  1. Quick question: Does your friend live in a country that uses NTSC or PAL for TV? Not sure if they sell any PAL camcorders here in the states, but you want to make sure you get a camcorder that supports a format that will work in your friend's country.
  2. An SUV drove by my Best Buy line around 3am with a guy's butt hanging out the rear passenger window. That's right! The entire line got a full moon!! There was much laughter.. just innocent fun. lol
  3. Where are these stores that don't check over returns? I've never been to one around here. I've never seen a Best Buy not check over a returned item. I did see a Wal-Mart once accept some muddy boots. I was astounded the store allowed the lady to return the mens boots (no box, no UPC, no receipt, just muddy boots). I bought a CD once at Best Buy. The only problem... when I got out to the car and opened it there was no CD inside the jewel box. I ran back into the store and luckily Best Buy let me get a new CD. They gave me a puzzeled look however. I guess it is very rare for the factory to forget to include the CD in the case. It's really hard to see through the packaging on the side of the jewel case, but I check every time now.
  4. I just tried to enter one promo code and got this message: Important Message We're sorry, but the promotional code you entered cannot be applied to this purchase. Please refer to your promotional coupon for information about item or store restrictions. Deal is dead?
  5. I have not used a VCR since fall of 2000 when I won my free TiVo from www.tivo.com (they were a very new company and anyone that wrote an essay on their website won one). I hacked it for video extraction to my PC and with a variety of software tools I can edit out commercials and burn directly to DVD without sacrificing any of the original quality. I've been doing this for years. Of course now they make it easy with TiVo-to-Go and TiVos with DVD recorders built right in.
  6. Just scan into your PC (if you have a scanner) or make photocopies of all the rebate materials. Send one rebate in with a copy of the UPC. When it is rejected call the customer service # and say the rebate fullfillment company evidently messed up. They will ask you for a copy of the UPC, form and receipt. They'll give you an address to send them to. Just make sure you make copies of everything. Toss the ball in their court. You'll get your money. I always have and I have been rebating for over 10 years (and do ALOTof it).
  7. My brothers bought my dad and stepmom a Sony digital camera for Christmas at WalMart last year. When they returned home they realized Wal-Mart sold them an empty box. Luckily they raised such a stink and were able to convince the store that they sold the box to the display model. They got a refund and went to a different Wal-Mart to buy a box that actually contained a camera. They got lucky! In this day and age I am surprised the store believed them.
  8. Yep.. exactly 5. I prefer Seagate. If they have the balls to offer a 5 year warranty with my abusive nature of torture to them (HDTV capture + transcoding + editing + everything else at once) they are allright in my book. I am constantly reading and writing to my drives. I can kill a Western Digital drive in a year this way. 3 for 3 so far!
  9. This is my Best Buy probably close to opening at 5am. It was on my local paper's website http://www.kentucky.com/images/kentucky/kentucky/13256/175723178744.jpg Our BB is all the way on the middle left in the picture. I didn't realize it was wrapping around so crazy. I was up in the front. EDIT: I wonder if the Kodak C360 I picked up will take a better night picture. :)

    Talking In Line

I was talking to a guy I remembered from the year before. We both showed up at nearly the same time both years (last year around 2am and this year at 11pm the night before). Uncanny since we don't *know* each other, but distinctly remembered each other from the prior year. I guess we have some psychic link that tells us when to meet up to jump on the doorbusters at Best Buy on Black Fridays. :)
  11. oops.. double post. Please delete this one
  12. Found this on my local paper's website of the massive line at my Best Buy. I was up in the front. I didn't realize the line was wrapping around the side like this. Best Buy is all the way on the left middle of the picture. Crazy! http://www.kentucky.com/images/kentucky/kentucky/13256/175723178744.jpg

  15. A local photographer snapped my pic carrying my eMachine PC from the service desk. He took down my name. I may be in tomorrow's paper. :)

    BB Who got the C360

I managed to get one (thank goodness for the voucher because BB wouldn't let me pick it up at the same time I was purchasing the eMachine, so I had to make a second trip back into the chaos). I just used my Best Buy bucks to purchase that 1GB SD memory online. It has a $20 rebate and free shipping today and tomorrow. It's for Christmas so I won't get to play with my Kodak until then. The guy handing out the vouchers said the camera did not include anything that would make it work. I pretended to be concerned/interested, but knew he was trying to get more money out of me. I just nodded. I don't have the camera in front of me right now, but if anything it probably needs batteries and the SD memory card since the internal memory isn't a whole lot. I think my Best Buy is king of trying to get people to buy extra stuff with the doorbusters (they also were charging $29.99 for a restore CD for the eMachines).
  17. I'm sorry that happened to you. During the Furby craze many years ago I was at Wal-Mart and a fat lady shoved me into the car battery rack by automative. My right ankle got skinned, bruised and bled a little. I should have sued. That was totally unnecessary. I got the last Furby at least, but the rest of Black Friday hurt to move around in.
  18. I agree Best Buy should hand out tickets to the first 100 people or something so when the family members and friends who lazily sat out in their nice, warm cars show up in the front of the line at opening, they are denied access into Best Buy (no ticket, get to the end of the line). An old lady probably in her 70's showed up in front of me 10 minutes before our store opened. Another girl behind me was cussing excessively about that woman jumping the line. A Best Buy employee happened to notice the old hag try to slip in. I never seen such lies fly out of an old person's mouth. The old people are the crazy ones who think the world owes it to them I guess. The lady did finally move her ass to the back of the line (well I couldn't see the back of the line, she could have slipped back in a couple dozen people back). Anyway I think Best Buy needs a better system besides vouchers.. numbers would go a HUGE way in controlling the cheating going on. I'd estimate about 30 associated friends and family were successful slipping in the front of the line just prior to the store opening.
  19. My store adhered to the 'open at 5am' thing as published in the flyer. I think a mad cry of foul play would have been called by the people at 5am expecting there to still be doorbusters. My store had like 5 copies of season 3 of the 24 DVD set. Letting people in earlier than advertised gave the early line people an unfair advantage to clean out the store of stuff like that. I didn't get the season 3 box set of 24. I can't believe our store had like only 5 copies. That sucks! It wasn't for me, but for a present for my brother, but that still sucks that there was such a limited amount of DVDs (in prior years DVD numbers never seemed to be a problem for me).
  20. Actually I do drive a truck and I had to maneuver both boxes exactly right to make them fit through the cab door. I was worried on the second run through the store that someone was going to bust my windshield to steal my eMachines clearly visible through the windows in my truck.
  21. What I didn't get 1) Short lines anywhere 2) Smart drivers in traffic 3) $10 Sears gc for first 200 people (came in the wrong door)
  22. I got to my Best Buy at 11pm and was 34th or so in line. Then about a half hour before 5am, there were like 60 people in front of me. The guy behind me was pissed because all the laptop vouchers were gone and he had waited 6 hours in the blistering teen-cold weather, just as I had. Best Buy only let 75 people in the store at a time to control the insanity inside the store. It didn't help. I had different employees negating each other on where the end of the line was. I got the eMachines PC, went out to my truck to unload and then had to get back on a line for the digital camera. The store would not let me checkout once. What brainiac decided to do it this way? So instead of a 15 minute experience, I had a 50 minute one! AND the second cash register I went through broke, so I waited about 10 minutes for it to come back up.
  23. Just don't both pay with a check with the same address on it (or go to different checkout lines if you do). Or use a credit card or.. well you get the picture

    Snow

The snow belt is missing central Kentucky so far. I hope I don't have to stand on ice tomorrow for many hours in a line.
