  1. I would just buy a new one. I'm still torn if I want to upgrade this BF, just waiting for the Fry's ad. I only need a new motherboard, memory and CPU. And maaaaaaaaybe a video card.
  2. Super lucky. Most BB's I've been to put up a sign starting Monday of that week that the customer service desk will be closed on Black Friday.
  3. Way back in the day, I worked at Fry's Electronics (employee discount was cost +10%) and Circuit City (employee discount was cost.) Here is where you will get the biggest discounts: 1. Cabling, i.e. Monster Cable, since they sell them at like 1000% markup. 2. Furniture. That tv stand that costs you 75 bucks? It cost the store 25. Gaming systems - there really won't be that much of a discount, including Wii, Xbox, DS, etc. Computers - sold nearly at cost. DVD's - regular price, you may be able to get a dollar off. The better deal is ALWAYS to buy them on sale. Video Games - never purchased a video game, so I'm not sure what the cost is. Can't be that much of a markup, I think. 5 bucks at most. Digital Cameras - not much wiggle room. Higher end, you can probably get 50-100 off. But I don't think the markup is that much on them - too much competition. TV's - now this is where it gets interesting. When I worked at CC, I had purchased my parents one of those large 50"+ projection TVs, as this was before LCD's were big and plasma was still ridiculously expensive. The TV was about half off. We also purchased a Sony Wega TV, and it was nearly half off. The thing is that margins on TV's have changed so much, I'm not sure where the price point is. However, I would assume it's at least 25% of the MSRP, and probably closer to 30-35%. Even if a TV is advertised as "take 500 dollars off!" the store will still make at least 100 bucks, and they want you to get the warranty plan on top of that. (ask if you can buy the warranty at employee cost also, because that is SO much cheaper.) When I worked at CC, I also purchased a video camera. MSRP was like 699, and I got it for around 450.00. Regular old Canon Mini DV camera. Just note obviously the name brands, you will have bigger discounts. Westinghouse probably won't seem like it is as much, along with Dynex. Actually, another good deal would be on appliances... if you needed a new fridge or a washing machine.
  4. The Fry brothers I think used to own the grocery stores, and then they spun them off. Fry's is a store where you can buy everything - from the tiniest battery to porn to Doritos. Everything any geek needs. Thankfully, the Fry's up here finally switched over to the red light/green light system of calling customers instead of the paddles. I hated the paddles. It's amazing that 60 registers can be open and the line will still snake through the store. And I usually go the "big daddy" of the Fry's in the SF Bay Area. Still, I got a case for 4.99 AR one BF. It still works great.
  5. The problem with Frys is: 1. Their ad is VERY regional. What we get for Indiana might not be the same for California. Heck, I would look up the Northern California and Southern California ads and there would be different pricing. 2. It is very rarely, if ever released early. We might get it a day early at most. Fry's doesn't have a national base, so they print their ads in local newspapers, on the back of say, the business section or a separate 8 page ad on Friday. I absolutely, positively love Fry's though. They have great deals literally year round. Black Friday is absolutely INSANE there, all day and into the next day. The best days are when they'd have 25 cent hot dogs and cokes (which I think are now 50 cents, sigh) and 99 cent six packs of Coca-Cola. Man those were the days. Not that I'm biased... I worked there after I turned 18 and until I went off to college. Their discount was great (the Circuit City one was better though...)
  6. I'm in the chat right now, bitching about AT&T and their services if anyone is interested, while trying to find alternatives. And I'm not ignoring you, I'm just not working and trying to contact a million other people.
  7. Darn, I guess I can't go in and get... something that had a big lot.
  8. AAA is worth it. Here in CA, I love it. - Guidebooks and free maps (good if you're on a long road trip) - Free towing/battery jumps (depending on level of membership. worth it even if it's not your car in trouble!) - Notary Services - Passport picture services - The absolute best part: DMV services without having to go to DMV. I've paid my registration and received my stickers on the spot. We've changed the liability on vehicles we've sold. I'll be going there to update my license with my new name. The wait is nowhere near DMV insanity, and without a DMV employee.
  9. We are currently discussing this topic in the thread below, just a few posts down from this one: http://forums.gottadeal.com/showthread.php?t=120968 Please continue discussion in the original thread. Thanks! To everyone: Please search before posting a new topic to see if we haven't already covered it or have a thread similar to it going. All reposts are closed or merged into existing threads. the GD t-shirts come in only one size for now, as we ordered just generic sizes for giveaways.
  10. What is your price range? What Canon do you have right now?

    Desktop PC's

It really really really depends on your community. Some aren't so into lining up for hours, so they have a shorter wait time. But if you want a cheap desktop, you really do need to get there by 7pm and even then, you might be out of luck. If you want a desktop no matter what, then you can try Office Depot/Staples since their waits are almost always shorter. You can try speaking to a manager or someone who was there the previous year for the BF at that Best Buy and see if they know what time the line started.
  12. We're already having this discussion in the Black Friday forums: http://forums.gottadeal.com/showthread.php?t=119436 Please continue the discussion there. Thanks! Thread closed.
  13. Printer deals are around all year long. If you look hard enough, you may be able to get it for free or close to free. They are not concerned with losing money on the printer - they want you to pay for ink, the true money maker.
  14. I'm going to close this for now. Most coupons will be posted in the Store Specific section, since you can't really use a general BF coupon for all BF everything! Although, it'd be awesome. "i have a 10% off coupon... off of everything today."
  15. i updated through post 270 on the map, and then it started acting screwy. I'll add the remainder in the coming days.
  16. I thought it was so that if anyone tried to steal the display, they wouldn't be able to use it.
  17. SOMETIMES Best Buy will run a 10% off coupon on DSLR's. The last one I got though was 10% off the camera and a lens, which would seriously negate any savings.
  18. I always paid my BB Credit Card online. I always went to the website and authorized the payment and never had a problem.
  19. Ze map is up to date through today. Please only reply ONCE to this thread - I found a few duplicates. It's harder to weed out duplicates the closer we get to BF, because the map will become super full. For example, there's about ... a million of you in Ohio alone, and it's getting really full and will be harder to find duplicates.
  20. Or your moving company gives you roughly 8 million boxes when you only needed 20.... I have a million brand new boxes in my living room and dining room.
  21. The closest thing may be Grocery Game, however you have to pay for that service. The best thing to do is to research the ads every week and see who has what on sale.
  22. map updated through today. sorry, took two weeks off to get married, had to go back to work, but map is up to date! http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=100530997828741861964.000454e6ad55cb51a4af0&z=3
  23. Pfft, we're not nice now.
  24. Mine said the same. Although we do buy stuff from Best Buy, our purchases have reduced quite a bit in the past couple of months.
  25. If anyone is buying anything from Best Buy, get a gift receipt. It's not rude to the recipient, because you never know if they already have the item or it's just not their thing. Way back in my day, when I worked retail and had to process returns, it SUCKED and it was EVEN WORSE if you did not have a receipt. I got into this fight at least once a week and I always stuck to my guns of "no receipt, no return" unless you KNOW you purchased by credit card and I could look it up. And then if it was outside of the dates (most of the time they would be about 2-3 months out because "they couldn't get to it")... too bad. This is also when the complaining would start, and believe me, the level of responsiveness goes down the second a customer would begin the constant complaining and threatening to bring it to the store manager... because I'm right.
