  1. We cook this all the time. It is a big hit and easily made. It is still just as good the next day, too. You can add whatever meats you prefer, but we have decided we prefer just bacon. If you don't thaw the hash browns, the casserole will come out soggy. Still perfectly edible though! https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/amish-breakfast-casserole/ Amish Breakfast Ingredients1 pound sliced bacon, diced1 medium sweet onion, chopped6 large eggs, lightly beaten4 cups frozen shredded hash brown potatoes, thawed2 cups shredded cheddar cheese1-1/2 cups 4% cottage cheese1-1/4 cups shredded Swiss cheese Powered by Chicory DirectionsPreheat oven to 350°. In a large skillet, cook bacon and onion over medium heat until bacon is crisp; drain. In a large bowl, combine remaining ingredients; stir in bacon mixture. Transfer to a greased 13x9-in. baking dish.Bake, uncovered, until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean, 35-40 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before cutting. Test Kitchen tipsCreate a pretty burst of color and fresh flavor by adding a pinch of minced herbs to the egg mixture. Thyme and parsley are perfect candidates; try 1 teaspoon fresh or 1/4 teaspoon dried.Cottage cheese is surprisingly versatile and almost disappears into this dish when baked.Assemble a day in advance, and bake just before serving.Nutrition Facts 1 piece: 273 calories, 18g fat (10g saturated fat), 153mg cholesterol, 477mg sodium, 8g carbohydrate (3g sugars, 1g fiber), 18g protein. **Not sure why it won't post my pic!
  2. Delivery snafus have started already! We got in someone else's Walmart package. It had the correct address (I think) yet, delivered to me. I was kind enough to deliver it properly, but I'm not sure how many people will actually take the time to properly deliver especially if it is pretty far away or if they kinda like what you ordered. If you call the carrier back (UPS/Amazon/Post Office) do you think they will come get it from you or show up at the wrong house?
  3. Don't we usually have at least 1 ad out by now? This year is so weird! I wouldn't mind seeing SOMETHING ahead of time.
  4. I'm thinking we will have a surge in kitchen/home goods this year. Especially considering most of the country has been cooped up since March. Possibly home improvement tools, also, although I would have expected those to have been purchased March/April/May when people got bored.
  5. Shirts will be a difficult fit for this year. Most of us will be stuck at home and it isn't as likely as we will be out and about to advertise as much from our shirts. Fortunately, since I am Brad's "brotha from anotha motha", he's going to hook me up with one this year. Right Brad? Brad?... Brad? You there? Don't ignore me!
  6. I'll miss the ad planning and the rush of competing for a doorbuster. Admittedly, I did mostly online shop last year, but we did go out both Thanksgiving and BF to grab a few items, but mostly to enjoy the crowds. I'll really miss that this year.
  7. My son works for Wal-Mart. He said that they will offer weekly deals segmented out like their normal BF ads. So 1 week electronics, 2nd week clothes, etc. (Not necessarily in this order). There will be less stuff offered in the ad on BF. No, he hasn't seen the ad yet. Their goal is to move foot traffic from the stores (less in-person shopping) to online. I expect many stores to follow and I also expect this to become the "new normal" for BF.
  8. Stay safe! Prayers for those who suffered Laura's wrath! I'm curious if they will forgo the "Black Friday" name and just switch to "Cyber Week". Especially this year.
  9. Any idea what symbol will stand in for the name "Black Friday"? EDIT: I can't post the Prince symbol, either because of copyright laws or because I'm suffering from id10t syndrome. And my comment is no longer as funny.
  10. Happy August all! I guess we find out next month what kind of Black Friday we will have this year.
  11. Happy July everyone! My family is getting restless in this mess and we are wanting to travel. Unfortunately, pretty much wherever we are interested in going is effectively shut down or could be. The health risks are high, and seems to leave our choices to outdoors stuff. Any suggestions on what we can do during this mess that is indoor?
  12. We are in the middle of transitioning back into the office. 50% and we swap weeks. Next week will be my work at the office. The following week I will be at home, unless they decide we need to go 100% by then. Within a week or so of working exclusively from home, I realized that the cheapo $50 office chair wasn't cutting it. Unfortunately, it was too late to order a good chair at a reasonable price, so I commandeered my son's gaming chair, which he purchased last Black Friday. As he typically works in the evenings and stays up pretty much all night gaming, we have been sharing his chair. I get it during the day, and when he gets home from work he takes it back to his room. Recently, I found the chair I wanted actually available for $140. I sprung for it and it arrives in about 2 weeks. I'm sure I could get it for around $100 last year, but if we have another round of quarantine, I'm going to regret waiting for a "good" sale. I've been wondering recently how the quarantine and shift to work from home is going to affect Black Friday sales. Will we see deals on webcams and other stuff no one cared about until we were all quarantined at home? Will prices still be inflated on those items and the "sale" price will be what they went for before the world ended? How many people will scale back their Black Friday shopping due to unemployment during this time? Will Black Friday be scaled back to accommodate some of the losses businesses took while they were closed down? How do you think the recent events will affect YOUR Black Friday?
  13. My son currently works for WalMart. Most of the people in there recognize me, so I likely get better service because of it. That being said: I used to work in retail "back in the day". Even then, the low level managers were poor. There was no training offered, they were just thrown into the job. There was unwritten rules that you basically worked off the clock if you wanted to become a manager. If you got caught, you got in trouble. You didn't get caught, you were up for management. Every employee was expected to "earn" their way and if you wanted a pay raise, you typically did the bad jobs. If the store sales weren't up to budget, people were sent home. I never worked for WalMart. I worked for the "other". WalMart was actually a "better" retail job. I don't expect to ever work in retail again. Customer service has died. It was dying while I worked in retail, even though I was taught the same as you: Take the customer to the product or to someone who knows where it is. Ensure everyone leaves happy. Smile. Say "Yes, sir/ma'am". I was involved in a similar situation as you experienced, but gave a much better resolution. A customer had come in after requesting us hold an item for them. Someone dropped the ball and it was either damaged, or we didn't have it even though they were told we had it saved for them. When i located the item at a different store, the customer told me that my store was the third one they had been to. So I went up to the other store, got the item and brought it back with me while the customer waited in store. They were pleased I helped them out. I also got in trouble by my manager. As I worked in the trenches, I'm willing to give them somewhat of a pass. The main thing I took away is a bad job can be made tolerable with good managers. A great job can become intolerable with bad managers. I also know what I should expect with customer service, as do you, and that is deteriorating. Not all stores are bad. It depends on who manages them. Stuff rolls downhill, after all.
  14. Happy May 1! My state opens today, but we are being cautious and not going out. I do need a haircut...
  15. I'm ready for all of this to be over. Have you heard the new news reports of a possible meat shortage? I mean, why don't they just encourage people to hoard meat? I am OK with work from home, but I wouldn't mind being back in the office. Anyway, stay safe everyone!
  16. Yesterday, many school districts announced they will be shut down for another 2 weeks. DD is attending a charter school, which also announced they will shut down for 2 weeks. This is the end of Spring Break, so DD will be home for a total of 3 weeks for this year's Spring Break. Luckily, as technology has progressed, the teachers have been tasked with changing up their lesson plans to transition to online only. A cable company in the area has also volunteered to give free internet access to any family who has a child in school (K-12 or college). New accounts only, though.
  17. My in-laws are ready to fly back to their home in the Philippines. Theoretically, that is supposed to happen on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the coronavirus has thrown a wrench in our plans. They were scheduled to fly through Taipei. As of Monday, the Philippines is rejecting flights from Taipei. They will allow their citizens to fly on in, but they get quarantined for a week after landing. Any citizen of another country will get booked back home as soon as they land in Taipei. As my wife needs to help them, and they wish to avoid quarantine, we are now looking for a different international flight with less than a week to go. We are currently trying to get the original flight refunded, but that may take up to 7 days. The silver lining in this case is that we are in the off season. I'm looking at dropping "just" $3k rather than double that in a few months. Hopefully the refund goes through so those original plane tickets aren't a waste. I doubt if I could afford a Taipei vacation next year even if the flight was free!
  18. Happy February! This is the month my in laws return to the Philippines. They are very excited! I will be installing in-ceiling speakers in my living room while my wife is away. She would NOT allow me to do it if she knew. lol. She will be OK with the final product, though. Any suggestions on a receiver? What features should I look for?
  19. Happy New Year to everyone! I figured I would post now as I hope to be unable to wish this at the correct time. lol
  20. We are about half-way through wrapping presents. We still have a few more that need to be purchased. For example, several months ago, DS broke the outside door handle to his driver door. He hasn't been concerned about it as he can just roll his windows down with the remote. Rain doesn't bother him, I guess. lol I went online and found a dealership that had them for the same price as Amazon, so I ordered it, but selected "pay at dealership". I'll be visiting them tomorrow. Hopefully I don't have to wait for shipping. If so, Amazon is my fall-back plan.
  21. Happy December! DW asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I honestly don't have any wants. I purchased the 8" show and told her to give me that. lol
