>>> Official Black Friday DESKTOP Discussion Thread <<<
stationchief replied to Brad's topic in 2006
If cheap is the key, then get ready for cheap. With all the new dual-core processors coming out (Core 2 Duos), expect the less powerful desktops to probably drop to as low as $100. Maybe less. -

Actually, the laptop chart wasn't me. That one was someone else and his wasn't as in-depth as my desktop chart was. I prefer to make mine more beneficial to the PC 'tekkie', comparing the specific types of processor clock/bus speeds and cache, memory type/speed/number of open slots, internal workings, etc. And yes, more outstanding charts are planned. Just patiently waiting for the first few ads with PCs in 'em. -
Arrowhead would be the best bet for hittin' Wally's Mart first then shootin' over to those shops. The WM where the wife works is where we're gonna be waitin' in line on BF. Last year we got in line for the HP laptop at about midnite and were about line person #20. Got there just before the line really got insanely long. This year I'm takin' no chances.

Just glanced at their websites. Looks like there's Anchor Blue and Aeropostale shops in most of the malls around town, including Metrocenter by us. Never really noticed it there before. Maybe because I get all my clothes from Wal-Mart.

One of the benefits of signing up for a subscription to the local paper just before BF. Not having to get up super early to get a paper. Learned my lesson last year when I tried to get a paper at my usual time. Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY was out of papers everywhere in town. Tried numerous grocery stores and a dozen Circle Ks. Good thing I had a printer and the ads downloaded from GottaDeal.

Sound interesting. Excuse my ignorance, but can 'ya be a lil' more specific as to exactly what that is? Sounds like an electronic tool from Ace Hardware or something.

Well, if she's seven months preggy now then she'll be just about ready to pop by the time BF comes along. I'd convince her otherwise. The front of the BF line at Wal-Mart isn't gonna be the place where she'll wanna have her baby. On the other hand, she might end up making the evening news if she does. The kid's nickname could be "Black Friday". ::AHEM:: ... umm... sorry.

Gameboy DS, is this a good deal?
stationchief replied to flea's topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion
The Gameboy DS will definately be cheaper on BF, but it all depends if you're willing to take the risk of the stock selling out. It's gonna be a hot item. Whether that's a good deal now, it depends on exactly what'cha got. What are the two games? -
First off, welcome to the valley of the sun my fellow Maricopian and welcome to the GottaDeal family! Far as malls, there's several spread around different parts of Phoenix and neighboring cities. I live pretty close to Metrocenter in the northern part of Phoenix myself. We have a Wal-Mrt where the wife works at plus both Best Buy and Fry's Electronics nearby. And for Anchor Blue and Aeropostale, that's the first I've ever heard of those. Maybe look up their website and see if they have something like a store locator.

Thanx for the kind words, all. Just waitin' for the info on the laptops/desktops to start rollin' in for BF. -
You also forgot band-aids. Just in case that dive for the last laptop turns out ugly.
-
Laptops, of course. This year, with the soon-to-be release of Windows Vista and all the hype about laptops being Vista-compatable, I'm guessing someone's (BB, CC, CUsa, WM) gonna get rid of a stock of their less compatable laptops and offer one for $300 or less. No rebates.

Been watching and hearing about it ever since I knew wife's family, who takes part in the aftermath shopping every year. They've hardly ever braved the line waiting and the initial onset of the madness. However, this marks my third year of BF shopping and my second year of BF lines. Think the men of the family are gonna join me this time.

Nothing from Phoenix, Arizona? Bumr.

Do you buy BF deals before you know who you are going to give them to?
stationchief replied to rogue1230's topic in 2006
This year we plan on hittin' Wal-Mart's $3-4 DVD bin. Grab a few dozen and sort 'em out as presents for christmas. -
I really don't feel that guilty. I worked hard for my laptop last year, just like the people before me in line worked hard for theirs. I might feel guilty if I took advantage of the deals, like buying the last 5 laptops to sell on eBay when they forget to set a limit per person and the lady with kid behind me doesn't get one. Or if I 'accidentally' hurt someone, like if I had to dive for the last item and ended up knocking someone over whose reflexes are a tad slower tham mine. I'm a very moral, God fearing person. I wouldn't do any of that stoff. I'll do what I gotta do to get an unbelievable deal, but I won't do it to someone else. You shouldn't feel guilty for gettin' those deals. All depends if 'ya should for what you did to get it.

The WM Supercenters are open 24 hours a day, so they might be easier to wait in line at. At least you have a large selection, like just in case the line at one WM is too big you can go to another one with a shorter line.
-
Some people have already cancelled. If you signed up last BF it should be about time to cancel anyways. Just call AOL and they should be able to verify your information.
-
Well, technically it's price of item - 10% - 10% + tax of original price. For example: $100 (original price) - 10% (employee discount) = $90 $90 (after emp discount) - 10% (coupon discount) = $81 (new price) $81 + $8.50 (approx. tax on original $100) = $89.50 (total cost) So, if the item costs $100, then using the additional 10% off coupon it'll cost us $89.50.
-
Just thought I'd brag that this year accordin' to the wife's boss, she's still getting her christmas coupon this year for an additional 10% off her 10% off employee discount, and it's gonna be on her paycheck the week before BF. That's 20% off that new Wal-Mart BF laptop. Yipee!

Think more stores will start opening at 12:01 AM Friday morning this year?
stationchief replied to Mursilis's topic in 2006
That report from CNN mentions the mall store chains, but not much is mentioned about the major department and electronic stores (WM, KM, Target, CompUSA, BB, CC, etc). Even though, I'm thinkin' with the success of CompUSA last year more stores are gonna try it this year. It'd make it alot easier to shop at multiple stores. You wait in line at the store opening at midnite, knab the doorbuster goodies, then run to the 'other' store's line for opening at 6am. And I never really planned on sleepin' that day, either. -
My wife works for Wally World (Wal-Mart), but doesn't really get many favors from regulars. Far as the BF ads, not even the employees get the ads early. The disctrict managers get 'em, I think, to prepare for BF (Blitz Day). Might try to sneak a peek and spy a few snapshots off with the 'ol camera phone.

Which Cd/Dvd's are you hoping to be on sale on Black Friday?
stationchief replied to krstee's topic in 2006
It's a longshot, but I'm kinda hopin' to see the MASH season box sets on sale. My wife has the first three seasons and all the rest she needs would be great for christmas. The nieces/nephews are gettin' disney DVDs. As for myself, I'd like the Battlestar Galactica original series set. Maybe Indiana Jones and Back To The Future trilogy box sets. -
The "Before The Ads Arrive" BF Sales Rumor Thread
stationchief replied to stationchief's topic in 2006
I'm rather interested in that $399 BB Toshiba laptop rumor myself. Not just the fact that I'm interested in a new laptop after I sell my WM laptop from last year to my aunt. I'd just like to see what they do with the prices of lower-end laptops this year. My theory is that prices of the less powerful laptops are gonna drop like a rock so they can make room for the so called Vista-ready laptops with 64-bit and dual-core processors. -
The "Before The Ads Arrive" BF Sales Rumor Thread
stationchief replied to stationchief's topic in 2006
That portable DVD player for $39.99 and a Toshiba laptop for $399.99, both without any rebates, are the hot rumors goin' around right now. No one's bene able to confirm or deny anything yet. G'luck with tryin' to get a confirmation.
