  1. Not really excited as Japan does not celebrate. Very few lights and decorations with the exception of the malls that have a BIG tree (mostly pink or blue though ha ha). Also happy to do the SS thing on here cause people really don't give gifts here for X-mas. Also happy I have a Santa hat to wear all of December (I fully expect weird looks from the people here). I think I am working on X-mas as well. I am more bummed over the overpriced plane tickets. I think I might just go the train station and say I want to spend 20,000 yen whats the farthest I can go round trip and just go! Unless one of my gf's here invite me home during New Years break. Highly unlikely...
  2. Apparently Japan has no idea what turkeys are. Closest thing I have seen is KFC selling a Holiday Set (for 3500 yen!) Which includes a broasted chicken. Not sure how big it is though. Then again I work Thursday so being realistic it's going to end up being McDonalds or Matsuya. Or hey like SpeedDiva said a Chinese buffet sounds good
  3. My only question is does ANY store ship overseas. I've looked but some stores shipping rules are confusing and vague.
  4. I used fake as it was a hassle with a real one and the city had goofy trash rules on when they would pick it up. Living here it will be none of the above. Ummm $150 for a small fake tree that comes up to my chest? Ummm no just no... Then again not like I have space to have a large one.
  5. Ok I looked for ANY major BF USA chain here and no BB, Target, Kohls...etc Thats a pity...
  6. Maybe I am spoiled by cheap electronics here but after browsing the BF ads I see nothing that wowed me. The only thing I would like is a few DS games and not sure which ones are on sale. Unsure if the free shipping on BF extends to Japan or not.
  7. All I know is lots of Japanese companies have stated that if the USD continues to fall they have no choice but to raise prices on imported goods to the USA. So I guess if one is a seller best to start thinking of buying now and selling later. As far as the 3DS goes quite a few local shops are only allowing legal residents or citizens to buy the 3DS when it first comes out (it comes out here about 6 weeks earlier).
  8. Nope for obvious reasons. i just wonder if the masses have the money as it seems the USA economy is still sluggish. Also I think with the weak dollar most imports are going to be higher. There is chatter here about the USA price of the 3DS being changed if the USD gets weaker.
  9. I am always traveling somewhere and am rarely around family for the holidays but my family is not in one area. If I was home I would usually donate my time serving the homeless at a shelter on X-mas.
  10. So the live webcast was not saved.... It was well over when I logged in but managed to spend 5 minutes in class talking about it. I had a very small class and only one question (translated to English) the rest were either confused or taking their question seriously and will think about it for next class. Yura - Why can't you call it Pink Friday? You would get more girls!
  11. Well don't go to any trouble on my part. Seriously!! I'll have the kids listen to the rebroadcast (and see what they understand from it) then see if they have questions? Though I might just do 5 minutes worth as they might forget what they first heard.
  12. Ah my first class is at 10am Tokyo time... and they are pre-schoolers.... Can I still have the older kids submit questions? Will the webcast be able to be saved/rebroadcast (not live) to show the kids later that day (around 4pm Tokyo time)
  13. I have 4 Japanese female co-workers and need gifts for 3 of them (already have an idea for 1 of them) One is married and age 36. Hates frogs, kinda quiet, The other is 24 and has a boyfriend, she cooks often and brings the same stuff for lunch the whole week. She also spends a lot of time on the train to and from work. She likes cute things too. The last is 26 and has a boyfriend and complains a lot and kinda reminds me of squidward. She likes 7-up and Dr. Pepper. (maybe flavored candy is an option) I need ideas!!! It can be USA stuff and I have great GDers in the exchange thread who can help me out as well.
  14. 2006 - Went to BB, the year I got the HDTV for almost nothing as they doubled the refund by accident. 2007 - Japanese gf at the time went with me and she hated it. I got up early and don't recall what I got but I do recall taking her out when she got up around 10am and took her to Target and she thought the prices were too low and was unsure of buying anything. She ended up getting a few DVDs for $3 and a hair iron for $10. She complained about the frantic behavior and rudeness of people as well. She also found it odd people would get up that early for something materialistic. *Now that I live in Japan I do see culturally why she thought this way * 2008 - went with friends to Circuit City. Got a GPS I needed for cheap. Was happy. 2009 - Did not stand in line. rolled on out of bed around 9am got a digital camera I wanted from BB, went back home and slept. 2010 - Will live vicariously through others on here..... :)
  15. It's odd I get some holiday music here in some stores. No words just music. I hear Japanese people trying to sing the words but they are not even close.... "Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Santa and a sleigh...."
  16. OMG!! Japan is OBSESSED with claw machines to the point of LARGE shops are full of them. I could use this for classroom games and the holiday party. Any other info anyone can provide about it? - Can it pick up more than candy? (folded paper) - Would anyone be willing to buy one (or have one they do not want) and ship it to Japan (if the shipping cost is low) ?? [Amazon won't ship to Japan] - Can it handle lots of small hands playing it or will it break after a few uses?
  17. 13,500 yen here in Japan. Not sure if that is a good deal or not.
  18. My Japanese kids would LOOOOOOVE this. They have lots of strange questions about BF (I mentioned BF when asked what is popular in the USA in November) What time is it (doubtful we could watch live) but could they send in questions ahead of time? Also would the webcast be saved online so the class could watch it if we are unable to watch live?
  19. I used to give scratchers as real gifts.... What's funny about it?
  20. No shocker about TRU. I worked there as a seasonal slave I mean seasonal help. They do NOT train the holiday staff and the regular employees do very little and hide out in the back and avoid the customers. They let the seasonal suckers fend for themselves and never answer the walkie talkies. I worked there one week total and quit.
  21. Sorry for the late reply. For DS I have seen red, green, yellow, faux wood paneling, pink, lime green, metallic blue, a few more I can not recall.. No they have some special Super Mario one that is red and has mario on it. Wii I have seen white, black, red and ummm I forgot as I am not into the Wii at all.
  22. I too have seen kids gets hurt in the rush and have almost ran into a kid wandering aimlessly in the store.
  23. Still yet to find a printer that works with my USA windows version. I might get one in a few weeks? I dunno... I have no Modge Podge here and unsure if the washer idea would work with the kiddies. I'll run it by them next week. The 2 litre bottle idea might work good here. I just dunno what I could put in it or have the kids put in it?
  24. I don't get why the USA does not get the colour selection they have here? And when the USA does it's like a year after the launch. Weird...
  25. I think shipping is too much to ship one to you. 360's are 11,000 yen here. They can't give them away here.
