Don't be. It's just a little overwhelming. Basically, what those specs are saying is that the graphics that it comes shipped with is not a physical graphics card, but what's called 'onboard graphics', in this case a GeForce 6150 LE graphics chip on the motherboard that takes a selectable amount from 32, 64, or 128MB of the 1 GB of system memory instead of using it's own physical memory. There is an open PCI Express x16 slot for a physical graphics card to replace the onboard graphics with. Actually, the 6150 LE should be sufficient to play most games , but for the die-hard gamer that wants to tweak the graphics to the max I'd strongly suggest getting a separate graphics card with an absolute minimum of 256MB graphics memory and is DirectX 9 compatable. Let's look. For example, Battlefield 2142 requires "minimum 128 MB video card supporting 1.4 shaders (ATI Radeon 8500 / NVIDIA FX 5700 or above), DirectX Compliant". This computer we're discussing meets that requirement as-is, since NVidia's Geforce 6150 is better than the NVidia FX 5700 (note the higher number), so it's fine to play. However, you'd have to set the game to it's minimal graphics rendering settings without getting a PCI-E gaphics card. To play the game with better color, higher screen resolution, and faster frame rate that'll satisfy a die hard gamer, you'll definately need a separate PCI-E graphics card. -
Any place have a free computer this year? Who has the best deal?
stationchief replied to mistyinca's topic in 2006
I think what mistyinca was talkin' about was the Circuit City AOL deal from last year. Sign up for AOL for 12 months (most people signed for the 'Bring Your Own' deal at $14.95/month) and get $250 instant spending cash for CC when they had a desktop for $249.99 or something. I seriously doubt anyone's gonna do what AOL did all over again this year. Maybe unless they put out somee major fine print, but I really doubt anyone would risk it. -

Ladies and germs , without further ado, I give you ... the BF 2006 Desktop Chart! Lemme know what y'all think of the format for all the information. I'm tryin' to squeeze everything so it all fits on your screens. So 'ya know, anything left blank equals unknown information or info I couldn't find. Usually I get the detailed info from the manufacturer's website, but certain info sometimes isn't available. So far the chart only has the computer from the OfficeMax ad, but soon as more ads show up I'll update (I'll do my best to update it ASAP) and post here. I've also asked Brad to put up a link at the front of the thread so everyone has access to it. Enjoy! -
Most items in the t hanksgiving ad shold be available online. However, far as the limited supply blitz/doorbuster items and the timed items (available 5-11am and so on), those won't be. Just everything else in the ad. You can still find somedecent deals, just not the most cheapest and popular ones. And thank you, spcpatt148, for serving with our armed forces. I can understand just how these upcoming months can be very difficult for both you and the wife/family. :)

Yup. That's the point of uploading a movie onto the thing. You can watch movies anywhere.
-
Would you consider using one of these? We are....seriously!!
stationchief replied to H_Hancock's topic in 2006
'Ya might attract a line just to use that thing. They do seem a lil' pricy, though, unless you plan on using it for more than just on BF. -

Maybe, but it's soo much easier than typing things in completely. When referring to gaming, WoW means "World of Warcraft". It's an MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) that's incredibly popular and gets other games modified off of it a lot. -
A starving person will be much more able to bust through lines and dive for their wanted items. It's a scientific fact. Eat/drink afterwards.

MP4, a.k.a. MPEG-4, is dvd-quality audio/video file format, like the way that MP3 is CD-quality audio. An MP4 player is basically an iPod that plays MPEG-4 videos and movies. Pretty neat how it works the same way when you buy a song from iTunes: You buy a movie while connected online and it downloads to your iPod/MP4 player. Don't actually have anything like that (yet) but it's pretty kewl stuff.

Does Best Buy match online prices
stationchief replied to Gloey's topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion
Are 'ya sue it's the exact same TV, same model number and everything? If so, let 'em know about it. And even if they don't price match their online prices just order it online for in-store pickup. -
BF anxiety? It's 3:30 in the morning and I'm checking the GottaDeal forums! What makes you think I've got BF anxiety?!

It's definately possible. Especially for abot $500 without a monitor. You're probably not gonna be gettin' a fancy dual-core processor, but perhaps a single core, 64-bit one which is good for gaming. Most likely you'll have to upgrade the video card as just about any desktop comes pre-equiped with integrated video nowdays. Just make sure it has an open PCI-Express slot. How exactly did 'ya get accepted into WOW beta testing? -
Name: Frank, or just call me The Station Chief (from Star Trek: DS9, just so ya know) Location: Pheonix, Arizona, USA, Earth. People going with you: Me and the wife. How long have you been shopping on BF: This marks about three years actually shopping. What is the one AD that you really want to see: Fry's Electronics, if it ever gets leaked. But I'll proably be happy with Wal-Mart. What was that one item you sooo wanted to get, but couldn't get it on BF: Computer a few BF's ago. That's what really got me goin' on BF. Cheapest thing you ever bought on BF: Recess bar, $0.25. Not including snacks, then DVDs at WM for about $3 each. Did you ever get anything for free on BF: Not really. Technically, 'ya gotta pay for it someway even if 'ya don't pay for it right now. Gonna use Best Buy Bucks to get stuff for free, but I paid for the postage on those earlier.

What do you do to kill time waiting in line?
stationchief replied to momof5plus1hubby's topic in 2006
I might sit and stare at the ads, but mostly we bring our laptop to watch DVDs and play videogames. We'll be in front of the line, so there's no problem with pluggin' it in. -
I usually don't. But the wife is a whole different story. I have to put her on a christmas shopping allowance or else she'll buy anything and everything for each and every single member of the family tree, all the way to the pets.

This about the one in the current OfficeMax ad or the one in the BF ad just released? And what Intel version are 'ya talkin' about? -
1) "Got ads?" 2) front - "If you can read this, you're buying my laptop!" back - "If you can read this, I'm buying your laptop!" 3) A t-shirt that looks like a giant pile of ads.
-
Don't forget to post where you're gonna be at, too.

Just for a lil' fun, go to weather.com or your favorite forecast site and tell us how cold it's expected to be on BF, that's the evening low for 11/23, in your neckuvda woods. I'll start with my town of toasty Phoenix, Arizona. Expeted average low: 48°F (Oh, no! Gonna freeze my patootie off! )
-
weather.com is a good place to bookmark for weather reports from just about anywhere. They even give month-long reports. The expected averages for Racine, WI on BF: Hi - 42°F Lo - 29°F (bundle up!) It's 23° degrees over there tonite? It's an icy 65° over here in Phoenix.
-
Speaking of toy coupons to use on BF: New Toys 'R Us Coupon Looks like there are some out there after all. Just gotta take a look around.
-
You can say that again. In fact, you just did. Gotta watch that submit button. Again, there aren't many coupons out anymore other than for groceries. The only thing that comes to mind would be the coupons TRU possibly gives out in their ads, but I dunno. BF deals are soo good 'ya don't really need coupons anyways.

Ethical Question on pricing at WalMart
stationchief replied to SoCalCyclist's topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion
I gotta agree there. That's wrong and just borderlining illegal to consumers. Looks like it's time for a lil' phone call to corporate. -
Yup, they're having a pre-BF sale with a small handful of 'doorbuster' items to wait in line for, like that Compaq laptop for $398. Although most of the sale goodies in the ad are their everyday sales.
