for about a year now. He has recently decided that he likes the PS3 better. I am thinking about getting him one for Christmas....it's not really something "on his list" but I thought it would be a nice surprise. Do you think there is any indication of it coming down in price over the holidays at all, or will I be better off just looking for a really great price on a bundle? I have never bought a game system before (our DD is only 3, so she's not into anything like that...yet!) so I have no idea if they normally go on sale around holidays, or if the price is pretty much fixed all year through.
  3. Amazon.com used to carry lots and lots of the Kitchenaid mixer colors. I kept checking last year b/c I almost bought myself one around Christmas time...then my mom beat me to it :)
  4. The only thing that catches my eye in this whole ad is the 2 screen portable DVD player for $88...and that's because I want it! I already bought my mom one a couple years ago... Maybe it'll be a BF gift to myself, hee hee:)
  5. I was super excited...but with the ads that have rolled in, there is NOTHING, not one single thing, that makes me want to get up and head out shopping at 2AM. I'm SO disappointed so far! Hopefully there are good things in the ads we haven't seen yet, or this will be the first BF in a long time that I don't go out!
  6. wouldn't it figure that out of the 67,000+ kids' books they have available in the 4 for 3 deal, the books that my DD wants aren't included?? D'oh.
  7. No book in our paper today....boooo! We got the Wal Mart toy catalog in the mail yesterday and DD looked through it about 80 times yesterday and now she's looking at it again as i type! Would be nice to have the Target one just to get a change of scenery for her :)
  8. I am DYING to begin my holiday shopping!!!! I obsessively check this site every time I'm online. I can't wait for more ads, and to start making my "master plan" of stores to hit on BF!
  9. I usually buy DD3.5's clothes from Old Navy, Gap, Children's Place, Target, and H&M. Very basic things (like solid-color tshirts/long sleeved shirts, solid color knit pants/leggings etc) I sometimes pick up at Walmart - they tend to have these things cheaper than Target unless Target's having a sale on them. DD is also very tall and skinny - wearing size 5 pants at 3.5 years old - and I buy them at Target as they carry slim sizes and have held up extremely well. I only shop sale stuff at Gap and Old Navy. H&M always has very cute (and very trendy) clothing for very reasonable prices. As for winter coats and stuff, I had really good luck at Dick's Sporting Goods this year and got her a lot of Columbia outerwear (fleece jackets, winter/snow coats, pants, etc) for really cheap on their clearance racks. Also there's a really nice upscale kid's resale shop in the town I work in (a ritzy, hoity-toity town)....I shop there a lot. Got her a beautiful tan Gap corduroy coat with sherpa lining that looked like it had never been worn for $10.
  10. Thank you OP! I have been wanting the BE starter kit but was sort of turned off by the $60 price tag. Got a free sample of it from Ulta and loved it! But Ulta's coupon codes normally don't include BE. I used the ff2008 code to get the kit for just over $51 and it also put my beauty card points over 100 so I got a deluxe sample along with the "regular" 3 samples they include. I will look fab this holiday season!
  11. I don't know about this particular robe, but I got a white terry robe from Bath & Body works about 5 years ago that was like $20 with purchase. It's still in awesome shape after many washes and wears. I love my robe!
  12. I always drive on BF b/c I'm the one who drags my mom and sister out at 3AM to go shopping with me :) This is the first year I won't have an SUV though. In June I traded mine in for a Dodge Caliber b/c I got a job that's a pretty far drive away from home (60 miles one way), so I wanted good gas mileage. The hatchback trunk is nice though b/c I can pile stuff up, and my seats split 60/40 so I can fold half the back seats down and still have room for a back seat passenger as well. And, since I don't normally shop for items huge in size, I have plenty of room to stack bags. At least, I think I do!!!! I'm horrible with having patience when I drive but I try to restrain myself against honking and swearing ...but really, part of BF is waiting in lines whether it be in the store or in traffic. I usually try to park far out in the parking lots so I don't have to sit and wait to back out, etc. It's worked pretty well in the past. I'm always that one random car way out in the corner of the lot!
  13. I'm not sure how long the coupon is good for, but I had to try to place my order 3 times today before it actually went through. It would get to the checkout, then give me an error message!
  14. check out www.mden.com...it's the official U of M merchandise site. I work in Ann Arbor and was at the mall the other day and walked past MDen and they had TONS of U of M slippers in the window.
  15. Actually, I went to Target last night to do some "perimeter perusing" and found their toy aisles to be practically barren. They had NOTHING stocked up. I was surprised b/c I was expecting the opposite! But, perhaps they just haven't gotten around to it yet.
  16. Thanks...I actually found it today at a different Target here in town! I went to pick up some pics that we had taken at their studio a couple weeks ago and just for fun I walked over to the appliances and there it was! This one had both carafes, instructions, everything. I am so excited, I can't wait to make myself a latte!
  17. THe 25% off Kenmore Elite is a great deal...they have the french door fridge that my parents just bought in Feb (they paid over $2500) for $1500 advertised in that ad. Luckily, DH and I are remodeling OUR kitchen this winter, so we are planning on taking advantage of the fridge deal. They also have a stainless Kenmore OTR microwave for $179 (reg. $359) that is NOT a doorbuster, so we will probably go on Friends and Family night to pick that up too. That w/d set is a GREAT deal. We paid over 3X's that when we got our front loaders last spring.
  18. Does anyone happen to have the DCIP # off the DeLonghi Cafe Nabucco coffee/espresso machine? I ALMOST bought it today, til I really checked it out and realized it was missing several parts....the little attachment for the espresso beans, the carafe, etc. DeLonghi doesn't offer replacement parts on this machine - I checked. I didn't know you could look stuff up by the number - I thought I just was out of luck! There are 3 other Targets within 20 minutes I could go to if a local one had the machine....I guess I could run back tonight and get the # if no one has it handy...
  19. Both! Mostly for DH and DD, and anyone else if something in the ads strikes me as "So-and-so would LOVE that!" But I also scan the ads for things for myself, too. Especially household things like really nice sheet sets, etc that I normally wouldn't care to spring for.
  20. Is this coupon good on BF? I can't seem to find any fine print that says it isn't...thanks!
  21. I would definitely recommend getting an idea of what she likes before you guy a ring. There are SO many types and settings out there. What metal type does she like? I'm partial to the silver/white color but I'm allergic to nickel (which is in white gold) so my DH bought me a platinum ring which is hypoallergenic. Also figure out what diamond size you think she'd like. We all tend to think "bigger is better" but if she's really petite, has little hands, is very outdoorsy/sporty, a smaller solitaire might be a better choice, or something non-traditional like a channel-set diamond band instead of a solitaire setting. My center diamond is rather large (2ct) and is set high up off the band...which gets stuck in my hair ALL the time and really hurts!!! Also research different cuts...there are round, princess, emerald, marquis, cushion-cut, Ascher, etc. Then of course you need to set a budget, and you need to make sure the diamond you are purchasing is of the clarity and color you desire. Make sure there are no obvious inclusions, etc...I have a friend who has a huge diamond solitaire...with a big black carbon deposit right in the middle of it Make sure you are getting a quality diamond. You can buy a lesser quality 1 carat diamond for the same price that you can buy a flawless 1/4 carat diamond. So size isn't all that matters when it comes to diamond-buying. But most of all make sure it's something that is special between you and her..tailor it to what you think she would like. And...as far as sales go...I know that many chain jewelry stores (Kay, Osterman, etc) will have "holiday cash" that you get on purchases that you make at various times during the holiday season...if you bought the ring at that time, you would get X amount of dollars in holiday cash (vouchers) for every X amount you spend. These holiday dollars are usually redeemable after Christmas. If you got her the ring now, you could go back and get her a really nice pair of earrings or a gift of jewelry for mother's day, etc with the holiday cash at a later time.
  22. I am pretty disappointed in the ads so far....looks like the only stop I'll be making on BF is the mall for a couple things from Penneys and Macy's....I also know that H&m is having 25% off til noon (so I can do a little shopping for myself ) and I am hoping that Gap does 40% off in the morning like they did last year. Otherwise I think I can find everything on my list for the same or cheaper prices as the shopping season goes on. For DH I already scooped up the HD DVD player that Best Buy had for $99 the day that Walmart had theirs for $98...and nothing that DD wants is in any of the BF sale ads. She's only 2.5yrs, so she isn't into any of the real hot stuff like electronics or games (yet!). Oh well...I guess that just means I'll be home to relax with my fam earlier this year Plus if I hit the mall at 4AM I'll get a little exercise...my gym is closed on BF for "Shopping Day"!
