  1. If he is going to program games and other programs he will need a laptop that has lot of RAM, big hard drive and a good video card. What I would do is to sit back and look for the BF ads to come out. With not knowing what the stores will have I cant really tell you what is good or not just yet. If he is a big gammer I would say a desktop would be the way to go since a laptop will be limited in how much RAM and the type of video card you can put in. Also the screen refresh on the laptops are not as fast as a CRT monitor for a desktop so his games will be jerky and jumpy. GottaDeal.com (this site) has a tech message bord. You might want to ask your question there. Here is the link to the message board: http://forums.gottadeal.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16
  2. I have a question. Does anyone know here where I can buy legal copies of Bollywood/Indian films on DVD online? I know I can go into any of the Indian/South Asian stores in my area but that would require taking my girlfriend with me who is Indian and knows Hindi and what would spoil her bday/holiday gift that I want to get her. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!
  3. Last year Walmart, CC, CompUSA and the office supply stores do offer good prices but last year and the year before BB was the place to be becuase of the price point.
  4. For anyone who is not signed up for the BF email alerts are missing out. I just got my first email on my blackberry about the first ad. If anyone who is not signed up I think it is a must for any BF shopper. Thanks Brad and the admins for a great service! 5. They might. They change the ad up every year. Last year the two laptops I got was the Toshiba (around $350.00) and the Gateway (around $550.00). I know both laptops I had to add more RAM since the RAM was not much in the laptop. What is your son looking to do with the laptop? Since the ad's have not leaked to the internet it is hard to say what will be offered. Stayed tuned and welcome to the community!
  6. I love the desktop and laptop both. They are EMachine (desktop) and Gateway (laptop). Emachines were bought out by Gateway about 2 years ago and since then the Emachines have gotten much better and are built better. I have gotten emahcines for use in the house, my parents and my sister. While they are not made for heavy gamming but they are great for internet, causual and business use. I have the desktops networked in the house by a secure wireless network. The laptop I said is a Gateway and I use it very heavy for business. I also want to add that I do use GIS mapping programs on it for the type of work I am in. It is very heavy graphics and both handle it well.
  7. All of the computer I have in the house are BB BF computers and laptops.
  8. Mosel Tov!
  9. When I called 911 the call taker had me stay on the phone until the police got there. She was getting violent and getting into other people's face. When The first officer got there she calmed down but all of a sudden she changed him and by that time his back up got there so the officers back up unit shot her with a pepper ball gun and the first officer took her down with a tazer. She was arrested and hulled off. I know this year from speaking to some of my friends on the Dallas, Texas Police Dept that BB is hiring some off duty officers to keep the lines in order.
  10. That is called Intel and Recon. I do it every year. I tell people to get there on Wednesday about an hour before they close and walk around and look until they close and kick you out.
  11. I am Jewish and been doing BF for about 4 years now. Dont feel guilty. Join in the fun! BF is a family thing at our house and we have Jews, Christians and Hindu's in our family. We even had a HinJew wedding over the summer for my cousin since he married a Indian female. Remember.....You have 8 days to shop for!!!!
  12. You need to get there around 7pm the night before to get a chance of getting one last year. I know some of us got there around 11pm the night before and they were ok.
  13. You are welcome and welcome to the community. I will add that the stores that do the tickets pass them out to the first so many in line about an hour before the store opens so thus means you will have to campout and get there early.
  14. Most of the electronic stores hand out tickets like Best Buy. They do the tickets for the doorbuster items/limited quantity. Below is a link to a ticket from last year at Best Buy. http://forums.gottadeal.com/showthread.php?t=49435
  15. Here is the link where you can order the wishbook and other publications that Sears has. https://www.sears.com/sr/framework/home.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0392677947.1160675746@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccijaddjdhmlghjcefecemldffidfno.0&targetPage=%2fmisc%2fsears%2fspecialty%2fordercat.jsp&vertical=SEARS
  16. Wal Mart and it was on 10/19 http://forums.gottadeal.com/showthread.php?t=50449
  17. Last year in Dallas, Texas the day time temp on Thanksgiving Day was around 60F and the night time temp was around 40F with wind.
  18. Brad....Is there a place on here or a way to post a list of the dates that the ads came out last year? I think it would be neat to see. I know alot of people ask about the dates. Keep up the great work!
  19. The only rebate I ran into last year at BB was the rebate for Norton Systemworks. For that you had to mail in proof of an older copy of Norton or another anti-virus system.
  20. I dont think the price matching (PM) is a real good idea on BF and I would not recommend it. Most of the stores over the past few years offered doorbuster items that were not part of there regular stock and have different SKUs. For example Best Buy might go to Gateway and special order emachines that is not offered in there regular stock. Also alot of the stores will close there customer service desk until 11am or Noon that day so they can free up store workers and use the customer service desk as check out lines. I know Best Buy did this company wide last year. I would recommend not doing PM but this is my own opinion about this subject and you are free to do as you please.
  21. Welcome the the forum! Gottadeal will be your best friend this year and after BF stick around becuase there is alot of action year around on deals that are posted in the other topics. Last year I was new here and on my 4th BF. I discovered this site on a CNN story. I quicky found that this site is the best in the world hands down. Below are some of my tips that I have been using over the years. Enjoy! Big Jim Slade's BF Tips 1 - Think - Think about what you want this year. It is a TV? Computer? Laptop? Will this be for yourself? or family? Make a list. 2 - Take a Walk Thru Memory Lane - Once you kinda know what you want to get on BF take a walk thru the archives from years past. This will give you an idea of what happened last year and the year before. 3 - Research - Use the site to do all of your research. Brad has broken down the stores and put them in there own catagory. This will be useful for when you know which stores you will want to hit. There are alot of great tips posted in the stores catagories about how the stores deal with BF. The main discussion is very useful and so is the sections where they will post the ads when this site gets them. Also become active in the site. Users makes this site what it is. The best! 4 - The Ads - When the ads are leaked they are put into PDF files and save them to your computer. This way you will have them and you can look at them over and over. The site does not know when the ads will hit the net so at the front of the site you can sign up for an email alert. Be in the know! 5 - Supplies - Start to stock up on supplies that you will need to make your BF camping as comfy as you can. At walmart you can pick up tents, camping chairs, long johns and hand warmers. 6 - Recon/Intel - On the night before Thanksgiving (Wednesday) go to the store you want it hit first. Get there about a HOUR before they close. Look around the store and take note of what the store workers are doing and where they are placing things. Alot of times most of the stores will start to set up for BF an hour before the store closes. They want to send there workers home for Thanksgiving. Also by doing the recon you might get to see how many of the DB items they might have and this will tell you what time to start camping. For example if the BB ad says they will have 20 desktops look around to see if they have the boxes for the desktops stacked in a corner and if they do count them. I would stay in the store until they close and as you are leaving keep looking around and making notes. 7 - Trust but Verify - Alot of the ads last year that were leaked came to be true. You have to remember also that a store will print many versions of one ad for each market they do business in. For example the Dallas/Fort Worth BB ad might be different from the Los Angeles ad. They might differ in items offered and or prices. The best way to verify is to logon to the stores site between 12 Midnight and 3am local time. By that time there sites would have gone into BF mode and they would have posted the ad and other specials. Last year alot of us crashed the BB website and servers by hitting the website all at once. Also you might want to head down to your local 24 hour gas station to see if they have gotten the newspaper. The person who delivers the newspaper at your house and the people who delivers the newspaper at store, newsstands and gas stations are two different people. After you have verified come on here and post your findings. 8 -After BF - After BF come back here and report your findings and even post pictures. Also stick around year around as there are alot of us who do and get great deals year around. I know this might sound like alot but I have been doing this for 4 years and many other have been doing something like what I do and they have had great success. I hope this helps.
  22. Best Buy and other stores are using a database now to track people who do alot of returns with out a sales ticket. I had to go to the service manager for him to approve the return. It was hard and not easy.
  23. Thank-you so much! I love the look and the logo!
