  1. the masses will still go. Perhaps they weren't trying as hard to cater to us hardcores. In any case, I'm not going to wait in line all night just to save a hundred bucks on the 32 inch westinghouse... still some good deals though, just nothing worth waiting all night in line for.
  2. aren't these the same model that was on sale a week or so ago for 615 dollars with the 12% off? I'm assuming they'd continue carrying this model after black friday.
  3. I love it... for all those vocal wal mart bashers out there you have just as many if not more silent supporters. I'm waiting on wal mart and best buy.
  4. I'd say that the differences between the brands isn't as huge when quality video is fed to the unit, say from an upconverting DVD player or a high definition feed with it's own tuner.. it's when you try to use 480i or use the unit's built in tuners or play standard definition content where the better models shine... you have to ask yourself what you will use the unit for too... personally I'd never feed any high definition television a 480i signal anyways, and don't plan on using the built in tuner as it's impractical in an apartment 50 miles from the signal source.
  5. Part of the reason I jumped on the westinghouse for 615 is that last year by 11:30 there was already about 25 people lined up outside the best buy in sioux falls, that's just way too long to try to wait in temperatures that got down to about 10 degrees F that night.. and you know how people are.. 25 at 1130 becomes 50 by open as people let their friends jump in line with them... I don't deal with best buy on black friday... I love doing black friday, I love getting up at 2 AM and doing the wal mart thing, but when people start getting there at 9 PM the night before, no thanks. :) I LOVE stores that start their black fridays at midnight and/or stay open 24 hours.
  6. lots of people don't even think of shopping until the end of november... I'm sitting tight hoping, knowing, that things get even cheaper.
  7. 32-37 inch lcd television, preferably 37 inch.
  8. Well wal mart has got large numbers of 37 inch emerson lcd hdtvs in recently and they are made by Funai... right now they are $898 in store... do you think they could drop to $799 on black friday? Can't beat that... get the warranty for $58, and you can go right to funai's website to find local authorized service centers just in case something happens. That's one reason I'm hesitant to get the westinghouse from BB.. I want a 37 inch and my senses tell me that this television is a blitz item.. (the emerson)
  9. here's some additional info I stumbled upon... 37" lcd hdtv emerson (walmart) on sale nov 1? Just wanted to share some info on this lcd set. In my area xxxxx zip there are about 5 walmart stores whom will be offering an Emerson 37" lcd hdtv set for $897.00 plus tax .This special buy will be offered in their Nov 1 ad which is usually in your local paper i think each store has received 8 sets so they will go fast...you can purchase this set at midnight on the 31st which is actually Nov 1....I have to say that this set by far the best for the money and what it offers is phenomenal....plus you have the option of buying a two year extended warranty for this set and the great thing is you don't have to buy the warranty right then they will say you have to but you don't .You have one year within the manufacturers warranty to purchase the extended warranty just present your register receipt and they will ring it up this warranty is by far the best in the industry... If you have a citibank gold or platinum mastercard and use it to pay for the purchase they have a service that doubles the warranty length provided by the manufacturer http://www.citibank.com/canada/cards/english/about_06.htm Since Emerson's warranty covers parts for 1 year and labor for 90 days you effectively get 2 years parts and 180 days warranty without walmart's extended warranty.. if the television doesn't break within 180 days, chances are it won't for years, though wal mart's extended warranty is pretty cheap I think only about $58 or so. Funai provides a list of authorized service centers on their website too.. http://www.funai-corp.com/support/asc.aspx
  10. for the same price you can get a 37 inch emerson http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5027236 avs forums seems to have good things to say about them. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=737228
  11. there is no more layaway at walmart. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/14/AR2006091401728.html
  12. I like to go and do my general shopping at wal mart on black friday from midnight to say 2AM when nobody is there. Then line up for the blitz items. :)
  13. 5 hours a day Monday through thursday, and about 15 hours a day friday through sunday. Who here thinks I'm kidding raise their hand. :)
  14. I've got no problem with somebody selling their place in line, but I do have problem with people cutting in front of me. I would have been furious. But that's what makes it fun though too :)
  15. Last year they stayed open all night, and I hope they do the same this year. It limits the mayhem because people can trickle in instead of rushing and running. Also one can shop for other items really early, around 2-3am (earlier with laptops), before anyone else is there, and get out during the madness. They didn't hide where the laptops or televisions were, they were in plain site, roped off.. so you could pull up a chair and just wait in line if you wanted. A few smaller lines right next to the products you want is better then one huge mad rush. Plus you can better control line skippers by creating road blocks with carts and such, set up chairs, and watch television, etc. :) last year on the opposite side of electronics was the line for the gameboys that were on sale... those they were throwing around to the people in line like footballs. lol I was extremely pleased with how the way they handled it last year, which is why I'm going to the same one again this year as long as there's a good LCD hdtv for sale.
  16. same here. It was only after we were in line for the laptop that the black and white flyers made their way to where we were saying the laptop was only $379.
  17. yep, mine rang up at $88 too. It's a fine television for the price, it still works perfectly well.
  18. precisely. They also have a very good 2 year service plan on high definition sets for only $58 too. That's why I shy away from ordering online. I want to have a store nearby where I can return the set if something goes wrong with it.
  19. No, in fact I think it's annoying that people use layaway to try and store items until they are on sale, or forget about the items, or whatnot. I've never used layaway personally, and can't say I've ever thought about it.
  20. the only people that came close to being like that were the ones who arrived at the last minute in wal mart, came by the area as we had to tell them the line for the laptops was "way back there" but by then those of us at the front of the line had already fenced the area off using shopping carts and made sure the line spiraled through the back of the department and it was the main isle that was blocked off. I'm a strategic planning type.. making sure to minimize fuss... this is one of the reasons we had a nice line and the clerk handed out numbered pieces of paper to us in advance... but if necessary, I'll gladly throw a punch to defend what's already in my cart, but I respect other's rights all the same.
  21. that information is provided on a need to know basis only. :)
  22. best buy, you'd have to get there by 10PM, wal mart, I'd say 2AM if it's a hot doorbuster (in a 24 hour store) In the wal mart I was at they had 40 laptops, which is more then most got... if you were there by 3:30-4:00 you would have been early enough to get one. By 5:30 the store was full and people were rampaging everywhere. The 24 hour thing is nice, it gives people a chance to line up around items they want.. of course if you go to best buy and are in front you can get rewarded with multiple doorbusters potentially.. not true at wally world.
  23. I say, no thanks. :) That's why I'm against all this stuff I hear people talking about like buying the item in advance and trying to price match on black friday, or these new best buy personalized service deals... the hardcore shoppers should love to get up early and get into the thick of things!
  24. this will be my second year. I started off my first year with a bang by getting to a 24 hour wal mart at midnight and setting up some chairs by electronics being number 3 in line for the lappy.
  25. same time as this year, about 11PM to 11:30 at wal-mart supercenter pending they have another cheap laptop.
